Introduce yourselves!

Oh yes! And then some! =o)
Welcome

Baz here, grew up in Sydney and now living in Brisbane.
I'll read anything dark (horror/supernatural/thriller) and a tiny bit of everything else.
I'm trying my hand at a couple of short stories this winter too as a bit of a hobby :)
It will be nice to be able to say 'this winter' in this group and not have to explain myself to the Northern Hemispherians. It will be nice to refer to Celsius and metric measurements too haha.

Do you say Fall in Perth Ryan??? lol

My name is Kylie and I'm a special ed teacher in North-West Victoria. (Originally from the South-West).
I have no idea why it's taken me so long to discover Goodreads! I've been a bookworm for as long as I can remember... however was diagnosed with Keratoconus (a degenerative eye disease of the cornea) in addition to my short-sightedness just before I started uni which makes life interesting! So reading for pleasure has become somewhat of a challenge. Thank goodness for audiobooks and e-books which I can listen to or enlarge the text! I still prefer the traditional old-school books on paper to e-books though.
My favourite genres lean towards Historical Romance/Mystery, Chick-Lit and Romance. I'll read pretty much anything though, not over keen on sci-fi and fantasy having said that!
Looking forward to getting to know fellow Aussie bookworms through this group and taking on the challenges where possible!
Kylie. :)
Welcome Kylie :) Wonderful to have you with us! So sorry to hear about your eye problems - I hope you can do uni with audio? Good you've managed a work around as well... I hope you enjoy our group :)

Hi Brenda, Thank you for the kind welcome!
And thank you for your kind words too. I should have made myself clearer, I was diagnosed with KC 12 years ago now. And because I loved (still do obviously lol) reading I chose literature as my sub-major to my teaching degree so after I finished uni back in 2009 my eyes wanted a break from reading for a bit. Starting teaching certainly didn't allow me too much time to sit and read until I got into the swing of things!

I also want to say hello to all my fellow newbies, Baz, Stella, Theresa, Carlee and Jade! :)

Ahh see :) Well I'm certainly glad you're able to read for pleasure now, whether it be in audio form or ebook - or paper for that matter! I'd be devastated if I couldn't read!!

Hooray I recognise somebody! Haha"
:-) This is a great group, Baz!

Haha, me too! I would be lost if I couldn't lose myself in a book!
If you're interested Keratoconus is where the corneas are cone-shaped and thin, and bumpy. Basically everything the cornea shouldn't be! If it gets bad enough, people who have this can only wear specially made contact lenses to correct the vision properly. Many people also have short-sightedness on top of it also!
In short, my "normal" eyesight is so bad I'm deemed legally blind, but with specially made contacts (well currently in my right eye only - which is my better eye) I'm almost 20/20 corrected. Some days the vision is more distorted than normal. My left eye was unable to be corrected as of Jan 2016 (last year was not good eye-wise for me!) and I had a corneal graft at the end of October. Currently unassisted in that eye until the eye heals properly, but I'm slowly getting some improvements in that eye.
Whoops, probably went into a little too much detail and off track there!
Good luck with the obviously ongoing work on your eye sight Kylie. It's amazing what the experts can do nowadays...I wish you all the luck in the world :)

Welcome Kylie. I love Audiobooks and ebooks too.

Welcome! Those of us in the US just adjust to your world here!

Hi Kylie! Welcome
Who doesn't like books that read themselves! I just started listening to a series on audio book for the second time!! =o)

And hehe too true Li'l Owl! Part of me feels it's like "cheating," however it's great to be able to read something once I've got no "eyes" in and being able to read while travelling. Unfortunately I found out when I was about 12 that I couldn't read proper books in a moving vehicle. So big tick for audiobooks there!

I had that problem too Kylie, but i found that lying low in the back seat, not seeing the road go by, i could read........can't do that now. Ah the joys of being 10 & an only child!

Yep! me too with the motion sickness! Here's a toast to audio books! =o)

My name is Dom, and I'm Australian (3 years, as of two weeks ago) and would consider myself a recreational reader. I don't know if such a word exists, but basically I enjoy reading for the pure pleasure of reading. I don't do it every day, and I don't crank out 200 books a year. I have set myself a modest goal of 30 books this year, which I am already behind on :,) but if there's one thing I live by (regards to reading) is that I never force myself to do it! I want it to be pleasurable, not a chore!
That said, I'm 28 (nearly 29) and I enjoy: historical fiction, fantasy/adventure, classics, some sci-fi, and a whole slew of random things in between.
I sometimes feel I was born in the wrong era, as I'm a fan of eloquence, chivalry, and etiquette.
Other interests include: video games, sports, writing.
I don't have any friends here on Goodreads (yet), but am hoping to meet some fellow book lovers, and to discuss our latest reads, and such!
Hoping you're all having wonderful days, and thanks for reading! :)
-Dom

I have read the Light between Oceans and currently have The Dry on hold. It's the books that look so good that I can't find here in Canada that I was thinking to ask her to bring for me. I love Kate Morton and Liane Moriarty and they are all available here, but I have to be selective in what I ask her to bring me - one, maybe 2 at the most. Thanks for your all your help. S.
