The horrors of the bushfires in Victoria and SA at the moment, NSW in October last year (too early but...) with WA copping it too...another reason I hate summer!

I'm over it too, Brenda, majorly. We evacuated today as there was a major fire in Warrandyte,Vic. We are home now but have been advised to stay on high alert. We've heard that homes have been lost and although we are on the other side of the river,the Yarra, there was the fear that with the wind change the fire could jump across. I am thankful that didn't happen and once again cannot praise the hard work of the CFA who are amazing. Without wanting to sound melodramatic I am so grateful that we had a house to come home to. Some don't, tonight.

I must say that today especially I didn't really care about anything but getting my family safely out of here. We could see and smell smoke and hear the sirens and helicopters and that was frightening enough. I can't imagine how awful it must have been for those closer to the fire. Eerie thing is it occured only 2 days from the anniversary of the Black Saturday fires. That was scary. So thankful the outcome was so different....although homes were lost no lives were.

Yes, I knew she was a kindle best selling author! Until yesterday, I could see no paper editions at all.

Making sure that all your family and friends are safe. So many friends were in danger yesterday and it was wonderful to see everyone in the community looking out for one another. Complete strangers living nearby, that were not under threat, were offering their homes to those that had nowhere to go. I even heard that our two local shopping centres were allowing people in with their pets and providing water and power. How wonderful is that? This is the great Aussie spirit...we all come together when it counts.

We've heard that homes have been lost and a..."Elaine, I know how you felt. I grew up in Dandenong Ranges and we were evacuated 8 times between my age of 2 to 13; it's pretty scary stuff, isn't it? Thank God your home and loved ones are safe,:) Sadly, it is the penalty of living is such a gorgeous place...
Oh Elaine, glad you are all safe. As you say, lives are all that matter - the rest is just belongings, some of which may be of sentimental value and impossible to replace, but still not worth risking a life for. Take care today, and that goes for anyone living in or near the bushfires or where bushfires are a risk.

Don't worry about the number of reserves, in my experience the libaries normally have multiple copies of the popular books. I was number 78 and only had to wait a week or two. So don't worry it normally happens fairly quickly.

Thanks Bette, Kathryn, Dale, Vicki and Brenda for your concern. We're okay here in Warrandyte for now but the fires in the north west of the state are still going and have caused a lot of destruction. It's absolutely devastating and we're hearing that a lot of those fires have been deliberately lit. It's just awful. Vicki I just realised you're a fellow Victorian. Are you under threat at the moment?

I heard that tonight too Elaine:( I wish they could catch them - I don't understand the mentality of anyone who would deliberately light fires at any time, let alone this type of weather! Total morons!
