Thanks for the welcome. Wow! I've been looking at all the posts in this group. You guys are very active and organised - I like it.

I am just a little obsessed by books! ( and movies) I usually read about 1 a week. I don't have a favorite genre, I like to read all types, as long as they are GOOD! and try to read critically praised... often I am a little disappointed by these.
I generally don't like anything too mainstream. I have favorite books, not really favorite authors, my all time favorite is "Animal Farm" by George Orwell.

Fab. Dree, yes reading is great isn't it? I can't live a day without words. Welcome.

Welcome from another reader in country NSW. The only trouble with Goodreads is that your mental library shelves keep filling up with other people's recommendations. But it's a pleasurable kind of collection.

I'm new to the group. My name is Tracy I'm an avid reader and an author of epic fantasy (I've posted about that in the appropriate thread ;-) ) I love reading fantasy - epic, urban, parano..."

Haha...there's nothing mental about our library shelves Pat, except maybe their reality...some of us just can't say no to a good book and have to get them, so our tbr shelves are growing at alarmingly happy rates ;D

Hi Suzanne, Thanks for the warm welcome. Sorry for the delay in replying.

I'm an Adelaide girl who has lived in the UK since 1996. Now that I'm over 40 and currently have two gorgeous children (3.5 years and 11 months), we are finally moving permanently back to Adelaide as I couldn't think of a better place for my children to grow up.
But, I am going to have to get used to how things work back in Oz - I was asking Sally where is the best place to buy books? I am so used to Amazon.co.uk where I can order a book and get it the next day, as well as the plethora of charity shops here, that I really hope I can find some equivalent.
We're moving on the 5th October 2015, so the countdown is on...one way tickets booked, rental house organised, Ethan is enrolled to start in pre-school for the 4th term. Now all I have to do is get my 2000 odd books packed up and into a shipping container and we'll be off...

There are also charity shops and other second hand book shops, school fairs, church sales etc, etc etc. Second hand books are pretty easy to find. I am always looking to get rid of a whole heap (because my shelves got full so quickly). Public libraries are average. I am sometimes surprised by what ISN'T available. I am sure their range used to be a lot better once upon a time. Get friends who have good taste in books and read all theirs (I have started saving money by trying that technique)
New books are expensive but I do have a bit of a book-buying addiction. It can be fun. Good luck

Welcome Nancy:) Lovely to have you with us. Safe travels and good luck with everything. I agree, Australia would have to be the best place to raise children :)

Hi NancyHelen, welcome to the group and hope all goes well with your move back to Oz.

Welcome, Nancy, and enjoy the move - if it's possible. :) You have all of us to look forward to chatting with here.

I am trying to get hold of an iPad at the moment so I can read all the eBooks I have accumulated without resting my laptop on my knee!
Counting down the days to spring as I am not enjoying the cold weather right now!
Cheers
Grace

Welcome Grace, this is a lovely group of readers. :)

iPads are great. I have a mini for reading on my train commute to work. Saves having to lug books around in my bag and I can check on GR and email at the same time :)
