The only one I've read is Arthur & George. It was very good, I thought, and I keep hoping I'll find time for more by this author.

message 6960: by Kristel (new)

Kristel (kristelh) Just finished The Collector by John Fowles. It was his debut novel. A story told from two perspectives, the villain and the victim. I will be interested to compare with a later work because I will be reading The Magus.

Thanks, I'll look for it. The book was good. I usually don't enjoy child narrators but Freud nailed it, natural sounding, well-done.

OH, thank you! I have that one penciled in for sometime before March 1. The schedule is crowded, perhaps I need to bump it up to make sure it happens.

message 6988: by Mikela (new)

Mikela | 378 comments Yay, my first Vonnegut!! I wonder why I've shied away from him all these years. Just finished and really enjoyed Cat’s Cradle

message 6989: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished August Is A Wicked Month and thought it was one of the worst book i have read from the list. I never would have finished it, but it was so short that I thought I might as well.

I also finished Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency which was quite good. I am reading the second one now.

message 6990: by Jonpaul (new)

Jonpaul War of the Worlds by HG Wells. I'd only read one Wells-Dr. Moreau-years before I started on the list and wasn't blown away but I've really enjoyed The Time Machine, The Invisible Man, and WOTW. What blows me away is how there really wasn't much of a precursor to him. He was truly a visionary.

Also finished off So Long a Letter by Mariama Ba, which I wanted to like more than I actually did, especially because of its subject. It's undoubtedly important but I never thoroughly enjoyed it or lost myself in it.

Deborah Wells | 39 comments Just finished The Fall of the House of Usher. Super quick read.

message 6997: by Yrinsyde (new)

Yrinsyde | 295 comments I've read King Solomon's Mines and Heart of Darkness. The first was a fun read, but what angered me was the cruelty to animals rather than the racism. Heart of Darkness was an interesting novel - reminded me of a Doris Lessing short story where a man was considered wrong in the head because he 'went native'. Still, some of it remains a mystery to me.

Will definitely be reading more of him in 2013.
