Eliza (elizac) | 72 comments just finished A Christmas Carol. Tis the season

message 1102: by Eva (new)

Eva | 60 comments I just finished Dracula by Bram Stoker. The first book I've read through DailyLit.
I really enjoyed the different narrators - and Madam Mina what a strong female character!

message 1103: by Mike (new)

Mike | 16 comments Finished Ulysses, which was an amazing novel which may make me unable to look at a novel the same way again, and The Great Gatsby, which was an interesting love story with some fine passages.

message 1104: by Darcy (new)

message 1105: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth If Not Now, When?. Really, really good! I'm glad it was the December choice for the club, I wouldn't have read it otherwise.

message 1106: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliajs) | 9 comments Howards End by E.M Forster. A lesson in forgiving others, and choosing compassion in order to truly love others.

message 1107: by Kartini (new)

Kartini | 2 comments I just finish reading Honeymoon with My Brother by Franz Weisman.. A book that just gives you the urge to pack your bag and do the journey of your life before you regret it..

message 1108: by Stephanie "Jedigal" (new)

Stephanie "Jedigal" (jedigal) | 270 comments Sieze the Day by Saul Bellow. I get why it receives critical acclaim, but it didn't do anything for me. Too much depressing realism. At this point in my life, I like stories that convey some hope.

message 1109: by Ravenskya (new)

Ravenskya (ravenskya) Just finished "Wuthering Heights" and though it's really well written, it wasn't my cup of tea. Still working through "War and Peace"

message 1110: by Deanna (new)

Deanna McFadden (ragdoll) | 9 comments Last night I finished "Middlemarch," which is honestly one of the best books I've ever read.

message 1111: by Lorena (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) | 18 comments I just finished reading At The Mountain of Madness, for the January discussion, it was part of a book that compiles some of H.P. Lovecraft's stories. It was a nice read, not too long and very intense in parts. I also read Dracula recently and love it as well.

message 1113: by Niche (new)

Niche Kristen, I just red Wuthering Heights in August and I completely agree with you. It was well written but I didn't feel any empathy towards the characters.

message 1114: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (sbez05) | 32 comments If Not Now, When? by Primo Levi. I thought it was extremely well written and illuminated a side of WWII and the Holocaust that I have never read about before. I really liked it.

message 1115: by Vicky (new)

Vicky | 43 comments Kartini -- Franz Weisman is a friend of my niece, Caitlin, and it's a true story! I have had it on my TBR shelf forever and really must get around to reading it soon! Glad to hear you enjoyed it!

message 1116: by Stephanie "Jedigal" (new)

Stephanie "Jedigal" (jedigal) | 270 comments Not a list book, but a list author...
John Steinbeck's THE PEARL.

Great author, great book.
And SHORT!

message 1117: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Just finished re-reading To Kill a Mockingbird. I absolutetly love that book!

Stephanie, I've also read The Pearl and thought it was great. I actually like it a lot more than some of the other Steinbeck novels.

message 1118: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliemoncton) | 54 comments I just finished Howard's End and The Things They Carried. Loved them both, but I'm glad to be done with The Things They Carried before the holidays officially start. It was very well written, but depressing. A must read for anyone who is pro-war.

Lori (lorihahn54) | 27 comments The Devil and Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho wonderful story

message 1122: by Deanne (new)

Deanne | 681 comments Just finished Adam Bede by George Eliot, great book beautifully written. Watched a programme recently about Mary Ann Evans and her life, both before she started to write and during. Amazing to think what she went through and the actions she took, especially in the face of victorian society where she was virtually an outcast.
Gave me a slightly different perspective of her other books in particular The mill on the floss.

message 1123: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 18 comments I just finished Cat's Eye. So glad I finally picked up a Margaret Atwood book!

message 1124: by Christina Stind (new)

Christina Stind | 180 comments Just finished Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Marukami who is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. I like a book where you have to think even when you're done with it to grasp it all - and I'm definitely not ready to write a review of it yet, still need to do some thinking about it.
But I liked it - and it's a fast read as well! :-)

A warning: Murakami can become an addiction. If you really liked Sputnik Sweetheart then be sure to check out Norwegian Wood.

Hehe, thanks for the warning - so far it's my second Murakami and I really like him. I have Wind up Bird Chronicle waiting on my shelf as well as After Dark and Norwegian Wood is high up on my 'want to buy'-list :-) Thanks for the recommendation!

A short story that didn't captivate me.

Not as action packed as I had expected. But otherwise a nice quick holiday read.

message 1143: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) Northanger Abbey

I've been working on books from one section of the list online. I enjoyed the first half, but the second half didn't really hold my attention.

Atonement!

message 1145: by Linda (new)

Linda A Farewell to Arms - depressing, of course.

message 1146: by Niche (new)

Niche I've put Gone With the Wind on hold because I only made it to page 96 due to procratinating. I just finished A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and The Story of Lucy Gault by William Trevor.

message 1147: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth I just finished Flowers for Algernon. I've never read it before and I'm really surprised that it's not on the 1001 list.

message 1148: by Linda (new)

Linda Elizabeth - I've read Flowers for Algernon and also think it belongs on the List. Very unique and intriguing read.

Christina Stind | 180 comments One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich - amazing book.

message 1150: by Susan (new)

Susan | 28 comments I just finished Lady Chatterly's Lover. It was a bit slow at first, but then as the relationship progressed I really enjoyed it. Surprised by the ending.
