My name is Adam Christopher, and I'm the author of Empire State. I'm a newcomer to Sword and Laser, although from what I've heard so far this looks like exactly the kind of podcast I've been looking for - a couple of other book and writing podcasts I used to regularly listen to have sadly vanished.
Also just wanted to say a quick thanks for the mention in the latest episode!

I discovered Sword and Laser about a year ago, digging around for some book podcasts for suggestions on new stuff to read.
I've always been a huge fan of science fiction, fantasy and horror, so I'm pretty sure the S&L community's the place for me! I've been lurking around her for a bit, but decided to dive in.
I've been a podcaster some time with the Bloody Good Horror Podcast (http://www.bloodygoodhorror.com/bgh/p...) and the 1951 Down Place Podcast. After listening to Tom and Veronica for the last year, they inspired me to start my own podcast called the 'Dad and his Weird Friends Book Podcast' which is now put out by Bloody Good Horror!

I've been following S&L since the beginning, coming in through following all the Revision 3 podcasts and Mahalo daily. I'm a Tolkien and fantasy reading/RPG fanatic, along with music and PC/console gaming. If I'm not reading a book, I'm listening one in the car driving into lovely downtown Cleveland, Ohio or listening on my iPod on the trails while getting in a run.
I'm just now getting on the forums, but I appreciate all the time, efforts, entertainment, and recommendations that Sword and Laser provides. What a wonderful community!

Just started listening to Sword and Laser a few weeks ago, and I can't believe that the first book to read is set in my hometown of Edinburgh - with the first scenes minutes from where I grew up. I'm really looking forward to seeing all the feedback from everyone on this book.

I realy like the show and it helps me find new and interesting books to "read" (listen to) and it helps me widen my sci-fi/fantasy horizon

I hope to have some fun here, maybe even frolic around in some of the discussion threads and possibly even pick up one of the books and read it along with everyone! It's very difficult to remember all the books you've read though when you want to add everything to Goodreads when first joining....

I've always read Biographies but my love of reading is often sidelined for Movies and Video Games.
2012 is the year I get back into reading and the podcast really helps keep up the Enthusiasm!
Looking forward to expanding my Library both Digitral and Physical!

Been listening for a couple months now and first time posting. Learned about this through Tekzilla.
Really like sic-fi and fantasy for a while now.

New guy in the group, joined some time ago and didn't get around to posting till now.
21 year old guy from Denmark of all places, love the more gritty fantasy which seems to be a trend at the moment. Favorite authors at the moment would be Abercrombie and Martin (Yeah yeah I know, traditional).
Really looking forward to reading and sharing some good books with all of you.
Søren

I look forward to getting to know everyone and being exposed to some authors I would not have read otherwise.

I love the podcast and am always up for giving and receiving book recommendations. In a rut now trying to figure out where to put my focus now so rather than making a decision I just sit and stare at my "to read" queue and book shelf.

I just joined the discussion group though I've been listening to the podcast for a while. This is going to be the first time I actually read a book along with the group though so heres to hoping I enjoy it.
I started reading sci-fi back when I was 11. The first was a Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Verne.
My dad bought me several classic novels when I was 11 and Journey was the only one to really catch my interest and science fiction and fantasy has since claimed my soul.
Glad I found this group and heres to hoping I love Rule 34.

That's it!
PS: I'm not a native English speaker, so don't be harsh with me If I make some grammar errors D:

Hugely enjoying all the new books and authors the podcast has been introducing me to in the 6 months I've been listening to it. Hope to get synced up and read one of the picks along with the podcast eventually. So many to catch up on!

James Jackson

I'm Elianara, and I'm from Finland. I have been listening to the podcast for a couple of months now, and finally decided to join the goodreads forum. I like both sword and laser, but I'm more into the fantasy side of things. Among my favorite authors are Elizabeth Moon, Patricia Briggs and JD Robb.
Currently reading: book, don't know, just read Raven's Strike by Patricia Briggs, haven't chosen my next book from that enormous TBR pile I have.
In audio format I have Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie

I started listening S&L since November last year so I'm a little behind catching up with the most recent books. I've been a fan of Veronica Belmont since the first episode of Qore and then I heard of S&L through another podcast. I've always been reading sci-fi and fantasy books for a while and when I heard about this group I decided to give it a try.

