It is sickening isn't it Veronica. Those poor hostages will never be the same:( Glad your son is on holidays!
Staying inside today and keeping an eye on the news, we are close enough to Lakemba to hear the activity whenever something big is going on. All is unusually and eerily quiet on the streets here at the moment.
Best to stay home Julie! I just said to hubby - if I worked in the CBD and was told I could leave my job, I'd be off! They had just announced people could go back into the Opera House...I'd be far away from there!
I'm with you Brenda. I'd be getting out of the city as soon as I could. Looks like it's going to be a long wait for the hostages.
I'm from WA and heard it on the news. I just can't believe it. I hope it gets sorted out with no injury to the hostages. Not good - not good at all.

I hope there is a good outcome sooner rather than later Faye.

The poor hostages - and their families (for those who know they have loved ones in the cafe). The uncertainty of not knowing what will happen must be petrifying!

It's impossible to comprehend how they would be feeling!

Dreadful situation. Hope it can be resolved without anyone getting hurt, more than thy have been by the whole terrifying experience.
Numbing. Stuff like this just doesn't happen in Australia. Teared up a little at the footage of that first woman running to safety. Hopefully this gets resolved soon.

Yes it was awful watching her!

I think it might be a very long night for Australia, but a much longer night for the hostages and their families.
The siege in Sydney is reportedly over. http://www.news.com.au/national/marti... Thank God. I heard none of this news yesterday (didn't watch tv) and felt sick when I read this thread at 4.45am this morning.
Yesterday will have left a huge impact on the hostages, their friends and family (especially those with loved ones killed), and on the police involved, I would imagine.

That is my big, main question Jess!!! Our justice system has a lot to answer for...

I'm not on Twitter either, but it is a nice show of solidarity.
it's worth taking a peek at twitter, just to read the #illridewithyou hashtag. It makes you proud to be Australian.

Yes there are, and they're beautiful.
Last night I was mesmerised by the rate at which the posts were piling up. There were hundreds every minute. It was an amazing outpouring of unity and encouragement.
Shocking day yesterday but glad it's all over now.-
We had very, very strange weather here...Tuns of hail as big as 10 to 20cent coins (thankfully) but the rate it was coming down looked like it could of damaged the cars...Wrecked lots of plants...Made my work place flooded on the netball court..Roofs were littered with the hail balls. I've never heard such loud hail in my life.
"Funny" thing we were all out playing baseball about 5 mins before it all hit..but by golly we heard some loud thunder claps.
Now the house has damage and we had some light flooding in the house due to the gutters being clogged..bugger :/

That is bad luck Laura. Sounds like a lot of damage in a short time. Must have been monster hail.
@Laura Around 2pm, we were hit on the southwest coast with nearly gale force winds with rain. In an hour it was over but the damage to my garden will take weeks of growing to repair:( Any weeds seem to have escaped unscathed.Good morning, Dale, I saw you were online:) And hi to all EB's.
Good morning all. Yes I was up and online but then went back to bed about 4.30 till now. Would love to be able to stay in bed all night.
