Michelle O'flynn (shelleyof) | 15 comments Oh Bronwyn...doesn't it make you sad for these people who don't realise what they're missing? I have never been much of a domestic except I did love cooking until I had to get the dinner on the table for a family - and fast! Now, I enjoy making things for special occasions, even if it is just a weekly dinner when the eldest daughter and her boyfriend come here. But the cleaning! UGH! I was house proud when my girls were babes, but it went out the window once they started school! I have better things to do - and like I said, it will keep - it is very patient.

message 702: by [deleted user] (new)

hehehe!!..well as far as cooking goes, I rinse utensils as I have finished cooking with them & place into the dishwasher, then once we have finished eating it is only 2 plates, 2 forks & 2 knive to go into the dishwasher, waalaaa!!..no after dinner clean ups. (-:

message 703: by Neko (new)

Neko Sadly dishwashers can't clean up everything :( I've got certain knives and pots/pans that will never ever see the wrath of the washer....I can wish though. I'll wash everything in the morning after..Having no job has that 'perk'..erugh..lol :/

message 704: by BlueSky (new)

BlueSky Surely the perfect male cleans the toilet??? O.o

message 705: by BlueSky (new)

BlueSky LOL! My theory is, most men could identify a toilet brush and bathroom cleaner ... but would not be able to demonstrate their uses! :) (Uh-oh i'm in trouble now aren't I)

message 706: by [deleted user] (new)

I am the only one who cleans the toilets at work, at home we share, when I was a kid & 'hunter bros' went on strike, my brother & I would wait a couple of days, grab dad's shovel, then go to the neighbors & neighbors, neighbors, & for $2 we would dig a hole behind the old thunderbox & 3/4 empty their tin, so what's a few rubs on a porceline bowl?

Eh! Carmel, I'm far from perfect, can be a cranky old Bstd. excuse my spelling all!

Hilarious Laura! I'm surprised it hasn't caught on in Australia. There are lots of ocker Aussie guys who love to cook stuff on the barbie and this recipe is right up their alley!:D

message 712: by [deleted user] (new)

Mmmm...starting to get nervous, I'm one of the headliners at our local 'Carols by Candelight' I'm reading 2 Aussie Christmas poems this Sunday evening.

On another note, has anyone noticed the link I pasted in the Aussie Authors Spotlight section, it is for my 2 winning short story/memoirs, 1 a 2nd place & the other a commended place.

message 713: by [deleted user] (new)

If you google 'recipe for Aussie drunken chicken' there are heaps of variants available. (-:

message 714: by Neko (new)

Neko ^Ah yes...I shoulda put Aussie in front..oops..Man..It's just early in the morning and I've no coffee in the house >:(

Hahaha!!..I don't have a foot fetish, but, now it looks like I know someone who does LOL!!!

message 716: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Laura, I always get so nervous before I have to perform.

message 717: by [deleted user] (new)

Well....manpower asked me to go to Brissy with them, but, I had to turn them down, I've other pressing engagements. LOL!LOL!LOL!

message 718: by [deleted user] (new)

Carmel, if you go here 'topic: Aussie Authors Spotlight > What goes in this Folder - please read first' you can view a snippet of what has happened to me in the almost 4 years I have been writing. (-:

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments Miss a few days here and miss lots of new interesting people. Welcome all, especially David who's welcome at my house any time lol. Actually I'm pretty much the same with housework - bit at a time and every day but I do live by the motto that no one, on their death bed, says 'I wish I had dusted more'.

Mind you when I'm 'in the zone' with my writing I think the whole house could fall down and I'm not sure I'd notice. Probably not a good thing :)

message 720: by Neko (new)

Neko David wrote: "Thanks Laura, I always get so nervous before I have to perform."
Oh man..that just sounds dirty..lol XDD

I've done some very small time acting and really never found imagining everyone naked to work..lol

message 721: by [deleted user] (new)

Hehehehe!!...Laura, thats what happens when one 'cuts off' ones sentence.

