Was the cat a Bengal? Those a huugee but super cute.

My son is not going to be happy. I pulled his jumper out of his school bag last night to make room for some other things. Oooops.

It's only 12C atm but it's only going to be 8C over night :s And a top of 21C. Hmm...Will see how the weather is when I get to tomorrow :p

My grandson received 20 out of 30 for his poetry reading, lost a bit with his presentation, still, not bad for a 8 year old boy trying to read a soppy poem, I'm proud of him.(-:

Schools are great with kids these days. They have them up doing public speaking at a much younger age. My kids especially my son who is naturally shy and researved like I was, has been forced to get up and speak. He is now 12 and is quite confident.

I did that. I forced myself to take drama for a year because I'm kinda shy and I hated the thought of public speaking. I found in that year I learnt a lot more about myself than I thought. Yes, hard to start off with but worth the push in the long run.
He was & I am (-:
Here is the poem in question, it's a very early one before I knew about consistent metre.
Lost Love
A cold wind blows down behind my neck
It seems like yesterday we only just met
Now a lonely tear rolls down my face
Walking with my head down, at a slower pace
The sky has darkened, rain is starting to fall
My life is shattered, I feel like I’ve hit a wall
Gazing at this path as I walk, it’s so pale and gray
Not knowing what to do since you left that day
The pain, like my heart’s been run through with a knife
Should I continue, or just give up on this life
My tears flowed like a river, when they lowered the casket
To get through the coming days, can I get past it?
I miss you so much, god, only knows how it hurts
Back at our flat I try to pick up some clothes and shirts
Sitting on the bed, where our love was so wild
I’m crying again like an inconsolable child
Lying here on the bed looking into the dark
Why, why did your death, suddenly tore us apart
Going to be a long night listening to the rain
Because I know my love for you will never, never wane

Borders/Angus&Robertson: the first to fall victim to the internet
This week we heard the news that Angus & Robertson have gone into ..."
I am a publisher (we do our own distribution) and it's hardly surprising that Borders went belly up. Firstly they operated out of the US then New Zealand and they have always been elusive. Very hard to get them to take our books then they always 'lost' invoices so it was difficult to extract money from them. Did they drag the others down? Who knows? How will this affect the A & R franchise owners who may be in better financial shape than the 'parent' company?
There are excellent bookshops, independent bookshops invariably, and people go to them for an old-fashioned book-buying experience which is almost meditative and a welcome break from much of life's daily grind. Abbey's in York St. Sydney, Ariel Books at Paddington, Gleebooks in Glebe, Paperchain at Manuka ACT, the store at the new portrait gallery in the ACT is excellent - these are just a few of my favourites. I could go directly to a publishing house and get a standard industry discount but I'd rather go to a bookshop. The cost is not the driving factor. I do buy books online, specific titles usually that have a later release date in Australia. Why does this happen? Maybe so the Oz release coincides with an author tour. But it's frustrating if you've read a review and you want to buy the book. Half the time I think it's just a case of not being on the ball; the sleepy syndrome.
Most days I spend lashed to a computer so I view reading a book as a break from this so I haven't gone down the kindle track yet, but I might in the future.
I think the market will decide who survives in the book trade and the best bookshops will be here for a while, even while on-line shopping and e-books increase.

Anyone wanting to discuss this topic further is welcome to join us there!:)

Global warming? Who knows for sure. Something is definitely not well with Earth at the moment. This is terrible news.

This will sound mega gloomy..But it feels like our world is really starting to fall apart. Things just seem to be getting worse and they keep happening more and more..*sigh*

Auckland hospital is on standby waiting for the injured to be flown in apparently...

Earth is still young & growing & shifting all the time, the massive earth quake & resulting tsunami in Indonesia & the massive earth quake recently in Brazil shifted the earth on it's axis, the shifts might have only been small in measurement but quite significant in the whole sceme of things, all these I believe are attributing to the global weather patterns the world is experiencing at the moment & will continue as the earth changes, & not the global warming hype. Not saying though, as humans we can't do more to save forests & our oceans from greed.
I feel for our friends across the ditch & wish them well.

Maggie I put my two cats in the contest...we didn't get many votes....haa but did get two pouches of cat food sent to us in the mail. They only send them once. :0 But you can't complain about that. ;)

LOL>>>>>>>>> fantastic pic...looks like my two furries.

Laura, I had to join the cat club to enter my cats in the competition, it was a few months ago..winner got their pic on the new style sachets..we didn't win. They keep sending newsletters though now.

Totally agree. The phrase "reap what you sow" comes to mind.

my thoughts too!"
Add my prayers to that.

@ My thoughts and prayers to all in NZ. So lucky that lady under the table got rescued today but so sad for all those who didn't make it. The damage to the cathedral is so shocking I was there in 1973..now it looks like a bomb site. so sad.

I hope we are all well. Since this is a place to talk about anything at all. I would like to share with you all my video a dear friend did for me on Youtube. It is about my upcoming crime novel ( yet to be completed) but already is creating a buzz online and off line.
I even have people making t shirts of the front cover of my work.
I hope my book goes well as well as all of your endeavours in life.

The link above will show you my work that a dear friend in Paris made this website for me. :-D A poem I wrote also appeared in the Philadelphia news paper.
Take care everyone and thank you for your time.

I live in fascinating times.
Will say though, decided to ditch the bathtub and put in a double shower. Shower heads on opposite sides of the bathroom. It's nice to spoil yourself.

I have just been notified of a new release which sounds very interesting..I have added it to my TBR list! But Carmel, and anyone else who has read Sister by Rosamund Lupton might find it a book to read, according to some of the reviews. It's These Things Hidden by Heather Gudenkauf.

No, I haven't read that one, I hadn't heard of her before. My library hasn't got the new release, but I didn't check the first one...will have to do that. :)

Congrats to your sister, Tracey..the little newborn would be tiny at 2 months premmie. So glad she & Mum are ok.
Keep positive, keep your chin up, and know we are wishing you all the best..*hugs* :)

How lovely that your sister had her baby safely. He/she must be a tiny bundle - two months prem. But babies grow fast. Something for you to look forward to when you get out of hospital.
I'm glad you are able to do Physio now. thinking of you and hope you are soon well enough to leave hospital. Laurel
Another new release, 'Beyond Fear' by Jaye Ford and published by Doubleday, is to be released by Random House, March 2011. She's from Newcastle, NSW and it's a suspense thriller. It's not on GR yet, but I found her site http://jayefordauthor.com
She was on the news last night, talking about her book, and it sounds really good.

@Monya- Ohhh..wow..interesting about the Glucosamine! My older cat also suffers from arthritis :( He has to get injections for it. But I'll ask next vet visit as our vet is into all sorts of herbal alturnatives for animals rather than the 'norm'. Actually, I can talk to my Mum as she's pretty big into looking at herbal alternatives.
Lol! I'd believe a vet/doctor telling you that. Gosh, I've put many different things on my cats when they've ended up in fights that we use ourselves for human scratches/bruises/etc. Just make sure its in a lower doseage and maybe slightly diluted. But never has it caused a problem yet.
