The Sword and Laser discussion
Introduction and welcome thread!
Hi Sam,welcome to the S&L group.
Hello,My name is Roger and I am brand new to this group. I've been reading science fiction and fantasy since I found the genre about 20 years ago (I'm 33) and I really enjoy it. I definitely read more fantasy than science fiction, but I'd have to say my all time favorite book is Ender's Game (I have zero intention of seeing the movie)
Hi everyone!I'm C.V. Dreesman, a Goodreads Author and brand new to the group. My page goes over some of my influences and how I first became a fan of fantasy and sci-fi. I read a lot of fantasy (yes, Salvatore I'm looking at you and your cohorts :) ), and was a DM at GenCon when they were just beginning to pitch ideas for Dragonlance and books for Forgotten Realms. I look forward to some interesting discussions about my favorite books/films/tv!
Hi Roger and C.V.,welcome to the S&L group.
I've been a member for a while now and I'm taking the plunge into the forum.I have followed Tom and Veronica since the first year of Buzz Out Loud.I started reading science fiction back in the 1950's when I was a child. While I have read fantasy also SF was my obsession.
Hi Terry, welcome to the S&L group.

Hi Riddhi, and welcome to the S&L group.
hello, i've been on goodreads for 4 years and just now got around to joining my first group..and it looks like the BEST one. i've been a sci-fi & dystopian fan since i was a kid but only got into fantasy a few years ago AND HOW. i tore through LOTR, then all of the Sword of Truth and am getting to the last few of the Wheel of Time series.. i read the FAQ and have to admit it Lemmed A Dance with Dragons but loved the 4 GOT books prior. i have read about half of the books on the group's list and will make my way through all of the ones i haven't. i recently got an advanced copy of Red Rising by Pierce Brown, which is due to release Feb 2014. i HIGHLY recommend it. It's a laser book. I live in Austin, TX , home to Austin Books & Comics, Book People Independent bookstore, Ernest Cline (author of Ready Player One) and Bruce Sterling!
Hey everyone,I joined the group not too long ago, but have stayed fairly silent. I guess I just thought now would be a good idea to introduce myself quickly. So hi, I'm Jenny! I'm an avid reader and read just about anything. I discovered Sword and Laser when they did the YouTube show. And thanks to them my to read list has gotten a lot bigger. (Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, I only have so much time!)

Good thing. Better to have too much.
Good thing. Better to have too much.
Hi Niki and Jennifer, welcome to the S&L group.
Hi all, I'm Anthony. I've been listening to the podcast for just a few months and love it. I'm reading a lot more now. My favorite books are Dune, The Princess Bride and I really liked The People stories tho they are a little depressing. Among my favorites from what I've read recently after hearing about it on the podcast is Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.

I suppose I'll just have to resign myself to the fact that I'll finish the the to-read pile.
Anyway, thanks for the welcomes. And I also welcome you, Anthony!
Hello, My name's Darimi. I saw a couple youtube videos of this community last year, and joined Goodreads earlier this year not knowing the S&L had a group here till recently. I only actually started reading books (not counting school textbooks...) late last year, which is quite late I suppose, better late than never though =) I've always liked a good story, regardless of the medium; as far as books go though, my to-read list is starting to pile up...
Hi Anthony and Darimi, welcome to the S&L group.
Hi Dominic, welcome to the S&L group.
Hello,I'm Harry and I'd like to introduce my book titled In the Lucid Dream Future: Beyond Malanchthon. I'm hoping to find some Beta Readers to check it out and give advice. Most of all, I want to get the idea out.
Hi Harry and Chris, welcome to the S&L group.
Hello my name is Jeroen. Been reading fantasy for a while and have been struggling to find new titles. The quality of the shows and what from what I've seen in the discussions gives me high hopes that I can draw on the lot of you for continued inspiration. If I'd have to choose a favourite author it'd be Terry Pratchett since I have no paperback that's as worn as my edition of Night Watch.
Hi Jeroen, welcome to the S&L group.
I found my way here from Veronica's mentions in the Vaginal Fantasy group. Evidently, my virtual and literal stack of "to read" titles just isn't big enough. I am a really big fan of Robin Hobb, Laurie R. King, Tamora Pierce, and Elizabeth Peters/Barbara Michaels.
Hi, I'm new to this site. I love both sci-fi and fantasy. I've completed a sci-fi novel that is currently going through the editing process. My favorite fantasy writer is Terry Brooks and his Sword of Shannara series - though more of his earlier stuff. I also loved Frank Herbert's Dune series and works by Robert Heinlein. I hope to be a thoughtful contributor to this group. Thanks.
Hi everyone,I'm Nadine. I mainly read fantasy and science fiction. On the odd occasion I try something different.
I'm looking forward to the interview with Peter V Brett :)
Hi Jenn, welcome to the S&L group.
Hi John, welcome to the S&L group.
Hi Mark, welcome to the S&L group.
Hi Nadine, welcome to the S&L group.
Hi! My name is Priscila and I've been listening to the podcast for more then an year, and I decided to finally join in the discussion. I've always been a big fantasy fan, and after Firefly (and this podcast) I've become obsessed with sci-fi as well! I still hold Harry Potter as my favorite books, and I love books, much the the HP series, that have strong world building and diversity.
Hi Priscilla, welcome to the S&L group.
Greetings. My name is Jo, and I'm actually a second-generation geek as both my parents love scifi and board games. I love both fantasy and science fiction, but I find lately I'm much pickier about my fantasy than my scifi. My working favorite all-around author right now is probably Lois McMaster Bujold. I was raised on Anne McCaffrey and Asimov. So far Jim Butcher's Dresden Files are the only urban fantasy I've been able to really get into. I've been watching/listening to the show for a while now and figured it was time to start participating here.
Hi Joanna, welcome to the S&L group.
Hey, My name is David. Huge geek and I have to thank my uncles for introducing me to all things fantasy and sci fi. Top best things I love to do our reading and exploring. Currently reading the Song of Ice and Fire series. Hope to make some fellow friends here.
Hi David, welcome to the S&L group.
