message 2172: by Michael (last edited Aug 17, 2011 09:30AM) (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) 1001 Books to Read Before You Die list from my blog, cuz it's one of my reading goals too.

Also there has been 3 versions of the 1001 book list, but I've stuck with the original. I have all three lists in a spreadsheet that I mark off.

Among my favourite Australian books are The White Earth by Andrew McGahan, A Fringe of Leaves by Patrick White and War's End by Victoria Bowen. On September 1, 2011, my first novel will be released. It's entitled Mammon and is Book One of the Ferryman Chronicles.

J.B. Thomas (jbthomas) | 4 comments Yes, Carmel, I must say that the beaches here are gorgeous. It was a balmy 23 degrees C today. Not bad for mid-winter. Having said that, there aren't many places in Oz that I don't like visiting!

message 2183: by Chantal (new)

Chantal Grech | 17 comments Thanks Carmel and Michael :) Carmel I try to go to Bendigo for the sheep and wool show each year though I missed it this last couple due to study. I tend to go nuts in the yarn section!

Thank you Dee-Ann, my list is the result of a life time of reading and you can get a lot read in 47 years. I spent a lot of my childhood with my head buried in an Enid Blyton, I think I read them all but I don't bother to list children's books. I was lucky enough to grow up in a house that had very good books on the shelves so I suppose that was an influence.

message 2190: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 33 comments ★ Jess wrote: "1001 books? Can anyone post a link to this list?"

Jess here is a link to the Listopia list, which is actually unfinished as yet
http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/95...

Another link to a spreadsheet of the complete list
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/c...

I think this list is a little different to the one I started from, there are plenty out there if you google it. I am lucky in that my local library has a shelf named 1001 Books you must read before you die! ( It appeared after I started using the list and I do wonder if it was because they were sick of having to get books out of stack for me!)
I only use the list as a reference point, I searched it out so I would know which books were worth reading, I was tired of being disappointed with the quality of writing of books I read.

message 2191: by Christine (new)

Christine | 3 comments Hi All,
My name is Christine and I'm from Melbourne. I read most genres though I do have a soft spot for a good Science Fiction/Fantasy book. One of my favorite books of all time To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis has Romance, Time Travel, Mystery, Historical and Comedy all rolled into one :-).

Favorite authors at the moment include China Mieville, Neil Stephenson, Neil Gaiman and Connie Willis.
