I will be watching Stephen Fry looking at London in about 30 minutes time on ABC. It should be good.

I love Stephen Fry - one of the best actors and all round entertainers in the business. And a really good human being too.

David Menon (wwwgoodreadscomdavidmenon) I must say that 'Priscilla - Queen of the Desert!' is one of the funniest, most original and yet also of the most poignant films I've ever seen.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) I really liked Keating! the musical.

message 558: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Currently watching Breaking Bad.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) I need to finish that. I watched series 1-4 in a week and then never got around to season 5.

message 560: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments I've just started season 4. Bryan Cranston is terrific.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) He is good in it.

I wouldn't sleep for a year if I watched something like that. Used to be able to handle all the scary movies but not anymore

message 564: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments The Conjuring is the only horror movie of the last five or so years that I've actually enjoyed.

You're back?! How was your holiday Jess? Welcome home:)

message 566: by Clare (new)

Clare Just started Season 3 of Game of Thrones to catch up before Season 4 starts - totally love that show.

And my guilty pleasure? I'm hanging for MKR to start.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) With you on that one, Clare. Me and mum watch MKR together :P

Had never heard of it, but have now ordered it from your abc shop link. Thanks, Mate!

★ Jess | 3071 comments Curb Your Enthusiasm is my new comedy now that I'm up to date with Parks and Recreation. Larry David is my hero.

message 570: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Remmert (joanneremmert) One of my faves is 'Carla Cametti PD', a 6 part series thst screened on SBS about 3 years ago. Set in Melbourne (from memory), a crime/drama starring Diana Glen, Vince Colosimo + loads of other locals. Fantastic!

I had not read the books before watching The White Queen Series. I enjoyed it and went on to read The White Princess which I have just finished.

Save them for your holidays Michael, you'll have plenty of time then;)

message 574: by E.A. (new)

E.A. Harwik (eaharwik) Watched a repeat of 'Rake' last night. That show is outrageous. Love it.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) My mum loves Rake.

Michael (knowledgelost) E.A. wrote: "Watched a repeat of 'Rake' last night. That show is outrageous. Love it."

Rake is a pretty decent show, I suspect the american version will be disappointing

message 577: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Anyone following the Oscars? I've just finished watching Dallas Buyers Club, meaning I've seen all the Best Picture nominees + both male acting categories. (McConaughey will surely jag the big one.)

message 578: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I normally try to watch all the oscar nominations for best picture, but Townsville cinemas are terrible and they haven't released most of them. :(

message 579: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments The Wolf of Wall Street, Her, Gravity & 12 Years a Slave probably my favourites among them. Especially Wall Street.

message 580: by Sally906 (last edited Feb 22, 2014 03:20AM) (new)

Sally906 | 98 comments We saw Gravity a couple of weeks ago. It's ok but I think there are much better movies out there.

No desire to see Wall Street. Hate movies with lots of swearing in it and I understand this has gone down in film history as the movie with the most swearing ever. Not a wowser - just think there is more swearing in movies than there is in real life and most of the swearing is just there for the sake of it.

Sorry swearing is just my pet hate :)

Looking forwards to seeing 12 years a slave, philomena and blue jacinta though

message 581: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Dont get me wrong, I hate when there is lots of swearing and its totally unnecessary. Though Wolf of Wall Street totally pulls it off. Infact, watch it win an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. Hilarious.

message 582: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 98 comments Will probably wait until it is available as free hire or free to air. I promise I'll try :)

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Wolf of Wall Street is apparently a masterpiece. Very keen to see it myself.

A fantastic tribute to one of the greatest directors of all time.

Gonna go see The Wind Rises with a few mates.

message 584: by Rita (new)

Rita Chapman | 151 comments Downton Abbey is back on Australian TV tonight! Can't wait. But why do they have to put it on at the same time as Rake?

message 585: by Phrynne, Series Queen! (new)

Phrynne | 16025 comments Mod
I was surprised how much I liked Wolf of Wall Street. There was lots of swearing but at least it was inventive swearing and not just using the f word ten times in one sentence. And it was really very funny in parts and well acted.

message 586: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Oscars! Called most of the major categories, though Im disappointed Arcade Fire didn't win for Best Original Score :(
Even though it won 0, Wolf Of Wall Street is still my favourite.

message 587: by Liam || Books 'n Beards (last edited Mar 04, 2014 06:29PM) (new)

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Did Gravity win anything? I missed them.

Oh and I saw The Wind Rises with a few friends on Sunday night - very good.

message 588: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) Gravity ended up winning 7 awards, not best picture but did win Best Director, Visual Effects and Cinematography.

Happy to see Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey won for Dallas Buyers Club, they did an awesome job and well deserved.

I read the book - but haven't seen the show - loved the book.

message 591: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) Orphan Black is back! one of my favourite shows currently, currently airing on SBS2. Also available on SBS on demand.

message 592: by Dina (new)

Dina Roberts | 91 comments I wish this topic was more active! I love TV shows, almost as much as books.

I've been religiously watching old episodes of Home and Away and Neighbours (from 1980) I have a huge emotional attachment to the former.

A few years ago, we were really into McLeod's Daughters (which I think might be more popular here in America than in Australia).

I loved Dance Academy. I used to love Offspring, but my love diminished a little after last season.

I watched Love My Way, which was depressing, but beautiful. But then it got too depressing for me, and I quit.

Oh, and I watched a season or two of Packed to the Rafters.

I haven't seen many movies, but I did like Murial's Wedding. I love Bran Nue Dae and The Sapphires.

message 593: by Dina (new)

Dina Roberts | 91 comments Forgot a show....

Mother and Son.

That was brilliant, though I don't think I saw all the episodes.

message 594: by Dina (new)

Dina Roberts | 91 comments Michael,

Unfortunately, no.

I've bought some from iTunes (had to get Australian account), and a lot of stuff has been uploaded to YouTube.

We did have McLeod's Daughters here, and stuff from that one comedian. I forget his name, but he plays different characters at a high school?

Oh! And we do get Dancing Academy and some other teen shows.

Hi! Yes, when we went to Australia, we were quite surprised by how much American TV you guys get.

I didn't realize it was so hard for you to get overseas shows.

What type of shows are people most after? Game of Thrones? Stuff like that?

I wish it was easier to watch TV shows from around the world.

One thing I hate is when I'm trying to watch something on an Australian website and it says the dreaded "Geo-Blocked". Although then somethings are not blocked. I'm not sure why.

Jülie ☼♄  (jlie) | 6581 comments Anybody watching Janet King? This is really the second season but they changed the name, it was called "Crownies" last season. Very good show...a serious version of "Rake" which I also love.

message 598: by Dina (new)

Dina Roberts | 91 comments Michael, I think it's hard to resist doing stuff like Netflix when there aren't better options.

I think there's a difference between pirating a show because you don't want to pay for it and pirating a show because there's no other way it's available to you. Or you're way behind.

We're living in such a global society. It's crazy that we can't easily and readily watch each other's shows.

Hey...on your regular networks (like ABC, 10, 7 and all that) do you have mostly American, Aussie, and British shows? Do you get shows from countries besides that?

message 599: by Dina (new)
