I agree with Liam. These people are potentially mass murderers and should be given no mercy.

Elaine, we're in Murrindindi and lived through Black Saturday so can relate to the trauma of what you're going through.Fortunately for us, the nearest fire is 18kms upwind of us and is under control. But knowing how conditions can change in a flash, we've activated our fire plan.
Stay alert and be safe...
Update: Just received an alert that we have a new fire 20kms in the other direction.

Oh gosh, Vicki. Yes you would have been right in the line of fire back then. Sorry no pun intended but I remember constantly hearing Murrindindi on the radio. You're not all that far from me really. Stay safe. It's quite frightening and nature is bad enough to contend with, without all these crazy people lighting fires deliberately. They're also saying the one in Warrandyte was deliberately lit. Just awful.
Those arsonists are the worst kind of evil. I can't believe they can have actually thought through the devastating consequences of their actions. Evil.

You're right Vicki...if they had thought it through they might realize their own homes could be lost, with members of their own families at risk.

We've heard that homes have been lost and although we are..."Wow Vicki you must be close by. We were on watch and act for that fire here too. It didn't come close enough for us to have to evacuate, but 7kms away was close enough to worry. I am glad that you are safe.
A by-product of bushfires - Last week on a 39C day, about 50kms east of me, a fire started because someone was using a certain type of machinery, illegal on Total Fire Ban Days. The highway was blocked. A cattle carrying semi-trailer was stuck in the line of traffic. The cattle were dying from heat exhaustion because the truck was stationery for so long. The police attending were apparently furious that someone's thoughtlessness caused this.
This is all so sad :( I could smell smoke in my house as I woke up this morning. The fire must be so vast to be floating smoke all the way down the peninsula. My heart goes out to everyone in danger areas and all the volunteers fighting tirelessly x
Smoke getting thicker by the minute on the Mornington Peninsula, stay safe everyone, look after everyone and all things great and small.
Fires are raging everywhere in Vic. I can smell the smoke all the way down in Keilor. It's absolutely devastating. Stay safe everyone.
I also woke to the smell of smoke in my house and whilst out walking early this morning it was evens stronger. It's just awful and my heart goes out to everyone. Keep safe everyone.

It is awful Sharon and a worry. if I can smell it here being close to city (and it's strong), I can't imagine what the residence and firefighters are going through being in the heart of it all. It's very bad.

This isn't my normal GR time. Fun to have people replying to threads immediately that I post them. It's lonely at 3am when I'm normally GRing.

You had a resolution to sleep more/longer Bette! What happened to it? I was surprised when I saw you on here through the day today;)

Be proud. It is exercise and fun. It is world wide as well.
Ugh, death. Sucks but is necessary. I was watching The Master just now and it made me realise how much I m going to miss Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Sheepish, I think. You could do yourself or someone else a nasty injury with those sticks:P

Still on 4hrs only :( I failed at sleep school. It certainly was nice tody to chat to Aussies instead of Americans/Britons like I normally do:)
Brenda,I think this is pertinent to all GR/ARs. Is it okay to post here?
Want the genre box back: Please VOTE & SHARE the poll.

Definitely fine to post here Bette - I also received your invitation, voted, and invited my friends too! Thanks:) So with a bit of luck the PTB might listen to the minions!

The genres listed on the right hand side of the book you're reading/perusing....it used to be there for all of them, so you could decide if eg. it's Historical Fiction so you might read it, or it's Horror so you won't! It saves the readers trying to work it out themselves, as it's from what the other readers have shelved...
For example (off the top of my head) look at this book, and all the different genres on the RHS...

Some still have it (like the one I showed you), but the new releases and not that often read are noticeably lacking...I personally hate it, as I use the genre box all the time:)
so do I - I was aware of the genre box and use it a lot - just not aware that not all books had them. I must be a cool kid and read all the popular books ;)
Bette Bookworm wrote: "This isn't my normal GR time. Fun to have people replying to threads immediately that I post them. It's lonely at 3am when I'm normally GRing."I'm sometimes up at that time, too, Bette. Not always GRing, though.
I'm one who never uses the genre book. I hate books being classified by genre because often what someone else thinks is not where I would put it. I'd rather just read a little about the book and figure it out myself.
Dale wrote: "I'm one who never uses the genre book. I hate books being classified by genre because often what someone else thinks is not where I would put it. If you're the sort of person that likes something to be within a genre you can probably recognise whether a book is that or not.
I always thought they were shelves. So it shows what other people have shelved them on. I can shelve one book on 4 or 5 different shelves. So it could be historical, romance, paranormal , Australian author as well as slotted on a challenge shelf. The 'genre' shows the top choices so if 100 people say the book is paranormal and 50 think it is fantasy then Paranormal will be before Fantasy on the list. So if you think of them as shelves then it is not a problem. This is just my thoughts not necessarily correct thought :)

Yes you're right Sally - shelved as the genres the readers think they are:)
