Pete Loveday (plover6345) Hi Monica, Welcome and I assume that the 'little town north of Melbourne' is Sydney. Is that correct?

message 2856: by JB (new)

JB Rowley (jbrowley) Very droll, Pete.

message 2857: by Monica Lamperd (new)

Monica Lamperd | 51 comments Haha Pete - no not quite that far north! I live up around the Kinglake region... about an hour from the city. Not quite as far north as Bendigo, Carmel!

Thank you for making me feel so welcome! Looking forward to joining in on the discussions :)

message 2868: by Amber (last edited May 21, 2012 11:09PM) (new)

Amber (ukaunz) I'm not exactly new to Goodreads (joined in March 2010) but I haven't really been active on the forums before now. I've just tentatively joined two reading challenges (the Winter reading challenge and the June Literary/Classics challenge) so I thought I'd better introduce myself. So hi there everyone :-) I'm from Canberra, I love reading, travelling the world, arts and crafts and upcycling. I'm now a stay-at-home to my daughter (5) and son (2) who are growing up with a voracious love of books too! Hopefully I will be able to find the time to do more of my own reading, as I usually only manage one or two books a month...

message 2869: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Amber :) I used to live in Canberra at one stage (with my family) and I still have friends there. I was also the technical officer at Photomedia, Canberra School of Art, A.N.U. Great memories of the Art School :) Looking forward to chatting with you.

KJ Hi Everyone,

I've been on Goodreads for awhile but have only just joined this group (thanks Mish!). I've also signed up for the Literary/Classic challenge - ahh so many books, so little time.....

I mainly read contemporary novels but am open to anything!

Look forward to reading all about what other 'Aussie Readers' are devouring.

message 2891: by Sabina (new)

Sabina (ms_delirium) Hello All!

I'm a little backward because I've joined 2 events, did the quiz, and now I'm introducing myself. There is a reason behind my madness though - I hate introductions. I never know what to say.

Anyway, I'm in Brisbane, Qld (originally from NSW) and live with my husband and 3 year old son.
As I chose to be a stay at home mum (actually my work at the time made the choice for me) I took up university studies when my son was 1. I'm studying Law and Business, but not sure if I'll pick the double degree back up next year.

I'm taking some time off this year and will resume next year once I get myself back in order. I've had some personal problems, but wont bore you all with that here. I don't want to scare you all away :-)

This year off is giving me some great time to read all those books I've gathered and haven't read yet. Trust me, there are a lot of them! I love reading as I can 'escape' to a different 'reality' for a while. :-)

I look forward to interacting with you all. (Is it me or did that sound overly formal? haha I didn't intend for it to be.)

message 2892: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Sharp (margaretlynettesharp) | 1215 comments Hi Sabina! It's great that you've chosen books as an escape from the everyday life! So much more insightful than television...:)

message 2893: by Sabina (new)

Sabina (ms_delirium) Margaret wrote: "Hi Sabina! It's great that you've chosen books as an escape from the everyday life! So much more insightful than television...:)"

Yes, I've always preferred books. I can't even watch a movie without doing something else at the same time. Just doesn't hold my attention. Books are far more interesting. I'm glad my son loves books. It will be good for him in the future. :)

message 2894: by Pete (new)

Pete Loveday (plover6345) Welcome Sabina
Good luck with your studies and I guess your three year old will also provide a range of studies, too!
BTW your introduction was fine.

A very big welcome Sabina! Lovely to have you with us, and yes, as Pete said, your intro was great! Books are the absolute best thing aren't they!! If there is one thing I couldn't be without in life, it's BOOKS!!

message 2898: by KJ (new)

KJ Welcome Sabina!

I'm a newbie too :)

message 2899: by Amber (new)

Amber (ukaunz) Hi again everyone and thanks for the warm welcome, you are a nice bunch here. Hi to all the other newbies too :-) I'll try to keep interacting with you all, in between all the reading I'll be doing now that I've signed up for two challenges. Sometimes it's hard to think of what to say... (Sabina, a lot of what you wrote reminds me of me!)

message 2900: by KJ (new)

KJ Awww...all these lovely welcome messages to/from everyone, it warms the soul!