When I am reading (or the rare recital) I make sure I am wearing my reading glasses, because then the audience is a 'blur' so then I can look anywhere in the audience & not be distracted by the emotions in their faces.

I've heard all the ways to overcome nervousness, but one must get into ones brain, 'just get up there & do it'

message 722: by Neko (new)

Neko Or have a few beers like when you are cleaning ;) lol

message 723: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm sure there is a big difference between us not liking dusting & that tv show, are those people are absolute pigs and have more issues than not picking up a cloth to dust...Those houses should just be burnt to the ground & started again because after seeing the state of some of them it makes me wonder how people can live in such filth.

Do you think they are really like that or have they been dirtied for the show ... and why would these people want to go on the show to start with?

message 726: by [deleted user] (new)

A lot of people want their two minutes of fame however it is achieved. I have watched a couple of times. They make housework seem effortless... if only!!!

message 727: by [deleted user] (new)

G'day Dee-Anne, 25 years as a removalist I have had a couple of jobs where I rang the boss & refused to do the move & 1 was a RAAF dog handler, yes unfortunately there are poeple who live worse than pigs.

message 730: by Leanne (new)

Leanne (leanne83) Hi Everyone!

My name is Leanne, I live in Brisbane and this is the first group I have joined. I only discovered Goodreads a couple of months ago, I wish I found it sooner...

I try to read a wide variety of books - classics, modern literature, biographies, horror, philosophy and some poetry.

I have quite a few favourite authors, but my absolute favourite is Virginia Woolf, it's amazing what she could do with the English language.

It's great to see that there's so many Aussies using Goodreads!

message 731: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome to the group Leanne, great to have you join us.

message 732: by Amber (new)

Amber (ambermay_5) | 48 comments Dee-Ann, I really do think that some people are that filthy. As Gail said some will do anything for two minutes of fame, myself I would be too embarrassed to show my face if my house was that dirty, but it takes all kinds to make the world go round :)

message 733: by Michelle (new)

Michelle O'flynn (shelleyof) | 15 comments Just want to make some things clear...my comments about the housework being patient and still there waiting for me while I read my books, and my hatred of dusting, I certainly did not mean to imply that our house looks like any of these mentioned in the threads above.LOL! My place may be a bit dusty from time to time, and a bit untidy, but it is not a pit like some of those shown on those shows. Just to let you know....heh heh! I might read a lot, but not so much that you have to step over piles of rubbish in the house or even piles of books...although I have two bags on the go for the library...those I have just borrowed, and those I am about to return, while I go and pick up those I have requested online! LOOOOVE my library!

Michelle, first off LOL, I hope my comments didn't make you think that... my house definitely isn't spotless, I leave things laying around all week because I work full time and I normally do a big clean on saturday morning, but there is a big difference of not doing one job until you can't stand to look at the dust to someone not cleaning their house at all...Reading is definitely are great hobby & a way to relax, so if my house isn't up standard for some people I'm not worried as long as I've done my quota to keep myself happy, who cares what other people think. :)

message 735: by Michelle (new)

Michelle O'flynn (shelleyof) | 15 comments Couldn't agree more...and no I didn't take it that way from you...just a little surprised how an offhand comment about using reading as an escuse/escape from the drudgery and look where the conversatine went. It's a laugh eh?

message 736: by [deleted user] (new)

Conversations often run off on to all sorts of different tangents. I will however have to *bump* this one to another thread as we don't really want to scare off any newbie’s who want to introduce themselves.

Here would be a good spot. :)

Gerry Huntman (gezza) | 75 comments Not a biggie, and the last thing I want to do is stifle social stuff (God knows there are sites that are like Tombstone). Having said that, a bit of an effort to find the newbies through the gigantic thread. Oops, forgot the bold. Peter Piper..., there, got it out.

Maybe start a 'Brisbane' thread, instead of just a Q'ld thread!
