Yes, same author on Lit Map. But also you have to use the same list every time over at Flashlight Worthy.

Hi Rebekah: I'm not sure if you still have a points posting question now that the book title has been straightened out. Please post a new message if you still have a question. Thanks! -Krista

Lets assume this hypothetical book was claimed for task 20.1 Monsterfest Redux. You would receive 20 task points + 15 combo points.
The post should be formatted as follows (assuming the actual book met all of the criteria):
Task 20.1 Monsterfest Redux: The Witch of Portobello by Paulo Coelho
+20 Task
+15 Combo (20.6, Brazil; 10.3, 10/5/1947; 20.2 Banned book)
+5 jumbo (602 pages)
Task Total: 40 points
Grand total: 40 points
Are series points limited to just one series or can you claim them for more than one series? Is something like the example below okay?Example:
5 series style pts. for a Harry Potter book (20.2)
5 series style pts. for a Charlaine Harris series book (20.5)

Perfect explanation Liz, thanks!

Hi Colleen: I'm not sure if I understand your question. You can read as many books in as many different series as you like. You'll only get the incremental increase in Series Style points when you claim points for books in the SAME series. (Is that what you were asking?)
Quoted from the Series Style Point description: "Read a book to complete a task that is part of a series and receive 5 points. Read a book from that same series to complete another task and receive 10 points...and so on."
Using the example you provided above, each of those books would earn 5 Series Style points because they were from different series.
If you were able to work 2 or more books from the same series in then the Series points start going up.
For Example: (Using hypothetical task numbers)
10.1 The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Book 1) = 5 Series Style Points
20.9 The Girl Who Played with Fire (Book 2) = 10 Series Points.
Let me know if you need more info, or if this wasn't really the thrust of your question.
Thanks for the speedy answer! You answered my question. I am reading several different series and just wanted to know if I was limited to only claiming series style points for one series. I'm afraid I didn't phrase it very well.
If I have a question about Reading Thru Time, am I supposed to post it here? I put it in another thread but maybe it's closed?
Rebekah wrote: "If I have a question about Reading Thru Time, am I supposed to post it here? I put it in another thread but maybe it's closed?"You posted it in the correct place (The questions thread in the RtT folder). Since it is a question only Sam & Krista can answer, and they both have full-time jobs, it may take longer than a day or two to get an answer.
Great! No worries. I just thought maybe all the questions were switched to this page. I don't know why I'm getting all needy with this challenge. it's my first one and I guess I just want to do everything exactly "right".And secretly, maybe because it's exciting to exchange with educated adults that love books like I do. I'm home all day with my 3rd graders and dh isn't much of a reader. : )
I used Charles Dickens for my literature map. It gave a list of a bunch of names, including just the name "Dickens" I clicked on that hoping I would only get last nemaes because it is so hard to read with them all on top of another. I did get only last names of authors but they were mostly different authors! Does that mean I can use them and every time I click on Dickens' name, I get some more authors.example - Charles Dickens typed in and these were some of the names I got. Alexandre Dumas, Wilke Collins, Anne Rice, Phillipa Gregory, Graham Greene, Dickens
Click on Dickens and some of the names I got were Alexandre Dumas and Wilke Collins again but Anne Rice, Phillipa Gregory, Graham Greene are gone but now Bill Bryson, Heller and Robbins just to name a few show up. Alexandre Dumas and Wilke collins are still there.

Those authors will be the ones you can use for that task.
For a work with multiple authors, Is it allowable to use any of them for claiming task points or combo points for 10.2 Literature Map and/or 10.3 Fall birthdays? Maybe just use the author listed first on the cover?

A couple of questions please.1) If on of the books we are reading that was originally published in Spanish and has the word Luna in the title even though the book has been translated into English, Can we count that for combo with Harvest Moon task?
2) This may be complicated to explain.
I'll try an example;
Task 20 .5 Freedom Season
The Confessions of Nat Turner(pub 1967)
Points
Task 20
combo 5 (20.7 re-unification USA)
Total points
Can you never use USA again to earn 20 points on the 20.7 task?
Rebekah wrote: "A couple of questions please.1) If on of the books we are reading that was originally published in Spanish and has the word Luna in the title even though the book has been translated into English
I'm going to let Sam answer this question re: Luna being okay as Moon. Out of curiousity, what is the book that you're inquiring about? I'm assuming that when the book was translated 'Moon' didn't make it into the title?

