The first novel that I read was one night at the call centre by Chetan Bhagat at the age of 13. Although I have read Panchatantra literally series when I was younger.
My affair with books began at the age of 13,it was my maternal uncle who introduced me to the world of books by gifting me a copy of Alchemist. I used to read all shorts of Hindi comics /magazines before that.
I do not remember the age but I know I was very young(maybe 10 or so). The book was 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea by Jules Verne.
I didn't read again after that till last year when I picked up the habit once again.
I had forgotten the name of the book yet the vivid scenes of the book lived lively in my mind. When I saw the book again(at a flea market), The memories overwhelmed me. Needless to say, I purchased it and had a joyful ride in the memory lane.

I remember when my mother had gifted me a book of Panchatantra. Thank you for reminding me.
My serious reading started very late, like 24 or so, my first book at that time was Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
When I was 5 my mother would often read to me as she herself was a voracious reader. Soon after that, I started reading comics book and monthly magazines like Champak, Nanhe Samrat, and many others on my own. We didn't have any book store selling English novels in my town so I never read Nancy Drew or Enid Blyton as a kid for the matter of fact. Although seeing my interest, my mother would often bring me Hindi books like story collections of Tenali Rama, Akbar Birbal, Panchatantra, Jatak Kathaye and many more. I still have a book which is a collection of Leo Tolstoy's short stories translated to Hindi. I was completely hooked to books and I still am. So the first English novel I ever read was 'Wings of Fire' at the age of 12 which I had won in a debate competition. Since then, my reading journey has been unstoppable. :)
My reading habit was inculcated at the age of 7 when I got hooked on to comics - pinky, billu, chacha Chaudhary, champak, nandan, etc. and the famous Amar Chitra Katha 😀 In a small town in M.P. there weren’t any local libraries or stores with English books. I read English story books from school library but did not register any title or author at that time. At around 10, I read my first complete but abridged edition of the classic, ‘Great Expectations’ gifted by my Dad. Followed by ‘Oliver Twist’ and ‘Robinson Crusoe’. I loved ‘Robinson Crusoe’ out of those three 😊
The first original book , maybe same year, I read was ‘Adventures of Rusty ‘. I grew up among brothers so I mostly read Hardy boys and some Agatha Christy novels in my pre- teens and teens when I visited my Grandparents’ city library. I came to know much later in my late twenties about the existence of Mills n boon novels after I got married 😅
In the late teens, I read ‘Godfather’ and ‘Gone with the wind’.
After that, reading continued but could not devote much time to it.
I am in my early 40s now. I picked up reading in 2013 again.
Sorry, I guess this looks like more of an introduction and blog post:)
As far as I recall, I started with Amar Chitra Katha and Indrajal comics in school at the age of about 8-9 ( can’t be exact about these things ), moved on to Hardy Boys, Enid Blyton, Alistair Maclean and the classics by age of 15-16. First book that I remember reading in it’s entirety was The Billion Dollar Ransom, a Hardy Boys book by Franklin Dixon ( Now I know that it’s a pseudonym) .
I started reading at the age of 21 which is not a very proud thing to say as most people started reading while I was busy playing marbles all-day long :-). My first book was The Kite Runner which I finished twice. Now as nobody plays marbles at my age so focusing on books ;-).
I started reading kids supplements that came with Tamil newspapers and Ambuli Mama( something like Amar chithra katha) quite early - 5th grade maybe. Then to cheap Tamil crime novels say in 9th grade and from there started reading serious Tamil literature by 11th grade. Started reading English novels in College - at about age 17. First book was Jeffrey Archer's Shall We Tell The President.
The first book I read was The Naughtiest Girl in the School by Enid Blyton in 6th grade. After that around 10th grade I read Life is what you make it by Preeti Shenoy.
Back in sixth grade, English subject had two parts one part is a normal text book and the other contained novel series, my teacher would read those novels and the kids use their finger to follow the progress. She read Sherlock Holmes, great expectations, Gulliver and other novels but Great expectations was the first book I feel in love with, Estella was my first book crush. Anyway I didn't actively pursue this habit as I couldn't access novels & we used to play cricket, & watch tv in our free time.I earnestly started reading after watching papertowns trailer, I liked it& and discovered it was based on a novel and I ordered that book and I was so naive that I didn't read the epilogue as I thought it wasn't a part of the novel. Harry potter, narnia, and it goes on
I started reading when I was around 10 -11 years old. I was hooked up on Enid Blyton. I dont remember my first book but I remember the one that I enjoyed the most -- The Wishing Chair :)
I started reading at the age of 11 with Goosebumps and the famous five series. I then moved on to harry potter, nancy drew and hardy boys. I also fell in love with Agatha christie and sherlock holmes when I was about 14.
