I threw my back out a couple weeks ago and the resulting pain hasn't left me in the mood for much reading. After various failed treatments, I'm off to get a morphine shot this morning - hopefully that will work!

Can you ring someone - of course, that comes with its own frustrations!
Ashleigh wrote: "I could I guess, I could find the number. I just hope it's not one of those sitting around for half the day type calls"I know - or being palmed off from person to person… That can happen with emails too, it's just you don't know it! Maybe that's why your answer is taking longer, Ashleigh - but definitely a good idea to get in touch again somehow and get some sort of answer, even if it's that they're still working out the answer!!
Anyone here from our Tropical North Queensland? Hope you stay safe and don't get flooded out as the cyclone moves closer to the coast. Actually I think it is still a low at the movement but may have been declared now. I know parts of Townsville are already under water.Prayers and good vibes going out to all those affected.

I have chronic back problems and find a heating pad can provide some relief. I also have an excellent chiropractor-cum-physio who manages to keep my back in reasonable working condition. But you have to find what works for you.

Michael wrote: ".You already know I am, but I was never worried this is North Queensland life..."Yes knew you were Townsville - just worried if you were in flood zone rather than getting blown away. Knew a cat 1 or 2 is mostly ok except for trees blowing down. But the floods are worse. Well I think so anyway. The storm surge zone is suppose to stop on the other side of the road to us. I hope the surge has read the maps :)
No Brenda. We not getting hit - just saying it is the fear of flood bothers me more than the fear of a cyclone. I guess if a big one was heading our way we might consider sandbagging but Darwin hospital would go under before us. They built our only hospital slap bang in the middle of a flood zone!
Oh I see - when you said about the storm surge, I thought you meant NOW!! Sorry;) Silly place to build a hospital!!
What a crazy country we live in, bush fires and floods all at the same time. Let's all try and stay safe xx
Xin Nian Kuai Le (Happy New Year) to all members of this group with Chinese links.Galloping success to everyone in this Year of the Horse!
It is your year if you were born in 1930 or one of the years in multiples of 12 after that.
Yesterday, I saw the movie Blue Jasmine; Cate Blanchett is simply amazing. Now I understand why she won the Golden Globe for best Actress. It's a typical Woody Allen movie so if you're not a fan of his stuff.....
I'm at Bob Jane waiting for a tyre to be repaired and I envisaged about half an hour to an hour of quiet reading, but there's 2 boys in the waiting room - quite good boys, but still doing the distracting things kids do when confined in a small room with nothing much to entertain them. So I'm not quite as engrossed in my book as I would like to get...!

I went to the doctor the other afternoon expecting to get at least half an hour of waiting room reading done. And she was running on time so I only got five minutes! So disappointing.

I know. Sometimes I wonder why we even make appointments at all. And the vet is even worse! Plus it's harder to concentrate on your book when your dog is taking exception to all the other dogs in the room (My dog is not small or friendly.)

I'll agree about the vets. We picked up our beagle today after a major op - he is fine but the dogs in the waiting room were a mixed bunch. There was the young boisterous collie whose owner, a young teenage boy, had no idea how to control his dog. There was an old shepherd who just wanted to be left alone and his sidekick who was a well trained young shepherd who just sat and looked at the other dogs. There were two bull terrier types who both wanted to eat each other with an elderly lady and her white fluff ball of a dog quivering and shaking on her lap sitting in the middle of the two waring bullies. Then a girl came in with a cat - every doggie just stopped what it was doing and with complete precision every canine head turned to stare at the cat! If the girl wasn't so scared it would have been funny. The vet nurse ordered the two bull terriers to wait out on the grass and I directed the girl to the seat next to me which was well away from the other dogs and calm was restored! We waited half an hour but neither hubby or I were game to get our books out - lol!

The dog has done better than my hubby did last year. Dog got antinflamitorys, 2 types of pain killer and tranquillisers - hubby got oh if you experience pain take Panadol!

I've realised that so far this year, the covers of all the books I've read so far this year are the same kind of tonings of light blue/green/yellow/brown colours: https://www.goodreads.com/user_challe...And the three I'm currently reading won't help to change that -
How strange!

It is a beautiful part of the world, just watch out for our beautiful dolphins, they are out there I saw them just the other day.
Faye wrote: "Kathryn wrote: "I've realised that so far this year, the covers of all the books I've read so far this year are the same kind of tonings of light blue/green/yellow/brown colours: https://www.goodre..."Yes, that's bizarre too, Faye! Unless you've become interested in the history of tea-making or plantations or similar topics recently and are seeking out books to expand your knowledge!
It's a bit like when someone mentions something you've never heard of before, and then all of a sudden you see and hear it everywhere - books, TV, radio, conversations!!
Whoo-hoo, it's a sweltering 39.9C right now! It's 23C inside my house; I keep thinking about getting air-con. But people have lived in my house for the last 163 years without it so I guess I can do without it too.Heading across the road for a swim:)

Ron, Chicki and I are just back from the local swimming races. The only thing I can brag about is coming third in the Ladies One Kilometre race. Honesty demands me to reveal that there were four ladies in it...

He is an amazing speaker - I went to a couple of panels he was on at the Melbourne Writers Festival a few years back. We kept bumping into each other then we ended up at the airport in the same waiting area waiting for different flights and he recognized me and said that he was stalking me :) His wife was with him and she's very nice too we chatted for about half an hour on completely unrelated to books subjects.
