That's the way Rachael, much cheaper than buying them, and definitely a lot lighter for backpacking;D

Good grief - If Kermit thought it wasn't easy being green, what about introverted writers having to network, become involved, push themselves forward, and all such unnatural activities...
But it's nice being here anyway.

Hi Rachael and welcome.
Yes I agree. The Slap is worth reading.
Here are a few others that I’ve read this year and recommend
Past the Shallows
Me and Mr Booker
Desert Fish
Addition

Welcome Robert. Good luck with the book.

Welcome Kathryn, lovely to have you with us:) Hope you enjoy browsing the threads, and participating in the chats and recommendations! Thanks for the links to your blog and paintings:)

Below the Surface - lovely painting, Kathryn. reminds me of Aboriginal paintings. I guess with your empathy with the land you would absorb their feeling for country.

It is disturbingly addictive... :)

Hi Michael. Just finished reading the slap. Can't decide whether i liked it or not. I thought the content and themes were brilliant but i hated the characters and thought the language was too much. I'm glad i read it thought- thanks for recommending it to me :)

I've been trying to look out for more Aussie authors lately and thanks in advance to all the posters who make suggestions.

I consider myself an avid reader. That has only increased following my retirement from hospital management 2 years ago. I also retired from a career in the U.S. Navy. My Naval career almost brought me to Perth, Australia. I conpleted my 3 years on board and departed from my ship in Yokosuka, Japan in January 1971 just as she deployed to the Indian Ocean. At the end of that deployment she had a port call at Perth, Australia. I would VERY MUCH have loved to be able to visit your country, but after living in Japan for almost 3 years, my wife and I were anxious to get home.
I became an Aussie-book fan when I read Nevil Shute's A Town Like Alice. Since I finished it, I have read almost all of his other books. I recently picked up the first four of his books on the library shelf that I hadn't read and finished all four in 8 days. These included: Most Secret, Landfall, THE LEGACY, and Requiem for a Wren. I didn't realize when I checked it out that THE LEGACY was an alternate title (in Great Britain, I think) for A TOWN LIKE ALICE, which I'd previously read. I read it again and thoroughly enjoyed it again.
A very big welcome to you Gerald! Lovely to have you with us and you certainly can start your post with 'G'Day Mates' ;D I've read your other posts, and your list of authors is very impressive...great that you love the Aussie authors as well!
Welcome Ectes, lovely to have you with us! Hope you enjoy browsing and chatting about our favourite things...books;) And no, we don't hold being a Kiwi against you, we have a few:)

Just joined Good Reads and this group in particular and am having a ball so far!! Introductions - well I'm the very definition of a bibliophile and am lucky enough to spend every day in the company of over 40,000 books. I run an online secondhand bookstore called Reading Habit (http://www.readinghabit.com.au)that I built from scratch with lots of blood, sweat, tears and love. I also write a blog called Feed Your Reading Habit (http://feedyourreadinghabit.blogspot.com). I would love to hear what you think about it!! I don't like specifying any one type of book that I love reading....but I will admit to adoring Jane Austen and the classics in general. That's it for now!! Happy reading!!

Welcome Amber...see I told you we are a friendly bunch:D I also have bookmarked your blog, when I have some spare time, I'm going to go through it thoroughly!

Brenda - definitely a friendly bunch. It's good to find somewhere to talk to people about books in the same time zone. Glad that you've bookmarked my blog...I might even give the group a plug on it soon!