I started reading around 11, the first books i started reading were Enid Blyton books. Then gradually i moved to Hardy boys, goosebumps and Roal Dahl. Unfortunately I discontinued my reading habit after the age of 15 or 16. But I've rediscovered my passion for reading for about a year now.
Don't remember when I exactly started reading, seeing that I was reading around age 3. My most prominent books were goosebumps when I was 5, the Boxcar Children Series when I was 6, and The Kylie Jean series when I was 7. I was definitely a library goer who brought stacks of books home! (And of course I read everyone else's books too!)
I loved reading when I was 5-6 years old. I used to read a lot of books then, but more than reading I loved stories in general. I loved listening to all kinds of stories. Then when I was around 11-12 years old I used to read books like goosebumps. But my reading habit slowly went and I stoped reading entirely then for a few years.
When I turned 14, I was introduced to fantasy through Harry Potter and I read the mortal instruments series, which was my first introduction to ya. After that I’ve been reading consistently. :)
The first books I remember reading outside of school were the The Famous Five books by Enid Blyton (seems everyone's read those!) I was 5 or 6, I think. My favourite author is a bit too hard to narrow down but certainly Charles Dickens, I live very close to where he used to do a lot of his writing and that adds a little charm!
Uhhh, this is bringing back memories. I became an avid reader when I was 7, I think? My mom used to buy me those thin books which usually where sold in roadside book stalls. The first actual book I read was probably goosebumps, when I was 11? I was a huge fan of that series. I don't really have a fav author, but to name a few I'd trust to give me a good time are Celeste Ng, Ananda Neelakantan and Jodi Picoult, maybe.
im not sure age but Amar Cbitra Kathas followed by all the DC and Marvel comics. There's Archie and gang too. Strangely currently i can't stand graphic novels.
I do not remember the age because I got my love for reading from my mother. So, when I was young I use to read Champak . But my first novel in English was Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. I got my library copy for this book when I was in 4th standard. I still love this book.
I started reading mainstream books pretty early. I had finished most of the Famous Five, Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series before I crossed primary classes. Before that I used to read all the children's magazines available. I was always huddled at my school's library trying to read as much as possible. Even though I had read all the Enid Blyton and Agatha Christie books before, the Harry Potter series was a benchmark to my reading journey. The fire was already ignited.. and the HP series just made sure it never stopped burning.
I started at 19. For one of my college projects. My first book was by Enid Blyton though I don't remember the title.
At age eight I started Harry Potter. Before that, I used to read Enid Blyton's books, and continued reading those even after I had started HP.
I don't quite remember but my mom and grandma say I first read a Panchatantra book at the age of 7. But the one I remember the most is Tenali Raman's story at 12. ( I believe my mom and grandma more)
all kids books available in India :Champak ,Chandamama ,Nandan ,Tinkle in childhood ,then actual books of Nancy Drew series ,I was obsessed with them in school time ,Then Enid blyton - famous five ,secret seven...
I used to feel shy to borrow Nancy Drew books from our school library as usually girls were reading it. Crazy to think of it now as an adult. hahaha.
I was so obsessed with reading Nancy Drew that I used to keep it inside my textbook and pretend i was studying ,and go upstairs in my room and read it quietly ,Once my mom came to know of this ,and she scolded me .I remember a character was called Mad dog Hayashi
I think I started reading Enid Blyton's books in the school library at around 7-8 years old.And Champak, Tinkle during the train journey to my grandparents' house.

It was enjoyable to read. I even went onto borrow library books from female classmates. I badly wanted to read!
I have kept novels inside school text books and pretended to study. Once, my dad caught me. Hahaha. Luckily he just smiled and asked me to study. He can get angry sometimes. It was a close shave.
I used to read Nany Drew too! (mostly because my best friend pushed me to). And Sweet Valley High. But the book that really made me a bookworm was - sorry to be a cliche - a Harry Potter book. What's not cliche is that I started with the 3rd book (Prisoner of Azkaban, a summer reading recommendation for my cousin from her school). I just picked it off her shelf and was hooked from page 1. I was 14
I had to leave for the airport a little later, and bought my own copy to read on the flight! I'm glad I started from the third book in the series - it's really good and got me more curious about the first two. Don't know if the first one would've been able to do that
