Regarding Offspring: YES! You know, I had no intention of watching this, thought it looked a bit lame. But then when the first episode aired and I found nothing else worth watching, I gave in. Glad I did! I LOVE Nina. She's the main reason I'm hooked. This really is a well-written series

Yep, Carmel, watched it. I'm enjoying it too. It's not taxing emotionally; there's no murderer (yet) to figure out. Perfect really for a Sunday evening.

I caught Rake for the first time tonight. In typical Aussie fashion, lots of tit's and arse. I'll keep watching it, lots of tongue in cheek humour. It's well worth giving a go.

Offspring was enjoyable series..I'm glad it is coming back for a 2nd season.I enjoy watching RUSH but sadly this season has been probably the worst. I've never been bored by an actual episode of this series until this season. It's a shame because the people who wrote this also wrote Police Rescue.

I'm with you on Offspring. Got hooked quite easily. Must watch Rake again. Loved the first ep but keep forgetting it's on.

Rake is so worth watching. I'm annoyed because I forgot to add it to the PVR's recording list and I'm seeing a band at the Enmore Theatre tonight.
Well there's always the ABC's iview.

Thanks Carmel. Saw Electric Empire from Melbourne support Fat Freddy's Drop from NZ. Brilliant night.
Seeing Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings next week.
Enough of music, now back to television.
Did anyone watch Rake last night? I couldn't stop giggling.
You won't regret it Laura. I will never be able to look at rottweilers and Sam Neil in quite the same way ever again.
Yes it is the first season. I think it's up to episode 5 or there abouts. I have only managed to catch two episodes.
My favourite Aussie films would have to be the Crocodile Dundee movies and Crackerjack...I laugh everytime I watch them :)
TV shows: In my opinion, Australia produces some of THE BEST television shows...I absolutely LOVE The Librarians, The Chasers War on Everything, Very Small Business, The Gruen Transfer, We can be Heroes, Summer Heights Highand the Hamish and Andy specials. Its just a pity all of them are either finished or in-between seasons. Movies: Whilst unlike TV shows, none of my favorite movies are Australian. That is not to say there arent some fantastic ones out there. The Castle, Crocodile Dundee, Kenny, Gallipoli and Mary and Max are all wonderful.
Edit: I almost forgot Babe and Babe 2, they are so cute :)
I hadn't even heard of Animal Kingdom until tonight. It must be good, it's pretty much made a clean sweep at the AFI's!
The guy who made Summer Heights High is coming back to TV next year with another series..OMG! I can't wait but I just known I'm going to spend ages cringing at it too..lolRush won an award :O!
I caught by accident the closing party for the GTV 9 studios in Melbourne before the station moves to its new site. They televised it with interview segments and although this did not quite show why Channel 9 in Melbourne was once Australia's best station for variety, the content was worth keeping tuned in for.I was quite surprised at how good an interviewer/presenter Eddie McGuire is. Take him away from testosterone charged shows and he's engaging. His interview with Bert Newton was lovely and helped save the program from too much 'patting itself on the back'.
Away from Channel 9, remember Adventure Island? The show that mothers and politicians tried to save from getting axed.
Other favourite Aus films of mine -
Dad and Dave Come To Town
Dad Rudd M.P.
It Isn't Done
(And last year's)The Cedar Boys
I loved Adventure Island when I was a kid. :)

I didn't realise till a few years back that John Michael Howson was the Clown!
I always had a bad impression of Eddie Maguire after the "bone" incident with Jessica Rowe. But I've seen more if him recently and my opinion is also changing.
A little bit of information about Adventure Island. Several years ago I was researching the program and got to speak to John Michael Howson. Apparently just before they were axed, they shot a one hour episode in colour (a shortened version of that week's story). The reason? Jim Henson was interested in the series for American television.
Australian movies: Crocodile Dundee, Crocodile Dundee 2, Babe, Babe 2, Bangkok Hilton, Galipolli, Two Hands.Australian TV Shows: Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, The Adventures Of Blinky Bill, Heartbreak High,Home and Away, Police Rescue, Water Rats, East West 101, Big Sky,The Great Outdoors, The Morning Show, Sunrise, 60 Minutes and more.
I can't think of a lot right now, in fact, only one show: Chasers War On Everything! Too bad they cancelled the show =(
I quite liked Tomorrow, when the war began. It would have to be the best book-movie adaption I have seen. I also really liked Daybreakers, Bran Nue Dae and The black baloon.
Just reading this thread for the first time and wanted to chime in.My favourite TV show at the moment is most definitely Offspring. I just love the characters in this show. Love it!!
The first movie that came to mind when I read the title of this thread was The Castle. Now a little bit of trivia for you regarding The Castle. Did you know that The Castle at Bonnie Doon is up for sale at the moment? http://tinyurl.com/4dkrbxl
How's the serenity?

Did anyone catch "Bran Nui Dae" tonight? We giggled all the way through it. Hopefully it will be replayed on ABC's iView for anyone who missed it.
Darn it! I have been meaning to watch it all week, but we had friends drop by to say hello at 6PM and they ended up staying until 11. Hopefully they replay it :)
I watched 'Laid' last night. It was supposed to be funny. I needed one of the signs that said "Laugh now". Maybe it will get better.
