Kristyh | 3 comments Hi, I'm Kristy. I am a constant reader. I mostly listen to audio books, this is 1) so I can be hands free 2) so I don't have to listen to my children constantly squabbling.

I live in Tasmania, which has a good reading in front of the fire climate (even in February!!).

I will read just about anything, psychological thrillers and character driven novels are probably my favourite. I love dry and black humour. I can't read YA - this is probably because I am so old. I can't read Fantasy this is probably because I am so cynical.

message 1161: by Maggi (new)

Maggi Andersen Yes, I write historical romance, romantic suspense and young adult novels. You can learn more about me at my website: http://www.maggiandersenauthor.com Any one going to the ARRC? (Australian Romance Readers Convention)

message 1162: by Maggi (new)

Maggi Andersen Hi Kirsty, you sound like a realist. I bet you like British novelists. Plenty of dry humour there. Lucky you, curled up by the fire with a book in beautiful Tassie.

Big welcome Patricia! Lovely to have you with us. What age are your children's adventure stories for? I'm a great admirer of those people who are in WIRES (is that yours?) I'd love to participate in that, but just don't have the room.

message 1168: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Puddle (trishapuddle) | 86 comments Hi Brenda. Yes, it's a branch of Wires. I take phone calls from my home phone and do rescues in my area. Plus sometimes I care for the animals too. The phone work it full on, phone never stops ringing and I have call waiting too.

So far, I've cared for a baby bandicoot, a frogmouth, a Water dragon, a whole family of antechinus, injured ducks and birds, rescued 3 joey's from their dead mothers'. I took them for special care though as you have to have them for a whole year and it's difficult with young grandkids about. Joeys need care like a baby, feeding every few hours. Though I did that with the bandicoot I called Furble. I only had him for two and a half weeks though, then released back to the wild. I wrote a kids story about him and will be publishing soon.

My published books are one Chapter book for reluctant readers, sort of like Ginger Megs or Junie B Jones. My other published book is a fantasy story for kids aged eight to twelve, though adults seem to enjoy it too. At the moment, I'm writing the sequels.

Nice to meet you, Brenda.

Wow, that's great Patricia..you are one busy lady! Love all the animals you care for, would be so satisfying for you to know you can release them back into the wild, and they have a better than good chance of survival!
The reason I asked about your kids books, is I have a 5yo grandson, who loves books. So yours wouldn't be suitable for him yet..the fantasy stories would be a possibility when he is older. He just started school this year, and is loving it.

Brenda, my book, Star-Crossed Rascals is suitable for five to eight-year-olds and is an illustrated chapter book about a couple of seven-year-old rascals who get up to mischief.

Guess what? We are about the same age. LOL.

We are, Patricia...I'm a little older than you..;) I have put Star-Crossed Rascals on my TBR list, it sounds great, I'm thinking I'll get it for Jarrah's birthday, which isn't until November, when he'll be 6. He'll have learnt a lot more at school by then.
I just read all about you, and you have done so well for yourself after a not so good start at school. Congratulations on all you've achieved, it's certainly a credit to you. :)

Jan, thanks for the kind words. I made my first book trailer videos this week. One for each story. That was fun and I didn't know how it would turn out. It's surprising what we can do once we try.

Thank you for making me so welcome.

Thanks Brenda. I better warn you that Star-Crossed Rascals, is about a very mischievous seven-year-old who's always in trouble. She's not mean, but more of a dare devil. I wrote it to make kids laugh, not to encourage them to be naughty. I wasn't sure the local schools would even accept my to donation of this book, as it's a little gross, but the principals said these types of stories encourage the reluctant reader. So I'm thrilled it's been added to their libraries.

Haha, yes, Brenda, I didn't do very well at school and this story is from some of my memories of a seven-year-old. I'm a late learner.

I hope your grandson gets a good laugh.

Paul Phillips Hi all,

My name is Paul, but you can call me, ummm, errr, Paul?

I currently own a small secondhand bookstore in Lithgow, NSW, and am an avid reader and, like a lot of big readers, tried my hand at writing as well. Had one short story published in an anthology with a second going to the printers shortly.

Looking forward to meeting you all.

Matthew Lang (matthewlang) | 143 comments Hi guys.

My name's Matt and I'm a reader and a writer. Well, okay, more of a writer at the moment, but I do hope to read more soon. I keep finding books to borrow of my boyfriend, heh.

Anyway, I'm based in Melbourne, write fiction and have published m/m fiction (and when I mean published I mean just come out in eBook and still waiting on the print version). Just starting my professional writing career I guess, but still love hanging out with other people who love words.

*gives more chocolate to Brenda. Seriously, everyone keeps giving me the stuff*
