Velvetink | 136 comments Laura sorry to hear the problems you are having with the employment agency. My daughter got the same deal between HSC and uni...(she had a gap year due to waiting for an operation) and in that time they had her filling out applications for all sorts of jobs she had no skills for or were even interstate. Anyhow, long story short, for some time we didn't know you could complain to Centrelink, and when we did she was able to change agencies, who actually took into account her health as well.

My son with the St Bernard and pups lives about 45 mins away. I'm heading down there next week and will be sure to get photos of the cuties. :o)

Isn't it amazing...when you want rain, it's not there (we are watering the gardens, as it is soooo dry!), and when you don't want rain, oh boy, is it there!!! :)

Neko Oh, how odd...I see the photo in your profile...I'd try right clicking it and getting the 'copy image location' which grabs it for you atleast in firefox. Then you go about your normal ways.

Flickr or photobucket are pretty cool to use, simple to pick up too...I'd try mucking around with them sometime. Just shoot me off a PM if you want help.

Anyhoo's..I'll post up your photo...Great photo too :D

Hey, i think congrats is in order though! Whenever you get somewhere (figure out) on a PC that is unknown/daunting it's a great feeling :D! I like teaching ppl how to use PCs overal because you can learn alot from them too.

I think with the way PC/Macs are now going they are getting easier and easier to understand. I mighten't say the same thing if we were talking about the earlier releases of Windows though, that was kinda evil for a noob.

Neko hahaha...just makes it quick for typing up! Like FF for Fire Fox, all good innocent fun. No gutter brain here. :P

Wow, i am truely amazed..an old internet friend just got in touch with me through an old site i never use anymore but I just happened to check the email account linking it..She was hoping my sister and I weren't effected by the floods. I'd never think of her to remember where we came from. That just stopped me in my tracks for a little minute.

Great pic Carmel, true blue? definately (-: I remember there was a bloke (as a roman statue) during expo, used to follow people in front of the Plough Inn going from one end to the other, I would sit up on the top verandah & laugh at the reactions.

Neko Auurrrgghhhh! I installed my programs to do my illustrations in it last night...This morning I booted up my PC only to have it not work properly. The program killed my internet connection. FRAWWWGGHH! No idea why it did that considering I've installed it before -.-; Glad it's solved, just a bit annoyed I had to ring up my Dad for help when he's away on holidays.

This is an email I received from Booktopia, for anyone who is interested in Jean M Auel.

BUZZ IN BRIEF
Dear Brenda

I am contacting you to tell you of a once in a generation opportunity.

In 1980, everyone was reading The Clan of the Cave Bear . Jean Auel's book about prehistory and the dawn of the human story was the "it" book of the 80s. What followed, spaced six, eight, ten years apart, were four more instalments featuring the feisty Ayla and her group of cave dwelling, mammoth hunting, magic making wanderers.

For the millions (as in 50 million) of her followers world-wide, the wait for the end of the saga is almost over.

The final book in Auel's Earth's Children saga is almost here. It will be released around the world on March 29.

Pre-order here to secure your copy of
THE LAND OF PAINTED CAVES
at the amazingly low price of $32.95 - SAVE 34%

Pick up or delivery after 9am March 29.

Pre-order now. Who is going to be interested in this book? Any one who enjoys a great story, that's who.

Auel recreates pre-history so authentically that the reader is cannot help live and breathe with the characters, fearing their fears and celebrating their triumphs. The series has enough adventure, romance, intrigue and action to keep just about anyone happy - male or female, young or old.

And for those girls in particular who are born and bred with the Twilight phenomenon, I can only say that Ayla makes one hell of a heroine and that facing off a mammoth makes an encounter with a vampire look like a Sunday school picnic.

The Land of Painted Caves is being presented as a gorgeous hardback. The first print run will include an augmented reality chip in the dust jacket which when held in front of a smart phone or a webcam, will activate a 3D image of Ayla (and her spear). Magic.

More good news. Everyone who pre-orders The Land of Painted Caves will have a chance to receive one of three sets of volumes 1 - 5 of the Earth's Children series at absolutely no cost. Here is what you need to do.

1. Pre-order The Land of Painted Caves

2. Email your order number to jeanauel@booktopia.com.au answering the question "if you were the first person in the world to actually speak, what would be your first sentence?"

The three lucky recipients will be advised in the first week of April at which time their names will be announced in the Booktopia Blog.

Jean Auel has been fascinated by human prehistory since her first visit to the Lascaux Caves decades ago. Having made my own pilgrimage there much more recently, I experienced myself the spell cast by those images in ochre that were made so many thousands of years ago.

Watch the author speaking about her new book and her experiences at Lascaux here. (Scroll down to the interview)

Meanwhile, we are very proud to present her exclusive, generous and detailed answers to our Ten Terrifying Questions here.

Finally, you can read an extract from The Land of Painted Caves here.

Act now to receive your copy of The Land of Painted Caves for delivery after March 29.

To get you in the mood, and to introduce new readers to the series, we also have available the first five books in the series, all re-jacketed to match the final one, volume 6. Collect these wonderful books now - just click on the jacket images.

I know that this series is going to appeal to a huge cross-section of people, not to mention Auel's legions of fans. I look forward to the discussion that is going to come once we finally know what happens.

Please feel free to pass on this email to anyone you know who might want to take advantage of a great book and a seriously low price.

Happy reading!

Toni Whitmont
Editor-in-Chief
Booktopia

P.S. Jean's Australian publishers, Hachette, have set up a Jean Auel facebook page.

Hope everyone has had a wonderful Aussie Day! It's terribly hot here! We had to cover our tomatoes this morning before going out, so they didn't get burnt!!! Would have been at least 40, and the air con is struggling, since we got home & put it on!! :)

message 1137: by Neko (new)

Neko @Brenda- Holly cow..40!!! *melts*

Ahhh, just got home from a bbq dinner at a friends house was really nice to get out of the house. Currently I only have my bedroom/bathroom to live in..Floors are being redone but I wanted to look after the cats since once is getting a lot older..So I chose to stay behind.

message 1138: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 27, 2011 02:33PM) (new)

We had a little bit of excitement at our house last night. I was reading in bed and got up to get a glass of water, when I returned to my bedroom there was a snake in the bedroom doorway. It was a metre long thin brown snake. I have no idea how I didn't step on the darn thing when I walked past it the first time. Unfortunately the camera was in the bedroom so no photos. The snake was pretty relaxed so we didn't panic. The Garage is opposite my bedroom we gradually coaxed the snake through the garage by shining a torch at it. It slid into the drain at the front of the house. As long as it was outside I didn't care. My biggest worry is that it might freak the kids out. To tell or not to tell, that is the question.

Surprisingly I slept soundly, only to be woken this morning by the noise of a tree crashing down. I got up looked out to the backyard, couldn’t see any carnage, a minute later the husband arrives in the bedroom to tell me that a tree had fallen across the drive way. It narrowly missed the house and my husband’s Ute. I took a photo of the tree, it isn't going anywhere in a hurry, neither are our cars.

The Tree 6.00am

The tree 7.00am

Today I am feeling very lucky, one of the neighbours knocked on my door offering to give me a lift to the train station. I am buying a lottery ticket at lunch today while my luck holds.

message 1139: by Mandapanda (new)

Mandapanda Wow what amazing luck. I guess that's the downside to your beautiful location. Plenty of close encounters with the local flora and fauna. Definitely buy a lotto ticket!!! Glad you survived th night Gail!:)
