Danielle (miakodo) | 5 comments I don't believe the correct author is linked to this book, The Scottish Chiefs.

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/74...

The author linked, Jane Porter, may have a book titled the same (I can't say), but this particular story was published in 1809. The actual author is known as "Miss Jane Porter", shown correctly here: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/81...

If you look at the first link, you can see that it references being written in 1809 in the description, so it clearly isn't supposed to be whatever version was written by "Jane Porter".

Thanks.

Fixed.

Elizabeth | 72 comments The romance novel Jane Porter has some other books attributed to her which clearly aren't hers. Are they the same as your "Miss Jane Porter" or should there be a 3rd disambig?

e.g.

Jenny (narcisse) | 179 comments I see no such post by you in the Librarian Group. Maybe that is why?

Probably, Jenny.

Nanette, it is helpful to link to the book or books in questions, as well as providing the information you want changed.

Michelle Harrison | 10 comments Hi,

Please could 'Consuming Interests' (no ISBN listed) be removed from my books, as it's by the other Michelle Harrison.

Thanks in advance.

Michelle

Kerry (geniusscientist) | 72 comments Also to note: Nanette's "about this author" section seems to be describing one of her books, and not the author herself.

Nanette, you should edit your bio to describe YOU, not your latest work.

Kerry (geniusscientist) | 72 comments Nanette, I added you as a contributor to the already-existing book. Would you please post a list of the other contributors, so that the book info can be completed?

Also, almost all of the librarians here are polite, helpful, and punctual. When you ask a question or make a request, be assured that it will be attended to quickly. They are also all volunteers, so please be nice.

Elizabeth | 72 comments Okay, I'd started moving out all the non-romance Jane Porters as a 3-space, but it appears that they're all by the 2-space author, so I'll merge those profiles. I'm also updating the 2-space profile as I come across biographical information in book descriptions.

One says she's "an English romantic novelist of Irish descent." Wikipedia claims she's Scottish. Thoughts? (She was born in England, moved to Scotland after her father's death, and lived in England again later in her life.)

Danielle (miakodo) | 5 comments Please tell me she's Scottish, and my beloved memories remain pure. ;)

Well, since 'descent' just means her ancestry, which is pretty hard for us to verify either way (without going into serious genealogy), I would just keep it simple.

She was born in England - that makes her English.

Michael | 262 comments According to http://encyclopedia.jrank.org/POL_PRE..., she was born in Durham, England in 1776 and after the death of her father, the family moved to Edinburgh in 1779. At some time prior to 1831, the Porters were living in Surrey and Jane Porter ultimately ended her days in Bristol.

She may have written about the Scots, but she sounds English to me.

Abcdarian | 19978 comments Just wanted to mention that I found Nanette's note (re message 5) that she thought was going TO a librarian; it was actually in a space for a note FROM a librarian: http://www.goodreads.com/book/combine...

I have sent a message that I hope explains why it appeared her note was ignored.
