As I read this chapter, this was starting to read like more architecture, less code... until I saw the actual client code. I think that the code's simplicity speaks well to the underlying libraries that make this simplicity possible, especially the XML processing. It also highlights that it is important for service providers to supply APIs in a variety of languages, allowing for a single-language client implementation (in this case, Java), which helps the simplicity.

Erik | 165 comments I liked the code in this chapter too. The XML parsing and Post/Get functions are nice to see in action. Alot web development that I have done in ASP.NET C# hides the Post/Get and XML parsing. Those activities are "under the hood" these days. This chapter seems dated due to this, but those are good concepts to be aware of.