I've been lurking here since I was made aware of the group via the Nerdist™ podcast with Veronica and have finally caught up on the backlog of S&L podcasts. Having received a shiny new Kindle Fire for the holiday and added the Audible app, I now have hopes of eventually catching up on my reading backlog.
I enjoy SF from David Weber all the way back to E. E. Smith; and Fantasy from urban to epic.

My name is Darren and have been listening to the podcast for a few episodes now. I'm an avid listener to Tech News Today and finally had to check out the S&L podcast after hearing Tom's references. I listened to my first podcast midway through Elantris and heard a great discussion about religion within the book. This one episode caused me to purchase the book and I'm extremely glad that I did! I recently finished it and throughly enjoyed the book. I'm looking forward to all future books and discussions!

I'm into Fantasy books by authors such as George R.R. Martin, Steven Erikkson, and Robin Hobb. Comic books mostly X-men stuff and playing RPGs on PS3

I am from Oklahoma, a senior in high school, about to graduate, and i am going to be playing football in college. I love reading, games, and heard about the sword and laser from the Scott Johnson on his many podcasts. I am currently reading a game of thrones, the hunger games trilogy, and world war z. I am looking forward to being a part of this book club!

I was going to post something about sci-fi, fantasy, genre fiction fandom and what books I like but so much instantly came to mind that all I got was a migraine.
So off to a cool, dark room for me.
And.... Hello.

Really into sci-fi/fantasy books and games. Some of my favorite games are Elder Scrolls and the KOTOR series. My favorite authors include Stephen King, JK Rowling, JRR Tolkien, George RR Martin, Douglas Adams, etc. Been trying to get into writing more lately, currently working on two stories/books.
Glad to find a group thats right in my wheelhouse!

I've been reading SF&F for more than 40 years. Early favourites were the Lensman and Skylark series by E.E 'Doc' Smith and of course the YA fiction of Heinlein, but also CS Lewis, Edward Norton, Andre Norton (no relation), Edgar Eager, Tolkien of course, and so many others.
I've been reading ebooks for a few years now, mostly from purchasing the output of Baen Books through Webscriptions, which has been a great innovation (recently recast as http://www.baenebooks.com/ under the heading Monthly Book Bundles, which I think is lacking imagination as a brand).
My favourite authors from them have been David Weber, David Drake, Wen Spencer.... In fact too many to list.
Anyway, looking forward to sharing and interacting with everyone here.
All the best,
Phil

My favourite books are ones with dirty words and rude things in them. It started when I read the Machine Gunners in primary school. I also read the Hobbit back then, but I can't really remember it, and the Spanish Letters too, neither of them very sweary.
Nowadays I read fantasy books on my kindles, and share anything that sounds remotely rude/prejudiced/homoerotic with all my friends on Facebook. Nobody pays any attention. Sometimes my mum gives me a row.
My recents favourite reads have come from Jabercrombie, GRR Martin, Daniel Suarez, and Puzo.
Looking forward to being everybody's new best friend.
Angus

I live in the sunny California!
I play the violin, piano, and the drum set. I enjoy all types of music.
I love the murder/thriller novels the best. I look forward to being a part of this group!

Currently re-reading some classic Frank Herbert, The Dosadi Experiment. Some of Herbert's non-Dune books stand the test of time and are seriously underrated. If Veronica and Tom are ever tempted to do a classic sci-fi book as a book pick, The Dosadi Experiment would enlighten more than a few readers, is a fast-moving gripping story and it isn't even that long a book.

I have been listening to S&L for a little over a year now I guess but just decided to bite the bullet and join Goodreads.
My favorite book is 1984. My favorite authors are Patrick Rothfuss, George RR Martin, Douglas Adams, Isaac Asimov and Robin Hobb.
I also love video games and camping/hiking. I am looking forward to being a part of the group.

I've just started listening and am enjoying it muchly (if that's a word).
At the moment, I'm working my way through all the Terry Pratchett Discworld books again(I'm up to Feet of Clay so far). I've read them all before, but I just thought it would be to go through them again.
Other than that I read loads of fantasy, not so much of a Science Fiction read, and like a good victorian/steampunk romp...and anything that catches my imagination.

I first listened to the podcast when I heard it plugged in on TWIT. I listened to the podcast joined at the start of rule 34.

I'm both a newbie on Goodreads and S&L, so go easy!
Favourite authors include Tolkien and now George R R Martin, and Douglas Coupland, Michael Crichton and Douglas Adams.
Looking forward to the debate and recommendations.
