Hi Margaret. :)

message 2802: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Burrows | 9 comments Hello everyone. Well, I'm a writer and a lawyer (specialising in medical law) and historian and I live in Perth. It's all grist for the mill when writing a romantic murder mystery set in world war 2 Perth. My first novel A Stranger in My Street is being published by Pan Macmillan in June (it'll be in the shops in late May) and it's very exciting to see the culmination of years of effort. But I've discovered that once you get bitten with the writing bug, it's unstoppable, so I'm working on my second murder mystery, also set in the war, and researching for a thriller set at the University of Western Australia in 1950. (Speaking of being bitten, my husband is now totally addicted to the Never Ending Book Quiz and the ridiculously high score on my page is him, not me at all!)

Hi, Deborah, and congratulations on your TBR novel!

:) Georgina.

message 2805: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Burrows | 9 comments Thanks Georgina, and Michael and Jess.
It's like dream, really. But sad, too in a way, as the impetus was stories my mother told me, and she passed away last August. She knew the novel was being published and was dedicated to her, but she didn't see it in print.

Who says that she's not watching your progress with joy, right now? :)

Christopher Ruz | 18 comments Hey all,
I'm a Melbourne based scifi/fantasy reader and part time author. I also work in a bookshop (Of Science and Swords on Little Collins st) so I get to drown myself in books most days of the week. It's great to see such a big Aussie community here on Goodreads.

message 2814: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) Welcome Christopher, nice to have more males here. That bookshop you work at sounds awesome

message 2831: by Rhiannon (new)

Rhiannon | 10 comments Hi everybody,
My name is Rhiannon and I am a 20 year old Sydneysider. I am a psychology student with an avid interest in exploring relationships in all their contexts, and I am extremely impressed as I am reading the posts on this thread and realising that I am delving into a community full of writers (ranging from those just starting out, to extremely professional writers with many published works). It's very exciting, I can think of very few communities more stimulating and exciting than one full of book lovers!
A young lady whose blog I follow posted about this Aussie Readers group, and I just couldn't resist the temptation of participating in the discussions- I made a Goodreads account straight away! I spent all day every day reading as a little girl all the way up to high school, and then sadly that fell away to only reading 3 or 4 books a year in favour of music, movies, boys and other teenage temptations. I have decided to take part in the Winter Challenge 2012 in hopes of getting back to that place where my imagination and vocabulary were benefiting from constantly being subsumed in somebody else's fascinating world. It will be the first book challenge I have ever done and I can't wait! :):)

Rhiannon | 10 comments Hey everybody, thankyou so much for the warm welcome!

And hey there Carmel :) I am in my second year of psychology too, and it is wonderful to hear of other Goodreaders and their families with similar interests! I attend Macquarie University, and I am loving second year psychology but at the same time finding it very challenging. I imagine your daughter would be saying the same thing? Does she know which area of psychology she is interested in pursuing yet? I am pretty set on Organisational (Business) Psychology, although the clinical stuff is also really really interesting. I have heard of a couple of friends of friends that are studying out at the Bendigo campus say that they really love their time spent there :) Thankyou again for the lovely warm welcome.

Pete Loveday (plover6345) Hi to both Rhiannon and Susie and Dean. Welcome to the group and lets share a love of books.
Whilst not a writer, being married to one gives me an insight into the creative process.
Fascinating, how a person can write, eat breakfast and issue the days orders, all at the same time!

Monica Lamperd | 51 comments Hi all! Popping in to introduce myself - I'm Monica, 21 years old from a little town north of Melbourne. Currently studying Primary Education at uni. Have only been seriously using GoodReads for a couple of months but it's really inspired me to get back into reading (there's been a bit of a dry period since the latter years of high school!) so I am loving it so far! And very excited to find this group of Aussies who are just as passionate. Looking forward to chatting with you all! :)
