Hi! I'm Sarah, and live in QLD...
I joined this group because I was just so sick being the only Aussie, and needed some familiar topics!

Hi Sarah! That's the same reason I joined Aussie Readers! Hope you have some fun in the group.;)
A big welcome to all our lovely new members, great to have you with us. You'll enjoy your time in our group, we always have lots of fun..:D

Hi Sarah! me too i was so excited to find a group specially for Aussies - welcome :D

I live in Tasmania, which has a good reading in front of the fire climate (even in February!!).
I will read just about anything, psychological thrillers and character driven novels are probably my favourite. I love dry and black humour. I can't read YA - this is probably because I am so old. I can't read Fantasy this is probably because I am so cynical.

Hi Kristy! We have a few group members who love audio books. You might be interested in our discussion about them. Here is the link: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...

Big welcome Patricia! Lovely to have you with us. What age are your children's adventure stories for? I'm a great admirer of those people who are in WIRES (is that yours?) I'd love to participate in that, but just don't have the room.

So far, I've cared for a baby bandicoot, a frogmouth, a Water dragon, a whole family of antechinus, injured ducks and birds, rescued 3 joey's from their dead mothers'. I took them for special care though as you have to have them for a whole year and it's difficult with young grandkids about. Joeys need care like a baby, feeding every few hours. Though I did that with the bandicoot I called Furble. I only had him for two and a half weeks though, then released back to the wild. I wrote a kids story about him and will be publishing soon.
My published books are one Chapter book for reluctant readers, sort of like Ginger Megs or Junie B Jones. My other published book is a fantasy story for kids aged eight to twelve, though adults seem to enjoy it too. At the moment, I'm writing the sequels.
Nice to meet you, Brenda.
Patricia wrote: "Hi Brenda. Yes, it's a branch of Wires. I take phone calls from my home phone and do rescues in my area. Plus sometimes I care for the animals too. The phone work it full on, phone never stops ring..."
Wow, that's great Patricia..you are one busy lady! Love all the animals you care for, would be so satisfying for you to know you can release them back into the wild, and they have a better than good chance of survival!
The reason I asked about your kids books, is I have a 5yo grandson, who loves books. So yours wouldn't be suitable for him yet..the fantasy stories would be a possibility when he is older. He just started school this year, and is loving it.

Brenda, my book, Star-Crossed Rascals is suitable for five to eight-year-olds and is an illustrated chapter book about a couple of seven-year-old rascals who get up to mischief.
Guess what? We are about the same age. LOL.
We are, Patricia...I'm a little older than you..;) I have put Star-Crossed Rascals on my TBR list, it sounds great, I'm thinking I'll get it for Jarrah's birthday, which isn't until November, when he'll be 6. He'll have learnt a lot more at school by then.
I just read all about you, and you have done so well for yourself after a not so good start at school. Congratulations on all you've achieved, it's certainly a credit to you. :)

Thanks for the welcomes!! I will check out the auidobook thread.

Big welcome to the group Patricia! You sound like a very talented and big-hearted person. It will be lovely getting to know you.:)

."
Mandy, that is so nice of you. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Jan, thanks for the kind words. I made my first book trailer videos this week. One for each story. That was fun and I didn't know how it would turn out. It's surprising what we can do once we try.
Thank you for making me so welcome.

Thanks Brenda. I better warn you that Star-Crossed Rascals, is about a very mischievous seven-year-old who's always in trouble. She's not mean, but more of a dare devil. I wrote it to make kids laugh, not to encourage them to be naughty. I wasn't sure the local schools would even accept my to donation of this book, as it's a little gross, but the principals said these types of stories encourage the reluctant reader. So I'm thrilled it's been added to their libraries.
Haha, yes, Brenda, I didn't do very well at school and this story is from some of my memories of a seven-year-old. I'm a late learner.
I hope your grandson gets a good laugh.

Hi Patty, I'm Trish and I live in northern NSW. I also write fantasy as well as children's chapter books and Y/A.

Only joined Goodreads yesterday, following a link from BookCrossing, but am excited to find a place I can track what I, and others, are reading :]

Big welcome to the group Joyce! Look forward to chatting with you!:)

Hello and welcome to you all. This Aussie group is just wonderful and I'm sure you will enjoy your time here. :o)

My name is Paul, but you can call me, ummm, errr, Paul?
I currently own a small secondhand bookstore in Lithgow, NSW, and am an avid reader and, like a lot of big readers, tried my hand at writing as well. Had one short story published in an anthology with a second going to the printers shortly.
Looking forward to meeting you all.
Welcome to the group Ummm, Errr, Paul we look forward to your contributions to the discussions. :)

Mandy - I am not sure what the mix is but there better be chocolate in there somewhere :)
Paul, Brenda is in charge of our chocolate department..

MMmmm! Chocolate...
Very big welcome Paul...and yes, there seems to always be chocolate around me....*grins sheepishly*

My name's Matt and I'm a reader and a writer. Well, okay, more of a writer at the moment, but I do hope to read more soon. I keep finding books to borrow of my boyfriend, heh.
Anyway, I'm based in Melbourne, write fiction and have published m/m fiction (and when I mean published I mean just come out in eBook and still waiting on the print version). Just starting my professional writing career I guess, but still love hanging out with other people who love words.
*gives more chocolate to Brenda. Seriously, everyone keeps giving me the stuff*
