HI Christina. I write to, but they like writers here. I just wish I could read as much as these folk. Very jealous.

Hi Wendy, I kinda wish TV didn't exist so I could read more, but I confess to having a few fave shows. Although after they killed off Patrick in Offspring I may give drama series a miss for a bit and channel that emotional outrage into my next book. LOL

message 4521: by Sally (new)

Sally Howes | 223 comments G'day mates ;-) I'm Sally, I'm 35 years old and live in rural SA. I've been a bookworm for as long as I can remember, reading is like breathing for me. I am a freelance editor dealing mostly with fiction manuscripts and academic theses. I just joined Goodreads yesterday, still trying to find my way around. Please feel free to recommend other groups for me, or to 'friend' me if you like my profile. I like to read any and every kind of fiction apart from horror and crime. I'm trying to read my way through the classics (reading George Eliot's Middlemarch at the moment), interspersed with quite a bit of fantasy and some literary or contemporary fiction (really enjoyed Jennifer Egan's A Visit from the Goon Squad recently). My favourite Aussie authors are Tim Winton, Bryce Courtenay, Peter Carey (sometimes!) and Miles Franklin.

I'm looking forward to meeting some other Aussie book lovers, as they are rather scarce in my area!

Jenn (jumpapa) | 805 comments Hi Everyone. My name is Jennifer. I am 32 and I live in Perth WA. I work as a Library Technician in an Academic Library so unfortunately there is no fiction. I love to read and I am currently working my way through BBCs 100 books to read before you die. I have only read 50 so far. This is the first book club I have been in so I am hoping it will be fun. My Favourite authors are Raymond E Feist, Keri Arthur, Laurell K Hamilton, Jane Austen, James Patterson and Charles Dickens.

Sarah-Jane (sairjane) Hi, I'm not sure if I ever introduced myself, I joined this group ages ago but don't remember if I posted anything! Oops. Sorry.

Anyway, I'm SJ, I live in Melbourne's inner west and love to read. My happy place is any bookshop, whether new or secondhand. I mainly read literary fiction but have been known to stray into genre fic. I'm female and in my early 40s.

:-)

Jülie ☼♄  (jlie) | 6581 comments Hi All, I'm Julie...I won't tell you how old I am but suffice it to say that I am closer to my dessert years than my salad days! I am recently retired and am loving that I can further indulge my lifetime (first) love of reading. Now with the help of Goodreads I can better afford to do that ;-) ...I am also a recently new member. I was born and raised in Sydney NSW and am an avid Genealogy/family history nut, so my reading leans a lot towards local history and Australian history...especially colonial times. Apart from that my reading tastes are very eclectic with a good pinch of Aussie content. Just love reading, and have been known to read the phone book in times of desperation...nowadays you just need a smart phone and your eveready! I do still love the thrill and the feel of getting a lovely new book though, does anybody else love the smell of a new book?
Nice to meet you all.

I like the smell of old books better :)
You gave your age away though with the whole 'salad days' vs 'dessert days' quote. And because I recognise it, I just gave the fact that I'm closer to dessert than salad too. lol!
Nice to meet another Aussie with wilted lettuce in their salad ;)

I am Erica and I am a Brisbane girl born and raised.
I am an ex-primary school teacher, now tutoring part-time and writing mystery/adventure books for 8 - 12 year olds.
I am married, mother to two grown up kids and two labradoodles.

Reading, the enjoyment and encouragement thereof, is my delight and passion. I have had a library card since I was two and I am loving this age of technology that allows me to access books so easily.

Nice to meet you all.

Diane Hi! I am Diane and I am from the Midwest in the States. I have been living in Sydney for the past year and a half. I was a physio in the US, but I am a stay at home mum during our time in Australia. I am not overly picky about the type of book I read, but I do gravitate towards historical fiction or coming of age novels.

Nice to meet you all:-)

I do love the bookstores here in Sydney. I have recently discovered Glebe and it is on my "to-do" list to go there for a day just to browse the second-hand bookshops.

By the way, I also love the look, feel, and smell of a real book. However, I especially love a slightly used book when the pages have gotten a little softer. I bought myself a Kindle when I moved countries thinking it would be practical to use while traveling. And it is good for traveling. However, after reading a couple of books in a row on my Kindle, I start to getting book envy when I see people reading real books out in public. Haha!

Hi Diane, I really get that, about the feel and smell of books and bookshops. Haha, book envy, it certainly is a different experience reading from a 'device' isn't it? If you like Glebe then you will like Newtown also, if you haven't already discovered it....very eclectic, they also have a Berkelouws bookstore there with a built in coffee shop, Luvly ;-)
