P.A. Fenton (pfenton) | 13 comments Hi all,

I've recently moved back to Australia after a long stint in the UK, now living in Brisbane. I've been a member of the UK Kindle Goodreads group for a while, but I'm struggling to keep up with the timezone difference. I thought to myself, I wonder if there's an Australian group? And here you are!

I'm more than a bit out of touch with the Aussie literature scene. I'll read just about anything Peter Carey puts out, but I'm a bit ignorant otherwise. My tastes in reading lean towards the alternative side of things, so if anyone has any book suggestions which are a bit different to the mainstream, I'm all ears.

I also write (indie author, run!), but so far my ebook efforts are all based in the UK. I am, however, writing an Australian-based book now, so I need to read as much Aussie literature as I can to clean the pommie out of my head.

Cheers, and thanks for being here.
Paul.

Andrew Thelander Hi Everyone!
I was born in Melbourne but have lived in Brisbane nearly all my life. Love reading and writing. My debut novel, Last Birds, was published by BeWrite Books UK in 2009. Sadly, Bewrite have decided to close and have returned publishing rights to me so I have re-released the novel via Createspace using my original working title, Do Kangaroos Believe in God? My second novel - about the politics of Climate Change action - will be out soon. I look forward to discussing Aussie literature and books with you all. Our books are a big part of our cultural identity and help us grow as a community. It's great to see our readers and writers at work. Cheers, Andrew

Kathy T | 21 comments Hi my name is Kathy and I am an addict. I read everyday, sometimes with my mobile phone under the blankets so I don't deprive my husband of sleep. I buy mainly Ebooks as I have run out of bookcases and often 3 or 4 at a time. I read until 1 or 2am because I am dammed if I do or dammed if I don't. I become so immersed in my books that the characters and storylines keep my mind far too active. I LOVE TO READ, so much so I am embarking on 6 yrs p/t de study to become a Librarian. Some would say I am going through a mid-life crisis as I work f/t, have a wonderful family made up a husband, 3 kids a cat and dog.

I even set an alarm on my Ipad, it's supposed to make me put the book down and the light out, I don't know why I bothered, I haven't obeyed it once yet! lol

Hi Mandy. I'm new to this group(Introduced myself last week) and I live on Mt. Tamborine. I recently finished a TERRIFIC book by an English nurse/author named Anne Wells. The book 'For The Children' tells of her experiences around the world in refugee camps, working for Heal the Children. It's 5 star (not self published). My second book, a Vietnam War memoir is out on Amazon - title, Goodbye Junie Moon. Cheers, June

Hi Vicki. That's a great result for THIN BLOOD. Don't know how you did it but congratulations!! Many years ago I co-wrote a book called The Khaki Mafia. We sold it to Crown in the USA and it sold 800,000 copies. But that was then and now is now. How times have changed. My new book, Goodbye Junie Moon, self published and on Amazon, came out a few months ago and has sold only a few hundred.( + about 3000 FREE downloads) With no PR person to help, I'm just another one lost in the shuffle. Internet self promoting seems to be beyond my capabilities.
Your sales are inspiring and I won't give up. Cheers.

June, Mandy is no longer a moderator in this group, but there are plenty of us who can help you out:) Any promoting of your book/s needs to go into the Aussie Author spotlight section http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_... where you can make your own thread. Our members know to go there to check out our new authors...you can also request to be added to our Aussie author list in that section too.

As we a predominantly a reading group, all authors need to ONLY promote in the correct section, or your posts will be deleted.

Excellent Kathy. The challenges are a good way to start if she's not much of a reader. It covers different genre so she/he is able to discover what genre suits them the most. Well done :)
