Btw carob I am 10 houses from golden beach HELLZ YA

David, I've heard Tasmania is simply stunning, but haven't had the pleasure myself. I must admit to not being a fan of the cold, so the warmer weather up here suits me just fine for the moment (it's a different story in January and Feb!). There's a lot of great info so far within this group!
Max - near Caloundra? Lucky duck! I'm not too far from Coolum Beach myself... but still need a car to get there :-p
Thanks Brenda :-)

I would love to see that one, but it's not likely I'll even get over there, let alone see the zoo!!

I've always been an avid reader of light fiction, more so since the increased popularity of ebooks has made them more affordable. I've owned a Kobo, now wou..."
Hi Caro.. enjoy

And hmmmm more and more ppl are talking positivly about ebooks might have to look into getting one in the new year maybe."
Do it! You won't regret it.
I was very hesitant about an e-reader as I love my books, browsing bookshelves and the tactile experience of reading a book. There will still always be certain books that I want to have a physical copy of, but in general ebooks have won me over.
An e-reader is so convenient to take with you, I went on a week long holiday and read half a dozen books, I didn't realise how much that actually was untl I saw how fat they were in the bookstore. Then there's the cost and convenience, I can finish one anytime and browse and download the next one. Plus I've discovered a lot of authors I probably wouldn't have found otherwise.
Anyhow, I was unconvinced so I started by downloading the kindle app on my phone (free) to try out the experience. A couple of months later I got my first e-reader (even better without the back lighting - and feels more bookish) and have never looked back....
Emily, what sort of e-reader do you have? I'm in the same situation as you were, very unsure! Love my books, the feel of them, receiving a new one in the mail/from the store!!! How do you go with the e-reader in bed, as that's where I do most of my reading?

I got a light which fits in my kindle cover, so it's actually easier to read in bed now as I can roll around and still see the page! I really enjoy my kindle, using the phone app first helped me ease into it without such a big commitment and when I finally did get the e-reader it felt more like holding a real book :)

My only advice would be to research it well. Check out product review sites like cnet.com.au, and don't be tempted by the cheapo brands. Kobo, Nook, Kindle and Sony are the main players and if anything goes wrong with your investment (and you will think of it as such once you get one) you'll want something where the tech-support is seamless.
Phew! I'll get off my soapbox now, sorry :-)

Really, don't you ever read paper books now?

Oh sorry...I see:) I still don't think I could stop reading my paper books, but you never know!!!

Hi, I'm an Aussie and was born in the outback, but grew up in Melbourne.
I wanted to be an opera singers and went to opera school for 3 years, but wasn't good enough to make it. The training and knowledge I received was invaluabe and the seeds for my first novel, Vissi d'arte, were sown.
My family were an unusual lot. There were adoptions, secrets, tragedy, conflicts and a disputed inheritance over a property caused lifelong divisions and trauma. As some of the events affected me, I wrote a novel about that too.

Hi Joanna, a very big welcome to you! Lovely to have you with us:) Please feel free to browse the threads and add your recommendations for any books you love. We also have an Aussie author thread http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5.... Pop over there and have a look at what our other authors have done.
Vissi d'arte by Joanna Stephen-Ward is the first book you mentioned, what was the other one? It sounds like it'd be an interesting novel, with lots of intrigue!

Liked, Tagged and downloaded a sample of your book, Joanna. You seem to have many talents - writing and singing.

Laurel, Many thanks for liking and tagging my book. Hope you enjoy the sample. The book is quite long, so the first 4 chapters are free, which will give you a fair idea.

Thanks for the welcome, Michael. Yes, it was compeditive, even if you were an excellent singer, which I wasn't. But no experience is ever wasted, and I had lots of fun at opera school.

Do you have a favourite opera, and singer? Sorry y..."
Hi Carmel, I went travelling, met a lovely man and we now live in England. Very wet and cold, but I was never very good with heat, and the bonus is that everywhere is lovely and green. My husband loves Australia, but he finds the heat difficult too. We go there as often as we can. Next trip is planned for 2014. And as, I ashamed to admit, I've never been to Bendigo, we'll like to visit when we are over there. We went to Ballarat and even found a few specs of gold!

Thanks Joanna! I'll have to add it to my mountainous TBR list!!

Wow! You sure did move a long way from home! I'm afraid I couldn't leave Australia, I love it too much, and I definitely think we have a wonderful country. I agree about the heat, especially the humidity, but one grows used to it! (not that I ever have...lol)
When you come back in 2014, definitely go to Bendigo, it's beautiful. But if you can make it to Newcastle, NSW, you'll find it's also a beautiful city!
My daughter lived in London for a time, and worked at Miss Selfridges, then Harrods....

Reader, writer, reader, publisher, reader, editor.
Read almost anything anytime. In fact I read most of the day for work.

I have been reading mostly paranormal romance and UF these last couple of years but I'm starting to feel the need to break it up with something different, I've been searching for some new contemporary romance authors and have found a couple of good ones.
I also enjoy crime (love the James Patterson books & the J.D.Robb series) a horror now and then, comedy, I'm reading "One for the Money" by Janet Evanovich at the moment and getting a good laugh.
I'm looking forward to chatting with everyone here and finding out what everyones favorite books are.

I have been reading ..."
Welcome Kaz. I really enjoyed Janet Evanovich books, and hope you do to. Some of the more recent (except no 17) were a bit tame, but I will on occasions go back and reread some of the early ones. I wonder how well the movie of "One for the Money" will go, which will be released next year.