In the example you gave above, you're right you won't be able to use USA again for 20.7 COMBO points.
If you haven't used USA when claiming TASK points for 20.7 yet, you could still use it there.
The basic rule of thumb is that you can use a specific country ONCE for Task, and ONCE for Combo points.
I am currently reading "The Passion of Artemisia" which is about the painter Artemisia Gentileschi. It is a fictional story based on a real person. It tells of her life as a painter. Could I use this book for task 10.6?

I would assume a novel would not work for this task.

Actually the book is titled Eva Luna by Isabel Allende. It is the name of the main character. However since in Spanish, Luna literally means "moon", I wondered if it would count? Are we allowed to use the word moon in any language besides English? Just wondering about those 5 extra points! (smile!)

Hi Rebekah -- We're not ignoring this question. Sam and I are conferring about it. :-) We'll get back with a ruling soon. -Krista

I wasn't worried about you ignoring it, I thought I was the one taking too long to answer your last question about what was the name of the book! I didn't want you to think I was ignoring you! (smile)
I haven't started reading it yet but plan to read it for the multicultural or Unification task anyway. This was just to see if I could get a few extra points and really doesn't need answering until I am ready to post it.

It's fine with me.
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I just wondered: does claiming combo points for a task qualify as completing that task? Does that make sense? I think I might try to complete the whole challenge, but I may only be able to do it with combo points.
Rachel wrote: "Sorry if this has been asked before, but I just wondered: does claiming combo points for a task qualify as completing that task? Does that make sense? To complete the RwS Challege, you'll need to read 20 books. To complete the RtT Challenge you'll need to read 10 books. To complete the whole shebang, you'll need to read 30 books.
Hope that helps! -Krista
Rachel,Combo points are extra points you get like a bonus. So it doesn't count as completing a task unless you read a book for that task.
For example say I read "The Help" for task 20.5 Freedom Season. I get 20pts. It also qualifies for task task 10.3 Fall birthdays because the author has a fall birthday so I can claim 5 bonus points.
However, you can't claim a book for two different tasks. So if i wanted to claim the full 10 points for task 10.3, I have to read another book by an author with a Fall birthday. I hope that makes sense. basically, combo, style, jumbo points are like extra credit and can increase your score.
Also, for the 15.1-15.10 tasks, that is the Reading Through Time challenge which is like a mini game. Those tasks are not included in the Reading With Style bonus points. You still get 15 points for each of those books you read and they have their own bonus points.
What is the minimum Lexile score you want for books? The reason that I ask because I am reading a YA book that has a Lexile score of 810 and am just wondering if I should change the book if the Lexile book score is too low.
I just finished "The Iron King" by Julie Kagawa and I been trying to fit it into Reading With Style. I have it slotted in the Seasonal Reading Challenge in task 25.2 under the Task AS Her Debut. It is a debut book for the author as she was new last year. I have been combing the tasks for Reading With Style and I can't seem to fit it in anywhere. Any suggestions to fit it in would be helpful.

At 810, your book is fine.
I posted a message (see post 85) three days ago and I haven't gotten a response to my question. Plus, no one has posted on this thread in three days. I find that strange. If someone could get back to me on my question, I would appreciate it.
The Iron King takes place in Louisiana. The pig farm is in the swamps of Louisiana and they spend some time in New Orleans, but I think since so much is set in the fey world that it doesn't really fit the Freedom Season task, so I can't find a place for it either.

Of course! That makes sense--I realized that about the full amount of points after I posted my question. Thanks so much for answering! Well, I don't think I'll be able to finish this season, but I will try next season!
This is my third one, I think and i haven't fully finished it. I focus on finding the book to read for the task. If I get to the task, that's a goal I accomplished. The best part about this challenge is the extra points and that you can repeat tasks.
I just got this answer from Julie Kagawa, author of The Iron King, on Twitter:Jkagawa
@klibrary I do have a fall birthday, in fact. :)
Is this good enough for those of us who would like to use her books to count her as a fall birthday?

I tried, but none of the people that appeared in a search appeared to be authors and it was all in Swedish;). I follow a lot of YA authors on Twitter, so I just figured it didn't hurt to ask!

LOL -- Hey Karen, thanks for giving it a shot. It never hurts to put the request out there. This is an ingenious bunch of folks here!
