Haven't read it Billie, will look out for it

message 5557: by Ashlee (new)

Ashlee Hi everyone, I'm Ashlee (or Ash as most people call me!) - I joined this group the other day under my magazine name TAT Books, but as that is a business profile with a few of us running it I decided I want to join for myself so I can participate in discussions and challenges etc.

I'm from Melbourne and am studying Literature and Composition, so needless to say I LOVE BOOKS!!

I'm in a few other book clubs but they're all based in the States, so I'm looking forward to doing some quarterly challenges that actually correspond to our seasons! :)

Yep, that was actually the challenge I was referring to!! In one of my other groups I'm doing a "Fall" challenge - still fun, but I'm looking forward to getting stuck into the Spring Challenge as well!

Welcome Ash - nice to talk to the person instead of the magazine - mind you it's nice to say I'm chatting to a magazine and no one thinks I'm mad :)

Cherie (crobins0) Hi All,
I didn't see anything that said I have to be living in Australia to be part of your group here. I found the group name and noticed that I have a few friends here. :)

My name is Cherie. I live in the Pacific Northwest corner of the USA, about 20 miles from Portland, Oregon. I have been reading books set in Australia all year and I have a huge list of books compiled TBR on my Australia shelf, here on GR. I have a map of Australia on my wall in my den to look up locations.
I wish I could visit someday, but that remains to be seen. If I can't do it physically, then I can certainly do it via books and getting to know the current and past inhabitants. I don't know how active I will be, but I thought I should "check in".

message 5575: by Margaret (new)

Margaret | 17 comments Hi! I just joined this group and look forward to making new friends and finding new authors and books to read.

After living in the USA for 3 years it is so good to be back home. I live in Adelaide.

But, I have had a tough time adjusting to being back. Books are cheap and plentiful in the USA. I visited a couple of bookstores (my preferred method of buying books) since I have been back and have had a shock at (a) the lack of range, and (b) the price!!! I use the library quite a bit too and I think that will probably now rank as my top book stop.

I am also a reading challenge junkie, and so look forward to checking out the challenges in this group. Like Ash, I am a member of quite a few Goodreads groups based in the Northern Hemisphere and didn't think about the difference in seasons until I went to sign up for a Fall challenge and thought to myself that I really should be thinking about Spring :)

Happy reading!!
Margaret

Margaret | 17 comments Thanks for all the welcomes!!! And yes, I will definitely be joining in the challenges. I just need to get through this month's lot ... I kind of overestimated the amount of reading I would get done in September, and I am still finishing off those challenges .... I have serious problem :)

Welcome Margaret :) I totally understand your book issue, I totally agree with you re. cost. I usually borrow and mostly buy only second hand. It probably really is the reason I'm not a buyer of new books. It will be an adjustment for you, but you'll find from many of the Aussie Readers that online is the way to go. I haven't don't this much as if I can't do something quick I don't do it, but it works for many of them. Welcome back to Aus!

Mary (bookworm60) | 367 comments Hi all. I'm Mary from Newcastle. I haven't joined an online book group before so I'm looking forward to a new experience. Any opportunity to discuss books is wonderful. I'm not clear on what the spring challenge is but i figure I'd be unlikely to manage it at this stage (although I'm book addicted) right?

A.J. Sendall (ajsendall) | 5 comments Hi All,
I was very pleased to find a group of Aussies in here, and look forward to making a few friends and discovering new Aussie authors.
Full disclosure: I wasn't born in Australia, but when I first washed ashore in Port Jackson in 1990, I knew I was home. After spending a decade in Sydney, I moved up to Tamborine Mountain in SEQ.
I'm an avid reader, and an Author. I have so far written three novels, and just published the first entitled Heather, which is set mainly in Kings Cross.
Good to be here
AJ
