Good luck with it Sally! If it's anything like the post earlier, it'll be a HUGE success!

As well as my books at the charity shops yesterday, I bought a slow cooker for a friend for $12. Am now testing it with Leek & Potato soup (have to use it as hubby is making a beef stew in ours....)

Lol....can we use this word?*Factitious : weaving between the factual and the fictionional.
*This is a word that Charlie, from Craig Silvey's book Jasper Jones invented to describe that circumstance in storytelling, of "weaving between the factual and the fictionional."
I love it!

It would be a good word to describe some of the recently popular historical fiction books which are based on some facts.

Are they Manga books? Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind
On our way home from Sydney. We watched the wind symphony at the Sydney Con. It was a fascinating program tonight.
My mum saw Michael Buble the other night. That was her Mother's Day present for a couple of years I think.
Is there some unwritten law that says that smoke alarm batteries must run out in the early hours of the morning? Never at 10am, but always at 2am or like today, 4am.

A good whack with a broom is the best way to treat those little suckers - well, that's what I've found in my widow-hood.

Ours always goes off in the middle of the night too - my puzzle is that it is a wired one, which also has a battery. So WHY does it run out when it's connected to the electricity?? I've never been able to work that one out! Plus I can never figure it out in the middle of the night either - the whole thing gets taken down and hidden in a towel in the laundry so we can't hear it beeping!

for Mother's Day.Your Mother is always with you.
She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street.
She's the smell of certain foods you remember,
flowers you pick and perfume that she wore.
She's the cool hand on your brow when you're not feeling well.
She's your breath in the air on a cold winter's day.
She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep,
the colors of a rainbow.
She is Christmas morning.
Your Mother lives inside your laughter.
She's crystallized in every teardrop.
A mother shows every emotion .....
happiness, sadness, fear,
love, hate, anger, helplessness,
excitement, joy, sorrow...
and all the while, hoping and praying
you will only know the good
feelings in life.
She's the place you came from, your first home,
and she's the map you follow with every step you take.
She's your first love; your first friend,
even your first enemy,
but nothing on earth can separate you.
Not time, not space...not even death!

Thanks Bette, that's beautiful and oh so true!
I'd like to wish all the mothers out there
Have an awesome day tomorrow and be spoiled as you all should be!

Marianne wrote: "Is there some unwritten law that says that smoke alarm batteries must run out in the early hours of the morning? Never at 10am, but always at 2am or like today, 4am."Yes! There is a law. It's written in the same book that says that if a house alarm mysteriously goes off, it must happen when your husband is out of town and it must happen when it's dark outside.
Bette, you just made me cry with sadness, in a nice way. This is precisely how I think of my mum. They never leave you. Thank you for posting this.
Beautiful, Bette. You're right: even death can't take away that bond. Mothers Day for me is a day of remembrance tinged with sadness. Happy Mothers Day to our mothers and daughters. xx
I sent my mum flowers and she rang me to say they were on her doorstep when she got home yesterday. I knew she would be out she's never home in the mornings - she is 86 and has not slowed down in the slightest. A,though she has swapped tennis for Yoga in the past few years!

Yes, me too Vicki, for my Mum and my son.
The saying I posted was in this month's Aust Women's Weekly.
Happy Mothers' Day to everyone from me too. Hope you all have an enjoyable day with your families :)

Dymocks at Casuarina Square here in Darwin is closing down any day now - her lease was due to be renewed and she has opted not to renew it. This is mostly because huge renovations are going to start and her shop is one of the ones that is going to be gutted to make way for a Myers. She can be relocated but will be disrupted for over a year and she thinks now is the time to go.We still have a QBD bookshop (as well as Big W and K-mart) but the owner of Dymocks says the way of the future in her opinion is one bookshop only at a shopping centre - gone are the days were you got 3 or 4 different ones.
We also have one independent bookshop in the Mall in the city. So Darwin has two bookshops only.

The same thing happened with Nurseries when the bigger, combined hardware places gobbled them all up. Now, not only is the experience of roaming round a lovely Nursery lost, but we now have to grow what they decide to supply....if it isn't half dead already from neglect and ignorance.
Also, neither of the options offer the service of experienced advice should you need it.
Being an avid gardener and reader, both of these issues have affected my enjoyment of my leisure time markedly.
Plants hate it when I wander around nurseries - they draw back their leaves and branches, close their flowers and try to look as sick as they possibly can so I won't pick them. I have brown thumbs - I can kill a plant quicker than a snap frost. I don't know why but a plant comes in my garden and its doomed. Trees and shrubs are fine - it is just the pretty things.

Sally906 wrote: "Plants hate it when I wander around nurseries - they draw back their leaves and branches, close their flowers and try to look as sick as they possibly can so I won't pick them. It's a lovely idea, and so far the lettuce is still alive, but they forgot that giving me a plant is tantamount to condemning it to death...
