Holy moly, Brenda! How lucky was your brother-in-law? Not lucky that he fell in the drain, but lucky he lived to tell the tale.

Yes he most certainly was extremely lucky! After speaking to various family members in various states this afternoon, everyone is of the same opinion!

Pretty scary time.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Liam. Their families must be beside themselves...
Oh Liam, that's awful. I can only imagine what your friend and his family are going through and I'm sure the reality is worse than my imaginings :-(

Yes it certainly was Sally! I doubt whether he'll do it again...after the roasting his family has given him!

That is so awful; being in the water so far from land must be terrifying. Hoping for a miracle.
Brenda, I'm glad they found him!

sounds horrid, Sally, I'd hate that.
The last two days I've watched the BBC production of Parade's End by Ford Madox Ford. a fantastic mini-series.see: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01m7rn8
I've now added the book to my tbr.

I was shocked when I heard the news. She was such a vibrant, larger than life personality. So very sad. Especially for her family and friends...(My mum suicided 27 years ago yesterday - she was the same age as Charlotte.)

Thanks, Brenda. It took a long time before I could talk about it. Whenever I hear of anyone suiciding, my heart goes out to their families. They will be in deep shock. The reality of it probably hasn't really hit them yet...
Reading all the comments on the rain. I can see it moving up the coast! So Australia! The Wet and the Dry constantly command our attention in this great country of ours.

The 2nd Thursday of September is RUOK day (this year September 11)https://www.ruokday.com
This is a sad but timely moment to urge everyone of you, everyday, to ask friends if they are OK and be willing to help if they're not.
If you are not ok then don't be afraid to ask for help.

You know when "Parade's End" was on free to air
TV my husband was desperate to see it but the
times were changed so often I think he managed
to see an hour altogether, he was really disappointed
but he thought what else could you expect from
the major networks. He is still keen to see it.

Seeing it on the news last night it sounds as
though she suffered from depression for many years.
It is very sad, I thought it was quite sad also
to see Richard Wilkin's very genuine grief. It
seemed to make it very real.

It's a tragedy, and to lose someone as special as your Mum at a young age would make it terribly difficult to cope - the question of why would haunt you and you siblings, and probably still does...take care Vicki:) **hugs**
The talking about Charlotte this morning and the fact that she was on the panel on Friday morning, and no-one could see her struggling; she seemed upbeat and vibrant on the show...it's terribly sad.

With Mum, Dad had planned a special celebration for the day -- it was their 25th wedding anniversary. The 25 red roses he bought her went on her coffin. No one saw it coming.
Oh Vicki! My heart goes out to you and your family. How terribly sad. Sorry, I'm just catching up. I've been offline for a couple of days with daughter and grandchildren here. My study was a bedroom. We had a lovely time together.
I was just talking to friends this afternoon about mental illness and the toll it takes on the person with the illness and all their friends and families. My thoughts are with you and your family as well, Vicki, and with anyone struggling with mental illness and with anyone who knows, loves or cares for someone with a mental illness. Lovely to hear you spent a nice time with family, Dale. I think I'm about to finish Streets on a Map: Journey Through Changes - I've been enjoying reading it!
For those interested in signing the petition for the newly formed Charlotte's Law - Tougher Cyber Bullying Legislation - http://www.change.org/en-AU/petitions...
I have signed it too. When I was at school you knew who the bullies were and just avoided them or told a teacher and the parents were told. There were consequences. There seems to be no consequence now - the anonymity of the Internet gives them the venue and it also desensitizes them from realising they are doing real harm not virtual harm!

Signed. And forwarded to all my email contacts. My heart has felt sick since I read the news about Charlotte.
60% of the people in my graduating year went into law, maybe 10% stuck with it.The other 40% went into engineering and now they're laughing.
I guess its what you want to do with your degree when you've finished. The daughter of a workmate has just started studying Law in Adelaide - she speaks 2 languages other than English (English is her native tongue) she is studying International law and plans to use the degree to travel.
