This old man (I believe he's blind, but he might just use a cane) tells everyone he meets about the (pottery?) factory accident he was in as a young man. In his version of the story, he saved lives and was a great hero, and everyone is impressed. Then, one day, he meets an old stranger. The man isn't as well dressed, or as influential. As per usual, he proceeds to tell the man about his heroic deeds as a young man.
When he finishes his story the other man is silent for a minute and then says "That can't be true.". The proud man is insulted and begins to get angry at the stranger. He claims to be a hero, and asks how the other man can know for sure that it didn't happen exactly as he claims. The stranger replies that he knows it isn't true because he was there, and HE was the one who saved the proud man.
If it came up twice in standardized testing, odds are somebody knows it!
