Hi Gail,

Absolutely loving North and South. It is beautifully written and so hard to put down. I love the proper way they act towards each other during this time period but at the same time find it so frustrating. It is amazing how people can delude themselves into thinking their feelings are one way when in reality they are the opposite simply for doing what is proper and expected of them.

Elizabeth Martin (elizabethmartin) | 8 comments Thanks Gail for helping me with the photo. I'm not sure I yelled loudly; more of a repetitive nagging I must have picked up from my kids!

Thanks that I can enjoy your group and Have a nice day everyone.

message 960: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (rizeandshine) Hi, all! I'm Pat. I'm American, not Aussie, but I tend to love things that come from Australia, like music, movies, sports and food. I have yet to visit your beautiful country, but I am planning a trip soon. I was hoping to make it for a couple of footy games this year as well as to Easterfest to see Peter Furler and PC3, but my oldest daughter is in college now and the budget is tight. If not this year, then next! I've read a few books by Australian authors, but I'm looking forward to reading more. I've just joined the Aussie Author's Challenge. I read 4 books by Aussie authors last year without even trying, so I may as well go for True Blue and see what happens. I have quite a few Aussie books in my to-read list!

Tammy (plannergypsy) Hi all,
I am a new member, just joined up today. I actually only just joined good reads a couple of days ago, but i think i'm already addicted. ;)
I currently am living in SA, just moved back here after living in the USA for 8 years.
I am a BIG reader.. when we moved back here i had 5 bookcases of books to get rid of (couldnt bring them, shipping price was astronomical), so i am currently in the process of rebuilding my book collection.
Looking forward to being part of the group.
:)

Yes, I'm finding it quite addictive here as well. Just makes me want to read more. LOL
I can't imagine having to leave all those books behind. Must have been difficult. Sounds like a collection on an eReader could have been a good thing for you in this case.

Have fund restocking your shelves. :o)

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments Hi all.
I have just joined Goodreads, it was recommended to me by someone on livejournal, Brisvegus after Librarything annoyed me.

I live in Brisbane having moved here from Cairns about five years ago, but I have lived all over Australia. I work horrible shifts in a pathology laboratory. I travel o/s whenever possible, most recently Fiji. I read omnivorously and quite fast – city libraries are my best friends.

Guy | 12 comments Hi everyone,

I'm not an Aussie, but if you would call me an aussiephile I wouldn't be offended :) I'm from Belgium, but I have travelled extensively around Australia. It's certainly one of my top 3 countries in the world. I also have quite a few Australian books in my home library. Right now I'm reading Mailman of the Birdsville Track: The Story of Tom Kruse. Well there you go, I hope to discover many new and interesting Aussie books to read in this group.

Cheers, Guy

message 987: by Kass (new)

Kass | 9 comments Hi everyone,

I live in Melbourne and consider myself a 'chain reader' - I put down one book and instantly pick up another. I am currently trying to work my way through my non'fiction collection and resist buying new books. Visiting the library is a dangerous 'sport' as I usually leave with an arm load I can't possible read by the due date. I especially love Australian picture book and young adult authors.
I'm a primary school teacher and my number one goal is to pass on a passion for reading to my students.
Looking forward to being a part of Goodreads and this forum.

:) Kass

New Zealand - you would be amazed at how much they rib us Aussies

message 998: by Neko (new)

Neko Ooohhhh, I've always wanted to go to NZ, nearly went then didn't..booo~!. I can believe they'd give Aussie shit..ahaha! But don't worry, in the Mercury (Tassie paper) reccently there was a thing about people moving to Tassie..And we've apparently had a hiiiiiigh influx of Kiwi's moving over to this island. Ask em WHAT'S up with that then? Mayby the ribbin' will stop then..hahaha

Hi Rena I lived in NZ for a year and could not resist buying a T-Shirt that claimed something along these lines - "I support New Zealand and any team playing Australia". They do love to give us a hard time. :)

Hello Guy - welcome to the group!

Aussie authors - older ones - are Ernestine Hill, Ion Idriess for non-fiction. Eleanor Dark wrote "The Timeless Land", oh, there's lots more. Ivan Southall wrote non-fiction books about W.W.II, best were "Softly Tread The Brave" and "They Shall Not Pass Unseen" about Australians in the RAF flying boat squadrons. And children's books. Nancy Cato wrote novels, notably "All The Rivers Run." I expect you've heard of all of them.

There was a television special about Tom Kruse a few years ago; very interesting. Remarkable man, simply thought he was doing his job.
