I actually started very early... I remember reading those simple Ladybird books when I was around 3 or 4 - Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Puss'n'boots, Thumbelina, Jack and the Beanstalk, etc. My first "real" books were The Magician's Nephew by C.S Lewis (prequel to the Chronicles of Narnia) and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone when I was 7... still love both series!
Harry Potter at 7! I was preening on the fact that my son at 8 would be the youngest HP reader.
Kudos to you Karan.
Kudos to you Karan.
Well I started reading somewhat late. I read a lot of Blyton's book when I was around 12. Then I didn't read much for about 5 years and started again when I was about 17. The author who got me going was Coelho
i guess i am the only person to start reading at the age of 22.. All the persons over here are good readers than me.. my first novel was harry potter... but now i feel that i have wasted my childhood without reading any novels:-(
Sibikaran wrote: "i guess i am the only person to start reading at the age of 22.. All the persons over here are good readers than me.. my first novel was harry potter... but now i feel that i have wasted my childho..."sibi i started at 24 oly.
I guess i started of with Noddy (My fav ;-))tinkel (another fav of mine),Archies ,Tintin & Asterix . These are to name a few. Actually i was not a real reader if i can consider in comparison with my friends. It so happen i got books as gifts. Hence some how pushed myself to read. That way got into the habit of reading novels.Tho this happened pretty late may be when i was 19 or so. Now i guess i try to read as much as possible as time permits. I should also admit there were times when i have not read a single book for a year or so.Ken Follet who i discovered of late has got me hooked again i just love the way he narrates a story............

The fact that a person has started reading is what counts, not the age when one started reading.
oliver twist when i was 9. Actually the whole class had to read it. They even made us watch the movie and asked us to note down the differences.

he has, but nowadays he is busy with school and homework, and whatever time available on computer he prefers to play games.
Since childhood, Bindi Babes collection, Jacqueline Wilson, No Harry Potter! Recently matured into a proper book worm.

I really liked it at that age. Charles Dickens starts off sadly and ends on a happy note. So as a kid, I was happy at the end :)

@Numey :) In fact it made me read Oliver Twist with more interest in my English subject :),Not a big fan of Charles Dickens these days though.
I can't recollect when I started reading but surely sometime in college and it started with alister Maclean series "night without an end" and a lot of other ones. Then was dale Carnegie series and then I left reading !! Untill "alchemist" happened, and then I started off on paulo cohelo series and before I realised I was writing too! That's what a book like alchemist can do to you. Books can change life, if not they atleast end up changing the way you look at it..
The first book I remember reading at the age of 11 is Vishakantam which is in Telugu. Before that I remember some other stories but can't remember their names. First novel for me in English is Stars Shine Down by Sidney Sheldon.
I remember borrowing english books from other grade kids during my primary school days. I think a full book must be Ponniyin Selvan, when I was around 11.
I started reading somewhere in my pre-teens. The first book I remember reading was The Hobbit and subsequently, The Lord of the Rings. I have little love for my brother, but it was he who bought me those books one Christmas and for that at least I should be grateful to him.
Used to read Aesop's Fables when I was 4-5 years old, but really got started with novels on my 9th birthday. Someone gifted me "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", and from there I picked one book after the other.
I started reading at the very age, when I had just learned to read! And have grown the appetite for reading that my parents couldn't fulfill most of the time..so I devised a trick, to write myself :)I still remember the first story I wrote in which I have miss-spelled the joint words, as I still didn't know how to write such words!
I started reading when I was 4 or 5, don't remember the exact first book I read, but I loved reading Aesop's fables and Panchtantra over and over in that age.
