Vanessa (ihavealwayslovedtoread) | 10 comments Getting off SA for a moment - there's a really good Australian author called Fiona Palmer. I strongly recommend her books. Has anyone read any of them and if so, what do think?

message 4910: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80169 comments Mod
Definitely have read Fiona Palmer Vanessa. If you go to this thread https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... you can put the link up to books of hers that you have read, start a discussion with like minded readers:)

Jill Epperson Hi, I'm Jill and I live in Northern California with my husband and daughter. I stumbled upon this group while exploring Goodreads, which I joined earlier in 2013. I've been trying to advance my love of books by simply exploring foreign authors and writing styles. I started first with Irish crime noir which I absolutely loved and then dabbled in the ever widening circle of Scandinavian crime authors, eventually I hit on a New Zealand thriller by Paul Cleave and here I am to explore "down under". I have decided to opt for the 2014 Aussie challenge and go for the Bronze and hope to have my list up soon. Thanks!

Jill Epperson Questions re: 2014 Challenge, do I review the books on the same thread as I initially post my list? Also, found I had a bit of a hard time locating some of my initial selections in my local library's catalog or even Amazon, so I had to make some alternate selections. Do you have any suggestions for new releases that will be available in the States?

message 4929: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80169 comments Mod
Jill if you want to review your books, you do it on the review page of that particular book. Then add a link to the review in the challenge thread so people can click on it to have a look:)

I can only suggest you check out the new releases thread as the year goes on, as I don't know what would be released in the states, time comparison etc. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... Good luck:)

Perry Gamsby | 23 comments Hello to all and Happy New Year. My name is Perry Gamsby, I am an author, publisher and lecturer living in Sydney's far west. I write what I term 'Street Lit', however I have just discovered that seems to be an off shoot of 'Urban Lit' which is mostly African-American and Latino character filled stories.

My writing is about everyday, ordinary working class people caught up in ordinary, everyday events we lump under the heading 'Our Lives'. I have three novels in print and eBook, all set at some stage in the 2770 postcode, although the latest, 'Never Be Unsaid' quickly heads off to the Outback.

I also write short stories, poems and whatever someone is willing to pay me to write. I do this full time since my premature death in 2009 during a heart operation and it beats working for a living! I also give back to the reading/writing community by helping writers become published authors both in a paid capacity and for free (yes, free) via my website The Word Shop dot info.

Looking forward to some great interaction with fellow reader/writers.

Welcome Perry, great to have you with us. Please go here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... and open your own thread to promote your work. We'd love to browse through it, and anything posted in this thread will be lost, as it's an introduction thread only. So with your own thread, you can update whenever you want...

Also as you are an Aussie, feel free to request being added to our list of Aussie authors here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 4949: by Cornelius (new)

Cornelius Addison (addisonstales) | 2 comments Many many years ago I met a man in a small town in Denmark. He asked me where I was from and I told him Australia.

"That's near England, isn't it?" he asked.

I said no, and explained that it was at the other end of the world.

"Well, I never was any good at biology," he said, shrugging.

He went on to complain about how bad his biology teacher was. I didn't have the heart to tell him that perhaps his expectations were too high.

That was a true story, but I am actually from Calladin ... and where that is I will leave for you to discover.

Greetings group! Here's to a 5-0 whitewash in the Ashes :)
