Wow, a great book to start, Manju :)
I have already told about my book in this thread (which was a book on Tom and Jane - abrother sister duo who played passing the milk bottle, and milk spilt and mother scolded .... at the age of 5 or so)
My son's first book was Chuffy the steam engine at the age of 3 when he could barely read

I have my mother to thank for this.she is a science teacher and showed me a billion worlds existing in this world itself.i read my first book when i was studying in 4th standard.i was home sick.in those days,in rural kerala, some people would carry books from library to homes to instill the hobby of reading in children. My first book was sherlock holmes.but i got was hitched to reading by 'paavangal', a malayalam translation of 'les miserables'.
My first novel was by Premchand's Godaan nd i think i was arnd 8-9 yrs old that time.. My mom loves to read so i had access to a lot of them. Before that i used to read short stories, children's books, fairy tales. After that Famous five, Nancy drew and whatever was available in the school library. Jumped to Harry Potter. But the major event was when my brother bought Dan Brown's Da vinci code for me when i was 14. I had a hard time understanding the words, had to refer to the dictionary a lot. But yea no matter how much time i took to read it, i fell in love with it, my First Love. I still thank my brother for it (*silently :P)
At the age of 9 or so.. I picked up this book called, 'Letters from a Father to His Daughter' written by Chacha Nehru (that I used to call him), to his daughter, obviously. Actual reason for starting to read that was because of the cartoons and illustrations of dinosaurs and all.. Honestly, i don't remember whether i did complete reading it or not!
I started reading *seriously* at the age of 21 (just 5 years back). I was not very avid reader before that. I was not able to finish any book as I never really developed the habit of reading. I never borrowed any book from the library but I remember the first book I borrowed from the library was "Veronica Decides To Die - Paulo Coelho". This was the first book which I seriously read and completed it but the book from which I really started reading (ignoring all the chetan bhagat books) avidly was "Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson". I took months to finish this book but I did complete it and I loved that book.
I probably started reading novels when I was 12 and the first book was 36 Collected Short Stories by Jeffrey Archer. I then went on read the ten to twelve of his books that I had at home and then moved on to Ashwin Sanghi and Amish Tripathi.
I've been reading since as far back as I can remember... The first book I read was probably 'The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales'
when I was around 7-8 years old. But the first book whose story I still remember clearly is Enid Blyton's 'Five Get Into Trouble' from the Famous Five series which I read when I was about 9 years old... At first my parents who encouraged me to read more, saw their son begin to devour books... The biggest mistake they made was buying me a kindle... that was when the madness began... I read while I ate, I read before I slept, I read while my parents were asleep, I never stopped READING... when my parents ban me from books I set my alarm under my pillow for 2:00 A.M just to read while they sleep. Reading has become an essential part of life for me...

Started at the age of 8 with Heidi, followed by Enid Blyton (Noddy, St Claire, Malory tower, Famour five etc) to Hardy boys by the age of 14.

An excellent book. Heidi made me fall in love with reading and Alps.
Earliest recollection I have is of reading Enid Blyton's Famous Five when I was about 8 or 9. Read my first McLean in class 6 - HMS Ulysses.
I learned to read at 2... used to try to read my father's novels so he he began teaching me to read at 2...was reading Enid Blyton books by 5
I started reading when I was 13. I already had a habit of reading books, but when I turned I got into novels. My first book was Moby Dick, The Whale by Herman Melville.
I started my reading at 13 with my father book. The Story of My Experiments With Truth in tamil though. It started it all and once I got my job and started to read a lot
I started reading books (Well, school books are different. They're from 2 and a half yrs) when I was around 13. Actually, I wanted to show others that I read books, at first. I was then in a residential school. I took 3 Assamese novels there after the vacation. But lo!! I fell in love with books when I read the first book named Nrisanga Mrityudut by Ranju Hazarika .
Then, after that, I tried the first English novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens a year later.
I started reading when I was 5. My first book was 'The Prince and The Pauper' which I received as a gift from school. I just fell in love with reading after that and was soon hunting around for books I could read. My mother, who is a voracious reader as well, had plenty of books and encouraged me to read anything that caught my fancy. From then to now, reading has always been my constant. :)
Hmm... Let's see. I started when I was six-ish. The first book I read was a novel by Ibn-e-safi's. Don't remember which one. after that, I read every book of his that my father brought from library. I have immense respect and liking for his work. Later, I would read Kids' magazines and books. Ah, nostalgia!
I guess , I was 22-23 years when I started reading.I never used to read a book but by brother made me aware on how fascinating this world is.
And few years back, I came to know about this platform.
A good experience I must say
I think the first book that sent me spiraling down to this world of books was the Percy Jackson series. Before that I've read those available free on iBooks library. But Percy Jackson led me on to the a new terrain of fiction. Some credit also goes to JKR for her in-depth writing styles in Cuckoo's Calling and The Casual Vacancy.

so what was the first novel that you loved?"
Hi Manju,
The First Novel that I loved was a Hindi one "Pila Gulab" by Surendra Mohan Pathak read at the age of around 8
in English, it was 'The Sign of Four' by Sir Arthur Conan Doyale which I read at the age of 9
I have been reading since as far back as I can remember.. probably 5-6 yrs. my first books were Enid blyton I guess
The first book l can remember reading was a large but thin book , hard backed , glossy cover ,beautiful coloured illustrations ( not cartoons ) - Sleeping Beauty . I was then in second class , if I remember right .I remember the Noddy series too , Priyanka , but I read them later . Enid Blyton I think ?
My first book was: Good to Great by Jim Collins! I remember that I read it two times and really made me change my life!I wrote this article talking about how and why books changed - continually changing - my life: https://medium.com/@guilhermepetrin/t...
Peace (:
My first book was Moby Dick when I was 12. But I got interested in reading when I read Harry Potter when I was 15.
hmm way back remember reading comics as a kid and before that read may be some other kids periodicals or some Nancy Drew or Famous Five book but don't remember which one. But then I read 'The Guide' by R. K. Narayan for my school in 1999 but didn't start serious English reading till I got my hands on 'Five Points Someone' by Chetan Bhagat in 2006 and since then I haven't stopped reading and I just hope to keep on reading.
The first book I read was Good To Great by Coolin Jim at the age of 13. It was hell boring but my elder brother kept a close eye over me to finish it faster and improve my vocab.
I was 9 when I started reading... Can't remember the first book though. I just remember that my English was poorer than most others in class. So while they read books with protagonists who were 9, I read books with a lot more pictures and with protagonists who were 6 or 7 years. I don't mind it because now it seems that among my friends I am the only one who still reads (and I no longer read about 7 year olds :p )
