My kids bought me Season 1 for Mothers Day. Sounds like I'll have to start watching!

You'll enjoy it Marina. I'm going to catch up on episodes I missed. The final one recently shown was a real year jerker. It's a shame that we will probably miss out on a lot of these great BBC series now that they have teamed up with Foxtel.
So just in case you haven't seen it...For all of us who are fans of 'Call the Midwife' or 'Doctor Who' (or both, like me!) - you should really watch this :)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4doJ-...
Phrynne wrote: "I have watched a few episodes but there was too much puffing and blowing for me."lol there is a fair bit of that Phrynne...sometimes a bit "in your face"...but I guess being about midwives, you are going to get that.
Valerie wrote: "Aagghh! Autocorrect. Tear jerker."Haha...I texted my sister "good luck" this morning as she was catching a plane for holidays and lucky I noticed that auto correct gave an option of another word which rhymes with luck! Phew, not to be presumptuous about her agenda on said trip, but I quickly corrected it to read "luck".

Very funny clip but then I wasted a good ten minutes watching other clips. I had forgotten how good looking Johnny Depp used to be.

Agree - very funny!!! I love Call the Midwife! And just in case anyone hasn't watched all of season 3, I'll put the next bit in a spoiler… (view spoiler)

Lucky you caught that one, Julie! Could have been awkward.
Hi All, I have just watched the first episode of the first series of "Call the Midwife" I am hooked.
Phrynne wrote: "I have watched a few episodes but there was too much puffing and blowing for me."You'd probably prefer the books then Phrynne. Much less puffing and blowing :)
Brenda wrote: "Welcome back Vicki! We have missed you:)"Thanks, Brenda. I still have a bit to do, but I've nearly caught up (I think). :)
Sally906 wrote: "Welcome back Vicki gosh that month went fast :). Did you get lots of books read?"
Thanks, Sally. It went way too fast for me. I read more books than I've read all year. This many:
Not so blowy today but still bitterly cold. I hope everyone is warm and cosy inside. Enjoy your evening.
Wow, Vicky, the weather must have been really bad. That's a lot of books in one month! I'd love to do that but I don't think my eyes would be up to the challenge.
Marina wrote: "Wow, Vicky, the weather must have been really bad. That's a lot of books in one month! I'd love to do that but I don't think my eyes would be up to the challenge."Marina, the weather was amazingly mild. Every second day, we spent out and about exploring, so it wasn't all reading. :)

Thanks, Sally and Brenda. I was making up for lost reading time. I wish could read at that rate all the time. Now that I'm home, I haven't had a chance to read much at all. :)

Welcome back Vicki
Valerie wrote: "http://www.milesfranklin.com.au/"My online Aussie and NZ literary Lovers group will be reading this in November. Glad it has less than 300 pages, I often find the Miles Franklin awardees to be a bit dry.
There are 3 copies in the public library so will reserve a copy as soon as I get back from my holidays in August.
A three part series starting tonight at 9.30pm on the ABC called "The Bletchley Circle" looks good. We've set it to record.
Thanks, Dale. It's good to be home. :)Julie, I can highly recommend The Bletchley Circle. I caught it the first time around.

Oh wow!!
How's this?My hubby goes to the doctor for a script, chatting away, doctor shows his a book given to him by the author, says he doesn't really have time to read it. Hubby says, if Marianne can read 300 books in a year, you can surely read one, Yes, he says, but I've already read that one book. I suppose you want someone to read it for you and give you a review. Here, he says, give it to Marianne to read. So I've just been lumbered with 600 pages of a book I wouldn't have chosen: N
by John Alan Scott. I warned him it wouldn't be any time soon, and how about hubby tries to read it for him?
That's going to be a fun read for you, Marianne. ;-)I wonder why the doctor didn't simply tell the author, he didn't have the time/inclination to read it. I hope he doesn't pass off your review as his own.

If it's any consolation a friend of mine has given this 5 stars - something she very rarely does!!

Ooh good Vicki, it sounds very good too. We record them so we can watch them straight through without having to wait ;)
Vicki wrote: "Marianne wrote: "Oh wow!!"Not as wow as your 300 books a year! I'd love to be able to do that. :)"
Yeah but that was my hubby exaggerating, something he tends to do to to impress. Last year was 230, according to GR, not 300.
Oh, and good to have you back!

I think he just wants someone to give him a precis and whether it's any good or not, I did see that 5 star review, but 600 pages when 1940's Aussie politics really is not a topic of interest for me, hmm
Morning, Early Birds!Marianne, it's not much of an exaggeration - 230 is still a LOT OF BOOKS (IN HONOUR OF ALL CAPS DAY :)).

Early is the best time of the day though isn't it?

Definitely, the world is nice and quiet, the stars are out; peaceful. You don't really need to be doing anything else.
