Allison | 1 comments Hello everyone,
I'm not an Aussie (except at heart). I am a kindergarten teacher from California who loves reading and Australia. I was an exchange student in the Sydney area back in high school, and have returned a few times since. I will be back Dec/Jan for my honeymoon! My grandma and great grandma are also from the Adelaide area.

Hi, I'm an Aussie reader as well as a writer. I have self published three novels, with another one currently in the mill. I write about classic British motorcycles, a genre that is, so far, largely untapped. My books are available from me and through Amazon. My website is http://theoldmechanic1.wix.com/book. I also write short stories and dabble in poetry, and I'm a member of Stroud Writers.
Cheers, Peter

Pam (bluegrasspam) Hi! My name is Pam and I have never been to Australia. However, I would love to go there sometime! I live in New Mexico, US. Several months ago my husband told me he would never read a book set in Australia, NZ, Canada, Greenland, or Iceland. I don't know what his logic was for this statement but I'm determined to prove to him that there is great literature set in these countries! Looking forward to seeing which Australian authors you all recommend so I can read them & pass on my favorites to him!

Welcome, Pam. Tell us what kinds of books your husband likes to read (mystery, history, sport, war, fantasy) and maybe somebody can give you an inspired recommendation.

We read all kind of things, lots by Aussie authors but certainly not exclusively Aussie.

James Melouney Hi All,

Aussie reader and author.

Love a good non-fiction book, and need to get back into some novels!

Last book I read was Doris Kearns Goodwin's Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. Sensational book on leadership, superbly written.

Currently reading Plutarch's Parallel Lives.

Happy to be here and looking forward to getting some good novel recommendations from you all :) (Big fan of Dan Brown and similar works.)

Cheers,
James

Ace (aceonroam) Hi James, welcome. Non fiction still feels a little like homework to me, but I have read a few here and there.

message 7643: by James (new)

James Melouney Thanks Ace. Haha, sometimes it feels like that for me, too :) Luckily not too often, though!

message 7644: by Ace (new)

Ace (aceonroam) I try for one or two a year. Read Malala and also Henrietta Lacks. Truth is harder than fiction.

I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

G'day... I'm Gerard. Sorry, I don't read a lot, but I love writing and the characters that stir in my mind all seem to come alive at 3am when I'm pearched in my writers 'hovel', normally in a tiny tent on the side of a mountain, in either New Zealand or Australia. Thirty years ago I watched the stroke of a red pen decimate my incomprehensible sentences as I tried to capture the adventures. My love for being out there in the mountains ‘do’in it’ has never been stronger. I write from the heart and these days I share those experiences. It is hard to believe I started my working life as an accountant because I don’t have many credits in the bank. I have been spending those funds as quickly as they come in, my entire life, but I have accumulated a mind full of amazing savings. I work very hard as I know this provides me with the funds to go hunting at any opportunity. Hunting is my excuse to get out there into the back blocks of the South Pacific. Writing my own series about those adventures is a dream come true.
There is hardly a place in New Zealand where I haven't tramped or slept under a log. Aussie has seen my boot marks and my camera does most of the aiming these days.
My first book made me smile because it was my aim to do this by the time I was 50. Selfpublishing of my own printed version, ecommerce website setup and eBook versions all a challenge, but I love the technology we have at our finger tips...
