Jenni Ogden (jenniogden) | 8 comments Kia ora! Yes I'm a Kiwi, but I also love Australia, and spend about 4 months at our place at Trinity Beach, north of Cairns every winter. I am an avid reader of a wide range of books although perhaps I love "accessible literary fiction" or "upmarket women's fiction" best (these labels...). An Aust edition of my non-fiction trade book "Trouble in Mind: Stories from a neuropsychologist's casebook" was published by Scribe, Melbourne in 2013. (Think Oliver Sacks' "Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat"). I am a "retired" ?re-tyred?) neuropsychologist, write a blog post for Psychology Today, and live off-grid on Great Barrier Island, NZ where I spend a LOT of time writing (and reading) novels! My debut novel is to be published by She Writes Press in April 2016 and is set on the Great Barrier Reef (where I once was a turtle tagger).

Sally906 | 89 comments Welcome Jenni - lovely to have you here - we have a few Kiwi's in the group so you won't be lonely.

Feel free to browse through our threads and join in the chatting

With author book promotions we like to have them all in one spot so please create your own thread in the Author spotlight section https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... (in the top right hand corner you will see "new topic" click on it and you can promote your stuff to your hearts content - LOL)

message 6316: by Lainie (new)

Lainie | 2 comments Hi, my name is Lainie (real name, Alaine, the French version of Elaine, as my teenage Great-Grandfather was with the French Merchant Navy and jumped ship in Melbourne in 1857 to join the gold search!). I live in country Victoria.

I’ve always been a reader and used to read until all hours of the morning but now I’m lucky to read two or three pages and I get sleepy! Sometimes I wake up with the light still on and the book on the floor; I’m sure some could relate to that!

I love mysteries, thrillers, autobiographies and biographies.

Jenn J McLeod (jennjmcleod) | 24 comments Hellooooo Kerrie, and hello to everyone I've missed saying hello to! I am not good at keeping on top of Goodreads AND writing deadlines. But I do read the discussions and am quite envious of those with so much reading time.

message 6326: by Ace (new)

Ace Varkey | 7 comments Hi there,

Suzanne invited me to join the group so here I am. My mom says I talked before I walked, but that once I started reading, there was less of both because I was always curled up with a book. I used to drive my dad insane because I would read four books at a time and leave them all over the house (yes, even the bathroom). I look forward to getting to know everyone.

message 6332: by Ace (new)

Ace Varkey | 7 comments If I'm the second Ace, may I be the Ace of Hearts? I'm not crazy about spades or clubs and since diamonds used to be a hunk of coal, need I say more about them?

You do that - you'll be welcome.

Do you want to change your name to Ace of Hearts as you suggested? so we know which Ace we are talking to? I agree about diamonds - so cold and just an ex lump of coal :)

Ah ha! A few of us have met too, have a look at the photos thread. It's nice as we all get to see, and vicariously get to experience.

Ben Stevens (bsevens1989) | 2 comments Hi guys,

this ain't much of an intro, but I never meant it to be.
Anyhoo, my name's Ben and I live in central Victoria. I joined the group because I'm involved in a very small book club wherein I'm the solitary member. And, well, talking to yourself doesn't make for very stimulating conversation

message 6345: by Chris (new)

Chris Miles (cruisingcricketer) | 44 comments Hi all. I am Chris, a teacher of Accounting and Religion in the Catholic system in Adelaide. I have a huge love of books, particularly legal fiction, crime fiction, books with moral messages (such as Jodi Piccoult's) and those on social justice issues.

I currently have about 700 books in the house waiting for me to read them... and yet still can't resist buying more from charity bookshops such as the Lion's, St. Vinnies, the Salvos etc.

I think I will have to either make a deal with 'the man (or woman) upstairs to be able to take my books with me to the next life as I have too many to read in this one! *grins*

The saddest quote I ever read re books was one on an Oxfam website that stated 'if we read one book a week from the age of 5 until the age of 70, we read 3,380 books... nowhere near enough!!

I am currently reading 'Little Women of Baghlan' by Sue Fox, which I was very fortunate to win a copy of on this site.

Thank you Sue
