Christopher Gerard (ChristopherGerard) | 8 comments Hi all, what a lovely group! My name is Christopher and I live in New South Wales. I used to be an "ads man" but writing is my true passion.

I love writing ( and reading) and was very lucky to be able to publish my first novel - Talon: A Jack Rawson Saga - recently. It allowed me to combine my passion and my love for animals - its a dream come true.

Hope to be able to discover new books from this group as well as insightful discussions and conversations!

Nice to meet you all!

James Loftus | 134 comments I've been around here for quite a while. I just drop in from time to time. But thanks for the welcome. Usually, I'm busy too writing. One novel to date, historical fiction, another, semi-autobiographical ... about a outback feud, between a Kadaicha Man and a police sergeant, so long ago, so many memories. Great place the north-west. The Selwyn range country. Wish I was there right now, sleeping in my swag in a dry creek bed ... fire going ... give me a home amongst the gum trees ..

JT Mcgowan (jtmcgowan) | 9 comments Hi all,

Another newbie here. I'm in rural NSW, also on a farm, and in the Monaro. I write general fiction (I know that's not very precise), and use the area as a setting.

Jan (jandante) | 4 comments Hi All, I joined a few days ago. I'm retired from the workforce and live with hubby and Aussie Terrier in Northern Rivers NSW.
I bought some books, and read many library books, however hubby bought me a Kindle and I am exploring the world of free books at present.
All the best,
Jan

Kathryn O'Halloran | 2 comments Hi, I'm Kathryn and I live in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne. I am both a reader and writer. I am currently writing an historical novel set in Japan and I must say, having living in Japan in 2010-11, I really have an appreciation for the things we often take for granted about our Australian way of life.

My favourite Aussie writer is Nick Earls. I love his humour and that he can write about serious topics in a light and funny way.

Great name, Kathryn!! In 2 of my other groups there are new members also called Kathryn - it's a strange feeling, since this is normally a less common spelling. And welcome to the other new members also! :-)

Shane Hermoso Hey all, I'm Sheryl. I moved to Brisbane a few years ago. I gotta say I'm new to the culture, so this year I decided to read Aussie books (about Australia or written by Aussie authors). I currently have a list of aussie-must-reads, so hopefully i can get some suggestions/ideas here of good ones i can add.

message 3831: by Shane (new)

Sharon Robards (sharonrobards) | 944 comments Hello guys,

I live in Port Stephens, about two and a half hours north of Sydney. I read a variety of genres and have too many favourite writers to name, but when thinking of Australian books, I especially loved The Thorn Birds and The Lovers' Roomby Stephen Carroll.

Where about south? I love the Wollongong area, but always thought it so very cold in winter.

message 3843: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6949 comments further south than that, Sharon around Jervis Bay area otherwise known as Paradise.

I need an atlas LOL near Uludulla? - you know what I mean, I think...I also need an Australian spell checker.

Natasha Burns | 25 comments Hello, and thanks for accepting me into this group!
I'll start by saying this is the first time I'm writing here, or in any group, for that matter! I don't really know how goodreads groups work, so please be patient with me if I do or say the wrong thing!
I'm a Melburnian, and have a few "real" jobs part time but my thing is art and creating, with my website (natashaburns.com) taking up a good chunk of my time. (Control freak who can't delegate!)
I am a slow reader. I love to savour a book and I tend to read in the time it would take to speak it. I also get distracted a lot, so I find myself re-reading passages constantly!
Over summer I get a fair bit of reading done ("fair bit" by my standards!!).
I don't like any particular genre, I just like to read what I find interesting at the time. It just needs to be a page-turner!
Thanks again and I'll go check out some other threads now :)
