Nobody hurt, the guy's car has seen better days though.43 degrees yesterday, today it's freezing with heavy wind, trees are snapping all over the place. Council office is in the same building as the library here, at least a dozen people coming in reporting fallen trees.

Oh wow! That's a huge difference! Hope no-one gets hurt with the wind creating havoc!
Currently in Adelaide CBD is 28.5C. we got up to 43.5C yesterday. Its fairly windy here. Won't surprise if there're tree falls around the place though.

Books available The Midwife: A Memoir of Birth, Joy, and Hard Times, Call the Midwife: Shadows of the Workhouse, Farewell To The East End: The Last Days Of The East End Midwives all by Jennifer Worth. I have started the first one.
I have read them all and tv series was true to the books. I enjoyed them all.

I love the Call the Midwife books and mini-series as well! I was watching the ABC last night and saw a Christmas special Call the Midwife is on at 8.30pm on Boxing Day - am going to set it to record, just in case I forget! And there's a Phryne Fisher Christmas special on tomorrow night at 7.30 which I'm also looking forward to!

And I am so jealous, Bette, that you will get to see the fourth season of Downton very soon. It'll be Feb at least before it screens here - they kept advertising it last year during the tennis as starting "after the tennis" but with no actual date, and in the end, I'm sure it was several weeks after the tennis before it aired! So frustrating!
And then the ads..., but don't get me started! I've realised the wisest option is to record it and watch later! But then I need to be careful what I read on the internet or watch on TV in case something is mentioned that I'd rather not know about before I see the week's episode!
It was 38 degrees here near Gosford yesterday and we don't have air conditioning. At least it is a lot cooler today. It was meant to have rained last night.On a different note, have they changed the format of Goodreads?

Man it's so windy here in SA. Last night I was driving home and a tree branch fell on the road about 20 seconds before I was directly beneath it. This morning the pool looked like a swamp. There were so many leaves and branches that the water could barely be seen.

The pricing of books in AU retailer stores are amazing. Same book, one of the new releases. Dymocks have it for $39.95, Target and a couple of independent book sellers have it for $34.95, and BigW have it for $24. That make me think, either Dymocks over price on their products, or BigW sell it in a lost. But, 40% of a price different its rather amusing to say the least.

hmm could be. But you would have think bookshops will come in front of the games. I mean, won't book stores got their stock right from the publisher itself? The book i was talking about is the Michael Hussey's Bio as a Christmas present. And someone was telling me is the same story for the Ponting's Bio as well. :)

Brenda is right. Big W buy in bulk and so get a much better price overall and so are able to sell their books 35%,40% and sometimes even 50% cheaper than Dymocks!!! But you don't get the same personal customer service or recommendation that you can get from a Dymocks store and always service with a smile!! :) Also I agree with Bette and Ashleigh that there are a lot of books you just can't get at these department stores. But for the more mainstream books they are definitely the cheapest around.
I wouldn't know whether Dymocks offers personalised service to walkies - the store isn't accessible. Big W though, I can get around it. Doesn't matter how many times I complain - Dymocks has no interest in providing customer service to the likes of me.Which is why it really annoys me when people (not here) harangue and harangue about how "we" should all be patronising specialist bricks 'n' mortar bookshops because of their supposedly amazing and caring customer service.

We are definitely accommodating to all our customers and in fact make an extra effort to help those around the store that have difficulty. Of course I have a personal vested interest in keeping our store in business as it is my livelihood but I also strongly believe that we provide a service that you just can't get at the bigger department stores... a greater knowledge of book availability and the means to be able to track down any book a customer may require. But of course everyone has a right to choose where to shop.

well, my first choice is still to shop online for books whenever i can. With Dymocks, they do free delivery after $50 or $100 anyway, and honestly, it only takes 3 or 4 books to achieve $100 or more these days. And often, you can find titles online that you can't necesary find it in store. I'm not sure if the smilely face and friendly service always happen in all Dymocks store. My in store experience with the local Dymocks is average service. For books reccomendations and all that, i will prefer the local Indidependent Bookstores. Often better service than Dymocks, and their staff often more wide read than Dymocks i found. Frankly speaking, for me buying printed books for my own is more for collection purposes. What with Kindle and iBooks and what not these days, it really open up the reading door for me. By saying that though, i often spend around $500 to $1000 on writers festivals and writers weeks, collecting books that is rare to get in Australia instore or otherwise.
The only time I will ever buy a book from a brick and mortar store is when I need something that day - like when I got the Hunger Games bug or a week and a bit ago when I went and bought all of John Green's books.I can probably count on one hand the amount of books I haven't been able to find on BookDepository for cheaper than any physical store.

My christmas shall consist of going to my family gathering for as small a time as possible, leaving with the excuse that I'm spending christmas with a mate of mine, going home and reading for a week straight.Get pumped.
