Yes, I have those for when I go out for a walk, they are great!
Michael wrote: "Don't the top of your fingers get cold?"Well, a little bit, but these are the sacrifices one makes for being able to read. You have to get your priorities right!!! By the end of my walk, I've warmed up completely.
Michael wrote: "Just finished watching on ABC 1 a facinating show called Google and The World Brain. It details Google's attempt to digitize every book on the planet under the name Google Books including public do..."Certainly, a topic which is ope to discussion on both sides, Michael.
Got back last night from four beautifully sunny warm days in Lennox Head/Byron Bay. The girls were wearing shorts! No internet so I'm just now catching up on lots of emails and Goodreads chat that I missed. No time to read there though as my 84 year old M-I-L is always on the go. Puts me to shame! Back home in Sydney now, the heaters on and I can sit and relax with a good book :)

Sounds like a great break Veronica! A shock to the system when you get home again isn't it!

It sure is. When we were there I was thinking "surely it wasn't that much colder in Sydney", but when I woke up this morning I was freezing and headed straight for the heater.
Good Morning early birds?! A nippy 5C in Sydney this morning, I expect that to get a bit cooler as the sun rises....looks like a beautiful sunrise in the making too :)
Vicki wrote: "Good morning, Julie. Not that cold here, but it is raining."Good Morning Vicki, oh I wish we could have some of that rain...I know, I know, but we really need it! our poor gardens are so confused!
Vicki wrote: "Swap you your sun for our rain, Julie. :)"Not a problem for me Vicki, Im one of those weirdo's that love the rain...I actually miss it when it's away so long! :)
Well here in Newcastle we have our first minus in a very long time..years in fact! -1 right now :( Brrr! Not looking forward to our electricity bill!
Brenda wrote: "Well here in Newcastle we have our first minus in a very long time..years in fact! -1 right now :( Brrr! Not looking forward to our electricity bill!"I find it hard to be an 'eco-warrior' during Winter. I am not sure Al Gore would like my energy bill either Brenda!
At present I don't care about the bills so much so long as I am warm. Still prefer cold to summer though.
I find it easier to be an "eco-warrior" in winter than summer! I can cope without too much heating in winter (disclosure: I live in Brisbane so 4 - 5 deg is generally about our limit) but use more energy in summer with fans and air-conditioning. But I agree for places colder than Brisbane heating is mandatory!! I lived in rural NSW for a couple of years and my power bills weren't great summer or winter! They were probably still worse in summer, but getting up at 2am in winter (I was doing on call work one night in three!) was not pleasant without the heating on!
Kathryn wrote: "I find it easier to be an "eco-warrior" in winter than summer! I can cope without too much heating in winter (disclosure: I live in Brisbane so 4 - 5 deg is generally about our limit) but use more..."
I can remember getting up early for work in the winter (5am not 2am!) and that was bad enough!!! But even Brisbane has been pretty cold this year Kathryn!

Brenda wrote: "But even Brisbane has been pretty cold this year Kathryn!..."Do you think so? We have had some cold mornings (and I admit I have struggled to get in and out of the shower - is there anything wrong with having 15 min showers in winter...? Slight exaggeration, but I'd like to stay in there for that long! I would be very happy if you could install central heating in the bathroom!) but I can count on one hand the number of nights I've had a hot water bottle, and I haven't pulled out all the big guns of my warm clothing yet...

Yes, we've gotten down to about 5 and 6 - someone told me it was meant to be 4 this morning...but the days have been glorious, so not much need for extra warm clothes. But I'm still puzzled by my not needing a hot water bottle often - or even socks - most winters I seem to have a need for both! I don't even have a proper blanket on my bed this year, but I do have two throws sitting on top of the quilt, so maybe they are keeping me warm and toasty! I just wouldn't have thought the 2 together would have been any warmer than a single blanket...
There's a pork and veg curry sitting in the slow cooker being magically transformed at this moment, so it's still great weather for that, once the sun starts to disappear and the temp drops rapidly!
Mmm! Yum! Sounds delish:) Well, I have the flann PJs, and the socks to go with them;) But no hot water bottle or electric blanket! lol
Brenda wrote: "Mmm! Yum! Sounds delish:) Well, I have the flann PJs, and the socks to go with them;) But no hot water bottle or electric blanket! lol"One of my throws is an electric throw, but I haven't needed to turn it on to snuggle under either. Although I think I've only used the electric part of it 3 or 4 times (if that) since moving out of rural NSW and back to less frosty climes!! I did enjoy my electric throw when I was there, though (and the times I have used it when back here - I would occasionally wake at 4 or 5am as a uni student unable to sleep with assignments hanging over me - so I'd get up, snuggle under my electric throw and write/research assignments!).
Stay warm in your flannies and socks, Brenda!
No hot water bottle or electric blanket, Brenda? Either your house is a lot warmer than ours or I have cold blood. As well as the waterbed (heated) I take a couple of wheat bags to bed with me each night. Oh, and a man. :)

Raining and very, very blowy in Sydney right now! I won't have to water the garden now....because it's blown away!

I've never really been one to feel the cold - hubby and I are polar opposites in that regard! I don't even have flannelette sheets!

What, my garden?? Everything has blown sideways.
Intermittent howling wind gusts here in the Upper Hunter, and we've had five frosts in the last nine days. Very, very chilly!

The coldest morning we've had recently here on the Illawarra coast has been 7.7C but by the time I go out walking it's warmed up to about 10C: that's still fine weather for reading while out walking, as long as I have my beanie and fingerless gloves on.
Marianne wrote: "The coldest morning we've had recently here on the Illawarra coast has been 7.7C but by the time I go out walking it's warmed up to about 10C: that's still fine weather for reading while out walkin..."What about hat-hair?
Cold this morning in Sydney. My weather app says 3.6C here at the station waiting for the train to work.
Carolyn wrote: "Cold this morning in Sydney. My weather app says 3.6C here at the station waiting for the train to work."Brrr thank goodness last nights wind has stopped eh Carolyn? Have a good day in Workworld :)
Bad news, girls. We have severe winds here in South West so you might be getting them a bit later. Probably about the same time my train gets into Melbourne. rats!
Carolyn wrote: "Cold this morning in Sydney. My weather app says 3.6C here at the station waiting for the train to work."Yes, thank goodness no wind this morning as it would feel so much colder. Sounds like more wind might be on the way. Stay warm everyone.
