I have no shamr about my bookishness...and well aware that makes me a dork...whatever...I'm not hurtin anyone doin it (well, maybe when I read all day and all night my bf might sometimes get offended if I don't come up for air ot say hi - or more likely don't make him dinner:))

Ok...ok...I'm a geek :) and if being a geek means I get to read these fun books and share them with you ladies then I LOVE BEING A GEEK!
Oh yes, I'm a really big nerd too. I move a lot for work and as soon as I get settled in, I find out where the library is. I actually have two library cards (the city I live in is bizarrely in two counties and we can go to both libraries) and frequently consider getting a third that I qualify for because I work in Seattle which has its own separate city library system. And like Alicia, I relished picking out classes in college.I just finished reading Beyond Heaving Bosoms (another sign--I read lit crit even though I'm no longer in school). While it doesn't get into the chick lit subgenre of romance as I'd hoped, there was a section that immediately made me think of the challenges. The authors have an amusing list of things to look for on a romance novel cover (starts on p. 172). They also write about cover trends like long, cascading hair and headless people.

Don't Cry for Yesterday by Deborah Kent
This subject of this book is somewhat similar to the novel I am attempting to write (I totally failed NaNoWriMo, but I'm going to try again while I'm on break from school), so when I came across this on Amazon, I just had to get it. I was curious to see how the author handled the subject matter, since it's something I really haven't read much about. Reminded me a lot of the Lurlene McDaniels books I loved when I was younger.

Nicole--I wish the libraries around here were like yours! For the past 3 years, I couldn't even get a library card because I lived in the unincorporated part of my town. Now I can get a library card where I live now, but I'm too lazy to go to the DMV and get my license updated!
Suzanne--I too am lazy about changing my address (esp. since I know I'm just going to move again), but the libraries here allow you to bring in your lease, electric bill, etc. to prove where you live. Maybe yours does too. I'd probably stage some sort of daily one-woman protest if they said I couldn't have a card!!

Nicole, is your library part of a reciprocating library system? Mine is and I love it!
If you don't know what that is, it means I can use my card to go to other libraries in the county to borrow books. Or I can go through the website and request books from tons of other libraries in Michigan and they send them to my library. They're only two week check outs, but I usually don't have a problem finishing them before the time is up. The only downer is if it's a new book, you have to wait longer to be able to request it for some reason.

The best way to describe it for me was that it wasn't bad...but it wasn't great. I enjoyed Wedding Girl so much more than this one. It was a very banal story that passed the time, but had it not been in my challenge, I may have set it aside for another book. It's good to pick up if you don't have anything else to read, but it's nothing I would rush out and recommend.

I'm such a sucker for these types of books. The behavior and mannerisms of the celebrities gets pretty unbelievable sometimes. I know it's fiction, but the idea had to come from somewhere....
