That is one thing that bugs me Ashleigh! Just at a crucial point in the story and the battery goes flat!!

I'm heading out shortly to meet Aussie author Susan Duncan. She is going to discuss her latest book
with us all:)
with us all:)
Susan Duncan is a fascinating woman. Deeply passionate about what she does, her discussion was riveting. She lives in the house which was built for Dorothea MacKellar in the early 1900s and knew her quite well in MacKellar's latter years. We also had one audience member who had a letter (genuine article) signed by Dorothea and addressed to this lady. She used to care for Dorothea when she was only 17 years old and Dorothea was frail. Another audience member had a photo album with fabrics and silks to do with MacKellar's poetry and her life. Susan was amazed...

Brenda wrote: "Just letting everyone know that this time next week we'll be on the road, heading for Brisbane. We sail out of Brisbane harbour on Saturday 19th, bound for Fiji!! A little wave from you all at 2pm ..."That sounds wonderful, Brenda. My parents went on their first cruise last year - Mum wasn't sure she would like it, but she returned completely sold on cruising! However they stuck to the Aussie coast and just went from Brisbane to Port Douglas. Heading out to Fiji will be quite the experience - enjoy your cocktails!

I'll be quiet for the next few days - there's a fault in my line meaning that my internet is currently stuck at dialup speeds. This is the worst torture imaginable.
Liam wrote: "I'll be quiet for the next few days - there's a fault in my line meaning that my internet is currently stuck at dialup speeds. This is the worst torture imaginable."Know the feeling. Fingers crossed the fault is rectified sooner rather than later. But hey, it's a good excuse to get away from the computer for a while. :)

Ebooks are great, I still read book books, however, ebooks are great for when you are going to appointments etc, they are good for changing the font so you can see the writing and very light to hold, some books are too heavy. Also I have found sometimes when books are released you can get them on ebooks but the hard copy comes later.Just my thoughts.

Protip, if you have an internet issue, and you live with your parent/s, ask them if they've done anything. After five days and eight tech support calls, we've nailed down the problem (which started about a week ago) to the lack of an ADSL phone line filter (which my mum unplugged about a week ago).

That's funny! Sounds like you and your mum need to communicate more, Liam, what with the clocks and now the phone issues!!
I'm on the last day of my holiday in the UK. Flying home tonight. Enjoy your cruise Brenda. I have done a cruise right round New Zealand and we had rough weather on the way back. I discovered I am a good sailor but a lot of other people were not. You can tell when the dining room is half empty!!!

I'm having rather a busy weekend. attending a 3 days writing for memoir / life story writing workshop. It runs by author Peter Rose at the South Australia Writers Center. It is a great workshop, lots of inspiration from other fellow writers. :)

Any of our people living in or around Canberra, does the Canberra Times still publish a poem or two each Saturday. Thanks.
I seem to be having a lot of success in my reading in this last month i.e. mostly 4★ books. But I can say I am choosing very carefully:)Also I'm reading faster but I think that's because I've been snagging the Large Print editions where I can. My sight is fine but the larger print just makes the pages easier to read. Anyone else do that?

Hi Bette, I find I read faster with slightly larger print, thats I think why I also like the E-reader because you can change the font.It is great to get through more books.

I only ever grab a large print at the library Bette, if a title appeals and I can't find it in normal version. Interestingly, I don't find I read any faster that way. We're all different though.

Glad you are having a month of such good reads, Bette. It's funny the way that sometimes happens, isn't it?!
Like Dale, I'll borrow a large print book if I can't find what I want in the regular size and it is available in large print. I always feel slightly guilty though, as I wonder whether I should leave the large print books for the people with vision problems... :-/
For some reason, this month seems like a slow reads month for me. I haven't able to get in to a book completely, in one setting. Which is not like me at all. :) definitely need to revisit my TBR list and take inspiration from some of you here.
Well, most of the large print books are still rather small prints for people that have real vision problems. however, i know there are some readers, specially the older readers like the large print books more as it is easier to read, and the paper they use seems cleaner than the average normal print font book.
I'm turning off my computer now, in order to try to get a good night's sleep before the start of our holiday tomorrow. See you all back here in three weeks:)

Yes, I do feel that guilt that I might be depriving a less sighted person but I usually have a book out only overnight so I tell myself that's okay.
Actually now that you mentioned that, my Catholic guilt is going to rise up:)

I have a few 'normal' size print books here lined up so it will be interesting if I am as fast reading those.
Ooh, sorry, Bette! I wasn't trying to inspire guilt in any one else! If it makes you feel any better, when I borrow a large print book (and I have one at the moment), I usually have it out a lot longer than overnight, despite my guilt!I also tell myself that there are a lot of other books in the large print section to choose from...

I was watching the news earlier about all the fires around Springwood and surrounds in Sydney. How terrible for anyone living in those areas... Thoughts and prayers with everyone affected.
Same Kathryn. Scary times. Thoughts and prayers indeed. Fires springing up all over. Apparently another between Ulladulla and Braidwood.

This is awful. I have a friend staying in the Blue Mountains about 25km from the fires. She's saying she can see them from where she is and they're on watch. Very concerned for her and of course it's very sad for those people who have lost their homes. I can't even imagine what it would be like. We live in a high risk fire area and have had to evacuate once last summer and that was scary enough without really seeing any real signs of the fires.

Me too... my whole suitcase used to be taken up with books. Now I just have the Kindle in my handbag. I do love "real" books, but another advantage of the Kindle is I don't have to ferret around for my glasses... (now that is dating me!).
