My name is Julia Bell and I've been in Goodreads for about two years. Thank you for letting me introduce myself and I think I'll find this a very interesting and informative group after reading the previous threads. I'm a member of a number of groups, but especially HR since I read and write that genre. I have written one contemporary romance but seven historical. My latest novel NYSSA'S PROMISE went online last weekend and is doing well.

I look forward to joining in.

LeeAnna Hey! Writer and reader here! I'm LeeAnna, I'm 30, tired of retail, so I wrote a trilogy. It's completed, but I have just begun to go through book 1 and do my own editing. Not sure where to go from here, or how to get book 1 noticed. Figuring that out now??? And I am an avid reader of all genres! I am willing to read anyone's writing and new stories. I have a short story from years ago posted on wattpad, under the name ElleCurran, I signed up mostly to see what the website was about (I've learned a lot since I wrote that story, so it's nothing like my trilogy) so I guess I'm trying to branch out and network! Looking forward to seeing how this group works! Friend me! That's how I get my best book recommendations!

Stephenie Kay | 5 comments Hello, my name is Stephenie. I am searching resources to help me write my book. I have been trying to write the same book for years now, but I keep getting lost in the format. I get so far along, and I become severely unhappy with how it 'feels'. I am an avid reader. I love looking at how others do their flow. I love the flow of the books I read. If I cannot get into the flow, then I cannot read it. I can read up to 1,000 pages a day if the book is that interesting.

About your book, are you still working on the first draft, or is this problem occurring as you edit?

Stephenie wrote: "I think I have a million rough drafts on my hard-drive."

Your problem may be that you're over-thinking your process. I generally start my books by deciding on a point of view (first person or third person) which ever works best for the story. Then I do an outline for the book, sometimes a rough outline, sometimes chapter by chapter, and possibly even character outlines. Then I sit down and write the entire first draft using my outline as a guide, but I keep some flexibility for inspirations or new ideas.
What I don't do is edit as I write the first draft- the one rule writers should live by is that first drafts are always crap. Keep writing it even if you feel it isn't working, plow through, writing the crap until the draft is finished. It is in the editing where you turn the book into polished perfection. That's where you shred the book, rewrite, and rewrite, and rewrite some more until you're satisfied.
And that said, if you need help on anything specific, on problem areas for you, feel free to ask.

Stephenie Kay | 5 comments In some ways, I have to mix 1st and 3rd. I'm trying to write a book that tells my story, but there is a lot of going back and forth, and I am trying to make the story not totally reek of drama. I'm also wondering how I can turn it into a Novel instead of an Autobiography, and I get almost done with the book, and I just don't like it. I have even entertained the thought of writing a book for each 'event' instead of 1 single book.

I have some experience in writing in difficult formats. If you're looking to mix 1st and 3rd, a good way to do that might be to alternate view points with each chapter, 1st then 3rd (or vice versa) and essentially create two parallel stories; that way you could keep the 1st person view sightly more autobiographical, and give the 3rd person a more novelish feel.

Stephenie Kay | 5 comments Hmm, I will certainly try that. Sorry, I was out of town most of the weekend, and while I was gone the pipes burst in the basement. Such a busy week. :)

When I began writing this book I even toyed with the idea of writing it in diary format, but that was too complicating because of the different fonts or styling I had to do. I have actually thought of doing my autobiography in a series of books like Maya Angelo did.

Rusty Nugent (RustyNugent) | 2 comments Greetings y'all, My name is Rusty Nugent. I am a southern dark fantasy paranormal with elements of horror, action, adventure, blood, guts and romance Author. I am 43 and and writing on my third novel in the series. My books are about heroic werewolves waging war against evil vampires and other evil supernatural creatures.
Moonwarriors: Guardians of the Night
2 books so far in my New Adult Young Adult Paranormal Supernatural Dark Fantasy series.

You can read my fourth chapter of my third book that I am writing on now. The website Wattpad is great for writers and readers to join forces. Check it out if your an author or writer. (^_^)

Here is a poem about my books. It's called Full Moon Bloodlust.

When the moonlight strikes me, I am filled with power. In an evil age, in my darkest hour. Death and Destruction are the pleasures of my life. A lonely life filled with agony. Here I stand upon this Ledge with sword in hand I hereby pledge. That in the full moon's waning light. I shall make my Sacrifice. The Fog drifts down the hills into my dark domain. My senses sharp and I Insane. Into the woods I go with the moonlight as my guide. I now creep like the mist and from my wrath you can not hide. I shall avenge all I have lost. Behold the coming of death with your now ending immortal life. I shall make my sacrifice. Unto the goddess of the night. I shall make my sacrifice.

Alexandria Hampton | 2 comments Hi there! :)
I'm new to Good Reads as an author, so I suppose I should tell a little bit about myself.
Writing has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember and from the young age of five, I started creating my first works of literature although they were, as to be expected, quite bad.
As I grew older, I began expanding my writing abilities, attempting short stories and chapter books until I finally worked up to finishing two books by the age of 14.
Once I took and completed the two year course at the Institute of Children's Literature, that is when I began to take my writing much more seriously and within a year of graduating, I started on what is now my first finished and published book: Devoted to October.

Hi, Dana, and welcome to the group. Promotion is allowed in the group (so no problem about posting the link). Dana Rey (DanaRey) | 2 comments Hi everyone, The Gasping main character is James.

James suffers emotional chaos after the loss of his wife from her unexpected death from cancer. Touched on, and moved along to get to the main character James...

We follow James with his loss. We learn how many things can change in mere moments. We learn what James went through to find love again.

It touches your soul, brings you into his world while taking the reader into others character worlds James met along the way...

There are moments of sheer laughter, and immediately those can change to tears. Then those touching moments where love is explained by James and what that word love really meant to him....

The guts of the story exposes real life situations that really can change and alter a person's life in seconds...

The Cairo Trilogy Palace Walk / Palace of Desire / Sugar Street (The Cairo Trilogy #1-3) by Naguib Mahfouz

The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

My name is Andrew. I am a passionate reader, though I almost stopped for twenty-odd years at one point.

My current favourites are Dostoevsky and Naguib Mahfouz. I will also travel a reasonable distance and pay a reasonable price to see any production of The Oresteia, however bad.

In the last couple of years I have written a novel and am half-way through another. I don't know how to categorise them. One was suggested by working with a young woman who had been raped in prison. The other is very loosely based on Hattusa.

I have posted a couple of extracts in the creative corner on Goodreads.
