Chat about whatever you like: the weather, good stuff, bad stuff, family or pets!
Good morning Julie, Marianne and Vicki aka The Early Birds:)Friday must have been D for Dentist day; I made an appointment for a filling and a clean. Might be taking the step of getting veneers soon; ouch, that will hurt my hip pocket:P

Elaine, #are you lonesome tonight...# Actually, we missed his anniversary; 37 years without the King on August 16th:(
@Marianne, where do you work that you have to start so early? Are you a nurse or something (if you don't mind me asking)?
Bette BookAddict wrote: "@Marianne, where do you work that you have to start so early? Are you a nurse or something (if you don't mind me asking)?"Pharmacist at the hospital, start at 8, but I like to get a decent walk in before I go to work. I only work 5 days a fortnight, so on the days I'm not working, I have time to break occasionally & chat here
Bette BookAddict wrote: "Hi, Leonie and Julie. Marianne must have decided to 'road walk' today instead of her treadmill. She's probably close to Sydney by now!"before I had the treadmill, I used to walk to Scarborough. Of course, part of the time, it was too dark to read, and in some weathers it was downright unpleasant, so with that regard, the treadmill is much better.
@Marianne, 5 days a fortnight; sounds like a step before the wonderful R word! Treadmills do come in handy when there is inclement weather. Down here, October is our very windy (gale force) season so a treadie would be handy. Trying to get Moses on it would pose a problem though:P
Good morning, Bette and the EBs. I haven't been a reliable member of late. I've been sleeping better, which means I'm not prowling the house in the wee small hours as often. Don't cross my name off yet, though. :)Have a fab weekend, GRers!
@Vicki, it would be more appropriate maybe to award you a gold star for not being up in the wee small hours. I am jealous of your extra z's.
@ Bette. I'd love to retire!!! Soon be 60, maybe sometime after that..... you need a treadmill for 2
Vicki wrote: "Good morning, Bette and the EBs. I haven't been a reliable member of late. I've been sleeping better, which means I'm not prowling the house in the wee small hours as often. Don't cross my name off..."Sleeping better is a very valid excuse for not being an EB

My big dream is to go to Parkes for the Elvis weekend. I'll make it one day.
Morning to all on Goodreads. The netball season has finished now so no early Saturdays for me anymore. The girls are bored now so we will be hitting the shops later

I'd love to do that too Veronica! Would be an amazing weekend! I hope you get to go there soon :)
Michael wrote: "I bet they were Liam. 4th spot is now up for grabs again. Will make next week very interesting. :D"We get a home final either way, I'm pumped!

Only 40 pages to go and my book went flat!!! :(now that wouldn't happen with a real book....will have to finish it later tonight.
I'm quite liking it.

Me too Veronica. That would be awesome. There's also the Blue Mountains Elvis festival that happens in Katoomba in August. I think the Parkes one takes place in January.
I just came back from seeing The Hundred-Foot Journey at the cinema. It was very much a feel good movie. Very sweet and funny. Definitely worth going to see!
Have just arrived home from Sydney. Did a quick trip down and back to see the youngest perform in the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Symphony Orchestra. It was a lovely program.Rained on and off all the way home though, which makes driving a bit tiring. It was just over 500km for the round trip.

Wow, that's devotion Leonie! Sounds like it was worthwhile. What instrument does your youngest play?

Glad you're home safely Leonie! It is tiring when it's raining - a more indepth concentration needed! Glad you enjoyed his performance again:)

He's a percussionist, Carolyn - has many types of sticks to hit things with :) Today he was playing a huge gong, a guiro, a tom, a shaker and a massive bass drum. That's the thing with percussionists - they play way too many things - and nearly all of them are quite noisy!
I have become rather fond of the marimba and the rumbling tones of the bass drum though.
My nephew plays a saxophone - he plays for the Newcastle orchestra and has also been in the NSW junior orchestra and competed overseas. I would love to go and see him perform one day. Love drumming - especially those huge Japanese drums which are bigger than their players!

I love the marimba too, it has such lovely tones.

It's well worth doing, Sally, and even more fun if there's someone you know in the orchestra.
I really enjoy listening to orchestras of all kinds. The con's a good place to go - you get a quality concert for $20. It's worth having a look at their program of performances if you're in Sydney and looking for something to do :)
Michael wrote: "Glad you had a good night Elaine. Just got back from the footy and woohoo what a game by Port. Won by 103 points. Not much of a spectacle but loved every minute of it. :D"Yessssss! Enjoyed every minute of it! They played beautifully and the crowd was incredible. That chant at the end was one of the loudest things Ive heard :D

Ugh I went to the Sydney game with a friend whos a diehard crows supporter. Should have taken him to this one :)
off to book club today, lunch at a friend's in Westmead. we just chat about the books we've read, gossip about everything else and eat nice food: one version of heaven!

Good morning, EBs and Liam (who is/was up extra early -- or maybe that's late). Another week begins...
Howdy, Bette. Fingers crossed it's only a blip. I've been feeling much better for the extra zzzzz.I hope all is well in your world. Wish I could bottle some of those extra zzz's for you.

@ Brenda, Sally & Julie, Thanks, we had a lovely day!
Morning, EB's. Stars out here, no green nearby on the radar, maybe I'll get to walk to the beach today. Maybe there will be a book-shaped parcel at the PO on the way back....

Good Morning EB's, quite wet here this morning. We were woken at 4.40 am by the recycle man trying to navigate his huge truck in the dark, around our very small avenue before anyone had left for work..so lots of cars and bins everywhere and of course he got stuck turning!!! So it was BeepBeepBeepBeepBeepBeepBeep stall, then more BeepBeeps for15minutes. I think he managed a 16 point turn poor feller, and one by one all the house lights were coming on as people woke! Not happy Jan!!

We were sitting right behind the northern goals, amongst the Carlton cheer squad. Incredibly quiet down there :P
