Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9996 comments @Dale,
never had to deal with HECS, lucky us!!! I do feel a big debt of gratitude to the system that gave me a free education, so I've worked and paid taxes for almost 40 years. We are likely to be self-funded retirees when we do retire. But I am looking forward to the cheap rail travel on a Seniors card!

Illy is a coffee from Italy..They have illy cafes over there...Yummy too. They sell illy beans and grounded beans in the supermarket here but it's quite expensive though.

I was very much a mature age student when I did my degree. All off campus, which for me at the time was good.

I have always been interested in University study, but cost has stopped me.

Suz | 4439 comments I picked up lots of books from my inlaws today.. Not sure what to keep and what to pass on.. Thought I'd start and see if any of my friends had read or reviewed them and go from there? I guess I'll keep all the Stephen King ones??? I don't have shelf room though. I know there are worse dilemmas so it's fine he he

Same here Dale. I did one degree in the UK which was paid by my employer and another here as a mature age student which I paid for myself. One of my children did a second degree with HECS and is still paying it off!

Oh well done! Stephen King is a great storyteller, definitely find room for those! And what a great idea to check reviews here to help you make decisions. I often wish I had the site with me when I'm bookshopping in the charity shops. When I get my tablet.....

message 14765: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments Well, after whingeing about the last GR update several weeks ago, should I now download the latest update that has appeared on my phone?? Will it fix the things that irk me about the current update?? I'm guessing there's not a chance that it will enable us to link books or reply to specific messages but I'd quite like the ability for the app to turn sideways if I turn my phone to be restored (the last update lost that)...

My opinion for what it's worth Kathryn - from what you and others have said, it can't make it worse, surely!! Go for it and cross your fingers that it will improve things:) I will also cross mine for you:) Keep us updated;)

Thanks, Brenda! The cynic in me says I'm sure it could make it worse - or at least no change!! Am going out now, might think about doing it this afternoon - in the meantime, if anyone has downloaded the latest update in the last couple of days, I'd love to hear any thoughts on it!!!

message 14769: by Neko (new)

Neko @Kathryn - I don't use an android or an apple so Windows phones get left off so many things it's not even funny :( But I do very occasionally use GR on my phone through the mobile browser and if it's anything like that then it's annoying.

Not sure, Laura - I don't use the mobile browser, nor do I use the app very often either. But I bit the bullet and downloaded the new update - and it doesn't seem much different. Still can't turn my phone around when I'm in the app - just as well I don't often type comments on my phone or I'd be driven nuts trying to type with that tiny keyboard when the phone is upright!

message 14771: by Neko (new)

Neko That's so silly you can't swivel it! Is there anywhere you can voice a complaint/suggestion?

Kathryn | 3569 comments Laura wrote: "That's so silly you can't swivel it! Is there anywhere you can voice a complaint/suggestion?"

There is a Goodreads Feedback group, but there are lots of complaints there - I suspect my complaint would get lost! Besides, although I'm whinging about it here, it's hardly life or death stuff - but I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it in the feedback thread...or maybe I've just missed it - there are quite a few comments!!

I like reading YA and thought my daughter would enjoy this one too. Alice Pung sounds like an amazing young woman.

I have won some good novels through first reads.
The Inheritance: A Novel of Suspense and Humor
Ronan's Echo
One is Come
Bound
Pegasus to Paradise
Under Fire

I thought you might have been on to something, Laura, when I realised I hadn't downloaded the latest iOS update on my phone, but no - still no rotation after updating... Besides, it stopped rotating as soon as I downloaded the GR update at the end of September. But good thought - thank you :-)

Midnights_Darling -The Emo Kittie (theemokittie) Does any of the Aussie's here wish Halloween was celebrated in Australia the way it is in American?

message 14792: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments Ah well, like I say, it's not often I'm using GR on my phone anyway, Carolyn, and that's the only time I use the app. Ironically, I am using my phone to reply at the moment as it's the nearest piece of technology and I'm too lazy to get up and get another!!

Midnights_Darling -The Emo Kittie (theemokittie) @Veronica
yeah It's just not about the lollies, It's also about the dressing up! What kid wouldn't want to dress up as one of there favourite characters?
