Lol I just remembered when my cousin from Canada came here I had to remember to rephrase my sentences and talk slower. Did anyone ever notice how fast Jhb people talk? If I remember right the one sentence that completely got him baffled was "Kassam that laarnie is such a cake" and he gave me a skeef look when I asked him for the whatchya-macalit.I nominate izit
What's a 'cake'?I was hanging out with an American friend recently and I mentioned the move Hot Fuzz. I said 'the fuzz' was slang for the police. He said, "Oh, like the popo?"
I thought it best to warn him against ever calling a South African policeman that.
So... let them eat CAKE! I know, I know a totally lame joke, particularly for a first post. I'm not sure about the rules of this word nomination, but I suppose if there is anything that exemplifies and encompasses "truly" South African perhaps the word for the month should be MANDELA?M
Just wanted to clarify- was CHOP nominated? IF not I nominate it as well so we can go for a slang/food theme. Well excluding MANDELA who is clearly not edible- Or is he...
Update:
IZIT
CAKE
MANDELA
JAMMIE
CHOP
Poll will go up tonight, so you still have a bit of time to nominate :)
Please check if I have everything!

Then we take the word we voted on and read a book starting with a letter in the word, or a author's name/surname that starts with the letter.
For example:
Z -
U - Uglies
L - Lover Eternal
U -
Nominations will be open until 10th of September.
