So I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone is reading and hanging out with some like-minded folks. I'm currently a third of the way through Girl With a Pearl Earring and completely loving it. It's one of those books that you just can't stop thinking about for the few moments of the day that you're not reading it.

Check out the various threads Asa-Marie - we're in the midst of our January challenge as well as a couple of Annual challenges. Everyone's lists are varied ;)

I have been a bookworm since the year dot and used to record each year's digested books in a little notebook when I was in primary and high school. Then life intervened so it's lovely to resume an old habit and have gone back (in my mind) and tried to recall them all so I can add them to my ever growing GR listing.
The only thing is, that as I complete one book, and then look at the Aussie and Summer challenge reader entries, I seem to add 5 or 6 more to read. At this rate I'll need to love a very long time.
I enjoy historical romances, human rights (espec disability issues), autobiogs, mysteries and sci fi (as long as they aren't too gory or scary), kids books, dog tales, patchwork and craft books and more...Connecting to the GRs group has reignited my love of reading and helped put facebook back where it belongs- in the background.
I'm looking forward to discovering more books and kindle reads for the shelves. (I just found the listing of free book sites Brenda and co posted and others are adding to, so am off to explore more....)

Nice to meet you.
You'll like this group a lot! I'm from New Mexico, USA and I've found the BEST group of people here. Even though I'm not from Australia, everyone has opened their arms to me and welcomed me. I just joined in November and I've made many new wonderful friends already. I think it's safe to say that you will too!
If you want to fatten up your book shelves this is definitely the hottest spot for that! Beware though, and be careful what you wish for!! You'll probably have to book a reservation for an extra large cloud for yourself in order to take them with you to heaven, just like the rest of us! So explore away! If you ever need any help, you can ask anyone here. It's the best book club in the world!
Happy reading! =o)

I mostly write romance but I read all sorts of books incl..."
Hiya Casey,
It may have taken a while for you to find this group, but I think you'll find that it was worth the wait. This is the best group of book addicts I've ever met. And I'm from New Mexico, USA. Everyone here is friendly, helpful, and welcoming. I always say to be careful what you wish for! If your like most of us here, you'll probably find new books to read faster than you can possibly read them!
Happy Reading! =o)

Hiya Asa-Marie,
I know this welcome post is a little late since we met yesterday on the A-Z challenge page. This is the best book club I've ever had the pleasure of being a member of. I think you'll find that you were lucky enough to join us all here on your first try! Well done!
I've tried quite a few book clubs in the past, all with similar 'not so much on the positive side', if you catch my meaning.. As you have seen already, everyone here is friendly, nice, and more than happy to help if you need.
Pleased to meet you. You have a very pretty name. =o)
Happy reading! =o)

My name is Nigel, and I live in Brisbane. Have always loved reading, quite a range of tastes, but I guess mostly historical fiction and crime (in its many variations), as well as s..."
Hiya Nigel,
Nice to meet you. Yea, I hadn't realized that men are in the minority here. Not to worry, though. I live in New Mexico, USA so that puts me in a minority too! It doesn't matter a bit. You'll find that you're most welcome in this group. As for finding new authors, I'll just say to be careful what you wish for! (this seems to be one of my favorite sayings)! You'll be up to your eyeballs with new authors and books in very short order! I had quite a few books on my shelves that I hadn't read yet when I joined in November. Now I'm up to my beak in them! I think I've added hundreds of books so far, and have enjoyed every minute of it. Don't let that bother you though, as I have absolutely no self control where books are concerned! If you have any questions, or your trying to find something specific, you can ask anybody in this group. This is a great group of people!
Happy reading. =o)

This is my first ever online group and I can't imagine a better one....reading and Australia, two of my favourite things!
I read most genres, but historical fiction, is my favourite. I am..."
Hiya Helena,
You're so right about this group. This is the friendliest bunch of people I've ever met, especially in the book club world! In the past, I'd tried to join several other book clubs but I wasn't able to find one that came even close to this one. This group definitely has the nicest, most welcoming people you'll ever meet. For any questions, just ask anyone. You'll get all the help you need. Glad you joined us. Good luck with your book.
Happy reading =o)

