It has a lot of legs and is just as ugly, close enough as far as I'm concerned!
Our pest man is just finished, and confirmed by my photo that it's a house centipede Liam. And they're history in my house!!! You hit the nail on the head very well! Thanks:)
And this has just decided to wriggle across our floor!!! OMG! It's the biggest I've ever seen...where are they coming from????

I agree! It doesn't bother me killing redbacks, it's the sheer size of these monsters that freaks me out!!!

Brenda wrote: "And this has just decided to wriggle across our floor!!! OMG! It's the biggest I've ever seen...where are they coming from????Is this the moment when I tell you that I found one of these in our bed? We were living in the Pilbara at the time when I woke up in the middle of the night with a burning toe. Thought I'd just slept funny, but when the burning didn't stop, I decided to check my toe out, and discovered a couple of large red fang marks! At that point I totally disintegrated the bed, and one of those came crawling out....
A quick check in the first aid book, and an icepack and everything settled down, but suffice to say, centipedes are not my favourite things!

Oh Leonie that is so awful! How did you even go back to bed? Fortunately we haven't seen anything else since then!

I was a bit paranoid about it for a while - you know how it goes - my brain was convinced that the bed was actually a centipede habitat! Some years later we were in Broome and watched an epic battle between a huge centipede and a frilled neck lizard. They battled and wrestled for probably half an hour, and it only ended when the frilled neck lizard bit the centipede's head off and ran off crunching it down.
It's how it seems to go if you've ever lived in remote Australia. Everyone I've met has a good stock of creepy-crawly/reptile infested stories.

I can totally believe that..checking the bed every night.
The laws of nature are amazing that's for sure. Our inhabitant also lost his head, but not by any lizard!

Let's hope that he didn't, but if it's any consolation, the one that bit me was the only one inside at that time...

Lincolnshire, UK has no such creatures as ours Catherine...and yes Sharon, overseas visitors don't like our Australian nasties!!
Recommendations: I've been checking through my Literary Fiction recs and books kept coming up because I had read Saving CeeCee Honeycutt.I'm sorry but there is no way this novel is Literary Fiction! But some people have shelved it as such as so GR keeps crowding my recs with book like that.
A case of recs being skewed because books are 'incorrectly' shelved. Does this happen to anyone else? I mentioned this as a new topic in GR Feedback.

Hey Bette, if you want to be able to get recommendations from Goodreads that may be more trustworthy than using recommendations from the Literary Fiction genre, you could try creating your own Literary Fiction shelf (maybe call it My Literary Fiction to distinguish it from GR's LF genre) and put all the books on it that you've read that fit your definition of Literary Fiction. Then, when you go to the Recommendations page, use your "My Literary Fiction" shelf to look at for recommendations. Does that make sense??! I'm not sure if it would work, but you could try it...

Kathryn, I have done that but sadly GR keeps throwing me up books shelved by people as Literary Fiction which are not Literary Fiction:(
Another example is The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry; it's one of my favorite books but there's no way it is Literary Fiction.
Oh, I could keep grumbling till the cows come home... :)
On a lighter note!I went for a two hour horse ride yesterday morning; first time in six months and my bum is aching this morning:):)
Bette if you're looking for some decent literary fiction and I'm pretty sure it IS literary fiction I would highly recommendAlex Miller. Not sure if you've read any of his books but he writes beautifully and most of his books linger for quite a while once you are done. Also he's very good at writing from a female perspective. Going off topic...Wow!!! A two hour horse ride. That's amazing. I don't even think I could get on a horse anymore..let alone stay on for that long!!!

I staggered to my computer at what I thought was 8:30, found it was 7:30, and then went back to bed, and slept until 9:30.I'm good at this.
