New member to the group. Hello my name is Tom Bell, but I write under the non de plume T W Lawless. My first book is Homecountry which is a gritty thriller set in Melbourne and outback Queensland. It introduces my main character, Peter Clancy who I will be using in subsequent books.
I was born and raised in North Queensland and currently live in Melbourne. I was a health professional for many years but always wanted to write books. I have studied screen writing, film making and creative writing. I look forward to being a member of the group.
Big welcome to the group Tom...if you head on over to the Author Spotlight section (where you put your request to be added) you can make your own thread to promote your book.

I love to read and have not had a lot of chance during the last 2 years - other than journal articles - I've read a lot of those! I'm not sure I have a favourite genre - my reading tastes are kind of eclectic and my least favourite genres are probably easier to define - horror, paranormal, romance (I like romance amongst other plots, but not keen on romance for its' own sake e.g. Mills & Boon), fantasy, sci-fi.
I've just recently discovered the Goodreads iphone app and am loving that I can add books to my (now centralised) "to read" list wherever I am. Before this, I was a Goodreads member but hadn't used it very much and I had a "to read" list in my diary, in the notes of my phone and on a random piece of paper I found amongst other pieces of paper!
Unfortunately, even though I've read a few books since finishing uni, my "to read" list doesn't seem to be getting any shorter and seems to be growing, in fact! There's just too many good books out there and I keep being made aware of them!
Looking forward to discussing books with other Aussies!
Welcome Kathryn, lovely to have you with us:) You will find your TBR will grow at an even more dramatic rate now;) When you're browsing the threads, you'll come across many that will add lots more books and authors to your reading delights!
Well done on finishing study...a huge achievement! Good luck with the job hunting:)

Hi, I'm Melody and I'm slowly finding my way around this site and learning all about it. I'm mostly into fantasy with a large dollop of forensic fiction and other crime fiction. Looking forward to using Goodreads as fully as possible :-)
Thanks, Brenda. Suppose I should say that I'm from the beautiful Blue Mountains, west of Sydney :-)
Thanks, Mish! I've just noticed that you ladies have a 'description' in italics alongside your name. How do you add one of those?

Oh unfortunately Melody to need to be a moderator of a group to be able to add a description. It’s pretty cool, isn’t it?

North Queensland is a fascinating area. Maybe I'm biased because I was born and raised there. I lived on a cattle station as a child. The only other book I know that has been set in North Queensland was Journey To The Stone Country by Alex Miller. I'm sure there's other books?

Hey guys I'm Murf, not much to say here, I'm only 16. From Melbourne, Australia. Ehrm, I love fantasy, sci-fi, Y.A fiction and mystery, especially adult mysteries by Michael Robotham. Sir Terry Pratchett is my favourite author, and Neil Gaiman is very cool. (Doctor Who and Sherlock bbc are too.)
Nice to meet you all!

A beautiful part of the country:)

Hey Murf, Welcome to the group :)

Hi Cheryl,
I'm also an avid reader. Also like you my budget is very limited so I have found our local libraries have been a God send, particularly as my 14 year old daughter is even more of an avid reader than I am. So to keep costs down I would highly recommend utilising your local and state libraries for books that you would like to read but can't afford to purchase. Of course the other benefit of this method of accessing books is that if you find you don't like the book after all you can always return it rather than having a book that will sit on your book shelves gathering dust because you'll never read it.
Very good advise Zara:) I also notice you're a new member, welcome! so perhaps you'd like to tell us a little about yourself right here, so we can all say hi!!

I love, love, love my local library. It can be hard to get hold of new releases or currently popular books, but I am happy to read books other than new releases. And now that libraries tend to have their catalogues online, I can even get an idea of whether my local library has books available for which I'm on the prowl even before I get there.
However, I am happy to spend hours (if time allows) browsing the shelves looking for books to read. I'm guaranteed to leave with more books than I intended, and I've lost count of how many times I go to the library to return a book, determined not to borrow any more as I already have enough/too many to get through before the stack is due back and yet still walk out with a book (or more) after something caught my eye! I just can't help it!!
I'm glad everyone is so happy with their libraries, we need to frequent them to keep them open (especially in my area!) There is a thread about our libraries if you want to continue the discussion in there:) http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...

I love reading authors such as Kate Grenville and Margaret Atwood but will read almost anything as long as it's well-written

Thank you for those recommendations Michael. I have read a fair number of the Australian books, and will have a look at the international ones soon

I live in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges in Victoria. I have been writing for a while and finally decided it was time to share with others. Daughter of Light and Dark is the first in a trilogy, next one out 2013.
In my earlier years I worked in advertising and the film industry both here and in the UK

I hope everyone has a good Christmas, and spends some holiday time with their nose stuck in a book!

Ch'kara - I can see the Dandenong Ranges from my area, they are beautiful! I had a lovely long lunch with my Spanish friend at Kate Kelly's last week :)
Is everyone excited for xmas? Only a few days to go, I hope you're all having a break.