Hiya, Deborah,
Ooooh a new Kindle! Nice! You've come to the right place for books to put on it! I think I end up saying the same thing when people are looking forward to adding new authors &/or books. So here it is: Be careful what you wish for! We'll have your Kindle memory full in no time! I think you'll be very happy that your starting up reading again. I couldn't live without books! Now I have many friends who love them too. You'll fit right in. Everyone is wonderful here, and you'll get lots of help finding whatever books you're looking for. If you have any questions, just ask.
Happy reading! =o)

My name is Samantha, and I live by the beach in Victoria. I've been writing for a really long time and have just published my first novel 'The Bay of Shadows' (in keeping with my love of..."
Hiya Samantha,
Wow! A home by the ocean! Very nice! I live in New Mexico, USA, up in the mountains. No beaches here, or anywhere close for that matter. I've only been to a beach a handful of times. I think the last time I was on a beach was in 1994, when my family and I went to Florida for the 4th of July. We went to my very first NASCAR race at Daytona International Raceway, went to Epcot at Disney World, and to Daytona Beach for fireworks. It was fantastic! We can't have fireworks anywhere near as good because we don't have any big bodies of nearby. Also, the weather is usually too dry to be safe to not start a fire. =o( I wish I could go again!
I'll have to check out your new book. Congratulations! Publishing a book is not an easy thing. Well done! If you're looking forward to sharing books, you've come to the best place. Everyone here is great. You'll be swimming in books before very long! Just ask anyone if you have questions or are trying to find something specific.
Happy reading! =o)

I'm new and just wanted to introduce myself. I live in Melbourne and work as a computer technician full time.
I am an avid reader and will read lots of different genres so i don..."
Hiya Ash,
You'll fit in here with us perfectly! Obviously, we all practically live for books, but I think many of us would agree that a good book and a cuddle is heavenly! At least I do. Currently, I'm a stay at home mom, with my cats and dogs "kids". There's nothing better than a book and a cuddle, unless you add pajamas and a blanket! Since I fibromylagia, I'm at home mostly these days. Which gives me the perfect opportunity to see the world through books with a cuddler on my lap! But best of all is having my friends here in this group! I think you'll have a good time with us.
I like true crime too. Glad to have you here and am looking forward to getting to know you and share books with you. Everybody is really great in this group. If you have questions or are looking for something specific, any one of us can help. Just ask! Welcome!
Happy Reading! =o)

Welcome Kerrie - so nice to meet you :)

Thanks Michael, Brenda and everyone. It's great to be back in the land of books again. Today I was invited to join another book group that seems to be doing the fb rounds. It involves sending a fave book to a person nominated by someone else, and then, if all others who join the listing do their part, you end up receiving other people's faves. Kind of like the old share a recipe chain I guess. Worth a try anyway to explore some newbies. Will let you know if I come across any must read Oz books this way.

I also located online books from the WA library (for starters) but can't tell if you need to be a member to purchase. Must not be looking in right spot.
And final question - if you have read a book and want to keep it on your kindle can you zip/condense it or will the kindle app get 'full'? My list of 'want to reads' grows faster than my 'have reads' since joining Goodreads so I don't want it to crash as the have reads grow.
Apologies if this isn't the spot to ask- happy to move queries elsewhere once guided.
thanks, Kerrie
Kerrie, here's a spot to ask the question :) https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
No one would really see it here, so if you want to repost in the "Doesn't fit - book related - put it here" thread, you're likely to get answers :)

Someone else in the group became involved in that Kerrie and only told of one book she received from memory. Careful it's not a scam!

That's what I was wondering Michael. Will stay away and stick to other sources I'm aware of and have heard of on other Goodread pages. Ta.

I only just discovered Goodreads (yes, sounds odd for a writer lol), but am so excited to be part of this site. I've noticed books already that I can't wait to read!
I live on a small acreage north of Melbourne, along with my husband, 18 & 21 year old sons, and a gorgeous black Labrador named Maverick. We have a pet supplies business so obviously am an animal person and love both reading and writing about dogs.
My favourite fiction reading is around contemporary romance (particular love of coastal based stories), thrillers, speculative fiction, and science fiction. I probably would read anything though that has an awesome story and I am a sucker for happy endings.
Thanks for having me,
Phillipa
